For those people who want to move or start a new character, THAURISSAN is the new recommended realm for Malaysians.

Is it good for raiding?
There were originally many Asian guilds that progressed into Sunwell in Thaurissan, and now coming expansion a few more SG/MY/AUS T6 quality guilds will transfer there as well. Assuming no pre-patch guild implosions and including guilds that will transfer there, there would be at least six GMT+8 raiding guilds.

What about casuals?
There will also be several casual 10man raiding guilds that are Oceanic. As opposed to old school NA servers, Orgrimmar and Ironforge are generally bustling around local Malaysian evening. The raiding pool is better for recruitment. Getting groups for 5mans or farm-status raids (e.g. Gruul) is generally easier for people after school and work.

Are you poaching me? I'm happy with my current server!
This post is just for people who need a home. If you are doing good with your current server and guild, stay there. whistling.gif

Are you sure Thaurissan is the place to go?
Currently, it is where our communities are transferring to. It has the most visible and substantial community of regional people. Of course no one can predict what will happen in the distant future, guilds will come and go. Also, there will always be many other realms under the radar that have pockets of Asians. Finally, your niche will vary depending on your lifestyle.

How is the latency?
As of early September 2008, with my friends and I using Streamyx with decent IPs, latency will vary between 300 to 450. Tunneling services like Gamepath or Lowerping may reduce that further by 50 to 100.

How are the Battlegrounds?
As of September 2008, Horde queues for AV were around 10mins. It is below average for a battlegroup faction, so it is not the best if you like to BG a lot. However, things will likely improve in next expansion.

How about Alliance?
Alliance is smaller in number compared to Horde, but have generally better PVE and PVP progression with respect to population pool.

Thaurissan used to have insane Horde to Alliance ratios, whereby Horde numbers were so overwhelming that Alliance toons had trouble questing and doing dailies. When Blizzard started free PVE->PVP transfers, Thaurissan Alliance was one of the main beneficiaries. Several top end Alliance guilds transferred that and carved their niche. SG/MY guild <Ghost> was the top raiding guild in Gorgonnash, and they recently moved to Thaurissan for better raiding pool.

Why are you posting this?
People always keep asking which server to go in these forums, and the stickies are too scattershot and outdated. Choosing a new realm can be a confusing process for people, so this post is meant to give a specific choice. I have no agenda against/for Thaurissan except for good friends who recently moved there.

Slightly off-topic but I just want to add that server choice is pretty important.

I have played on Tichondrius, Kalecgos, Darkspear and now Frostmourne.

Darkspear ganking is one of the WORST I've seen. It's simply unprecedented and lead me to quit playing for a while when level 70s would camp level 30s-40s just for the heck of it. And not just one or two times but for more than an hour!

I've never experienced such high level of crap sad.gif and my friend in Darkspear agrees that it becomes a vicious cycle where the newly inducted 70s would then do the same to their newbie opponents sad.gif.

And yes this will illicit, WELL THIS IS PVP tongue.gif. Perhaps, perhaps but I think PvP is also about skill tongue.gif not one shotting people.

People moved to Thau cos of the free PvE-->PvP transfer a few months back =) Top 5 Alliance guilds from Nagrand (my realm) all moved and one of them got KJ down already, so it's not like they move cos it's better. Yeah, the Horde population on Thau is way more than Alliance.

Also, there's no such thing as "better" realms =) Thau was dead before the transfers opened.

All teh Asia-Pacific guilds are slowly leaving Gorgonnash (once the premier server for our region) for Thaurissan =/

First was Unholy Evangelist (now Unholy), then Band of Hawks, then Eternity (Alliance) and now Amitofo...

Should also note down that with a high concentration of Asians, you'll have a buttload of emokids and dramaqueens during peak times.

I've had some rerollers in my guild who were from Thaurissan who wanted to escape from that kind of crap that 'typical malaysians' seem to endlessly generate.

EDIT: Include Aussie kids in there too... smile.gif

DOUBLE EDIT: I once had 3 aussie teen raiders in my guild - both went over to the 3rd's house for overnite wow raiding. One threw a hissy fit like a lil emo girl and refused to join raid cause I brought 2 into the raid and benched the 3rd. Shown the gkick door before he even knew what hit him. Glad I dont have to see shit like that these days. Good times... smile.gif

It's the side effect if you want more people to do raids/pvp with during your leisure hours unsure.gif

If you go to a more quiet server, you absolutely NEED to have a stable set of friends will do heroics/PVP/raids with you at most times. If you just go to a quiet population and you don't have a lot friends or an active guild, you're pretty much screwed. I know some people like those, they "left the drama" to a quiet realm, only to be struggling to LFG for heroics and spend more of the free time AFKing in AV. That's far worse.

agreed - tats where as a person applying for the guild, you have to really check to ensure the guild can sustain its guildies in terms of those needs you mentioned. Its either that, or if the realm itself can meet those needs (maybe 2-3 asia/oceanic guilds on a US server)

There are a lot of MY/SG people on Alliance side as well, including super hardcore GHOST and Steamboat.

But whether they post in these forums, I dunno rclxub.gif

Added on November 9, 2008, 10:08 amFor hardcore malaysian raiders, there are 5 horde guilds and 3 alliance guilds that raid our time in Thaurissan and will push WOTLK content in coming weeks.

Very high chance that most will see Arthas at the endgame.
