Did you try repairing windows before?
Is it a notebook or desktop?
How old is the hard disk? Have you tried it with another hard disk? hmm.gif

Its my 4 year old desktop together with hard drive 4 year old also.
No important files on C drive but got some family photo on partition drive on the same hard drive.

I have tried recall the image files (Backup partition) & tried reinstall XP not successed.
The reinstallation just cannot reach the format hard disk place.

I have no spare hard drive to confirm.

ok, recently fixed a friend's cpu, his condition were similar to yours, cannot boot to windows, cannot repair or format, got stuck halfway during windows installation you (know the 39 minutes), what i did was..... take out the HD and plug it in to my computer using an IDE to USB cable converter, go to regedit type cmd, after you typed that........... the command prompt will appear, in the command prompt type chkdsk g:/r.....see what drive letter appear on your cpu la, not necessary g:. Took a while for it to finish, then i plug it in to my friend's cpu and....VOILA can format already, the status showed (after the scan) 4kb in bad sector, maybe that's what is causing the problem, or you can use a software called Partition magic and disabling the first few GB from your HD, with this method you can use your HD for a few months more, heard that Bad Sector in hd will spread hmm.gif DUnno la hmm.gif
If you did all that and the HD still cannot work, consider buying a new one, cause HD price already drop.....and be careful about the pins on your HD, don't bend them, if it's Seagate brand try sending it for warranty coz got 5 years warranty

i have encounter the same problem yesterday,,,
what i do is :
1 - disconnect the hardisk from the cpu
2 - try to make your hardisk as a slave to a friend pc, just make it as an external hardisk,,,
3 - connect the serial cable and gives ur hardisk a power supply
4 - gives it a scan

my pc goes well after that,,,
the cause maybe because u didn't shutdown ur pc properly,,,
try it out,,,
hopes it will ok after that,,,
try k,,,

Take a look at our motherboard's capacitors, the top of the capacitors, if it's "bengkak" then it's time to change your motherboard

I dont think it is mobo prob. But try check the SATA connection. I online 18 hours a day on cheap Biostar mobo for 3 years and it still ok. It is still nice although some it has some prob on boot.

If the capacitor "bengkak", can still replace the cap. No need to buy new mobo so fast.
