During the early 90's, Malaysia was filled with small shops of arcade centers. I had great fun with those coin munchers, and it has always been a dream to have a cabinet at home. The dream is still there for me, but what about you guys? Share us your arcade stories, and even share with us stories of the arcades that you might have at home. It would be amazing to know one of the LYN forummers owns a standing Street Fighter 3 cabinet (And don't forget to ajak me to play with. ) or even playing Initial D at the comfort of your own home. Personal Fave, King of Fighter 98.

How to arcade at home? 3 choices (excluding emulation): 1) Real arcade cabinet 2) Consolized mobo (mother board), like MVS and Atomiswave (like one I'm selling in my sales thread) 3) Get a supergun that's JAMMA compatible like found here http://www.mak-jp.com/ctrbox.htmlMore info on mobos and games can be found here http://www.system16.com, click on the museum column on the left hand side. The first one is a real arcade panel for Sega Blast City, meaning using original Seimitsu's parts. The second one is called Sigma Raijin, the most popular choice among those who can't find space for an arcade at home, uses Sanwa's parts if I'm not mistaken. Third one is called Sigma AV7000, the controller is Sigma9000TB, and the last one is mahjong controller, all Sanwa's. Really nice but a bit more expensive than Raijin. All of them are factory made, not home made like those MAK(German) superguns. Sega Blast Panel Sigma Raijin Sigma AV7000 + 9000TB Mahjong controller MAK supergun MAK mini gun (uses Neo Geo controller layout) Japanese superguns are more difficult to find as they don't ship their products overseas. I'm planning to get one soon when I have the money. This post has been edited by gundamalpha: Oct 13 2008, 12:12 PM

Gundam, I'm pretty sure you know that you can make your own Supergun right? With that said, I want TGM2/3 at home, and maybe even HOTD4

based on my observations, there's 2 types for Sega's arcade. 1 is the large one, with the Sega Astro City horizontal type supergun. And the other one would be the head to head display. This makes me feel that I should run to Sogo and get the Tekken 6 cabinet shown to the world. I think it still uses the old Sega Astro City horizontal type. Before this, I thought the whole thing was attached together and the cabinet itself would've been too huge.

If everything have to import might as well just get a finished one overseas.

How is it that the technicians at the arcades know how to build... That really intrigues me.

Actually it's not as difficult as it sounds. Go to gamesx.com and search for how arcade operates. It's just like connecting a console to a TV, but mobo instead console, JAMMA instead A/V cable, and monitor instead of TV. And while you are at it, learn something about RGB there please, it's very important term for gaming.

I checked on the RGB part, and seems to me that the monitor sounds to be the hardest part to obtain. But then again, i'm saying that based on how I haven't really found anything more yet about arcades that can be done at home.

I do know some sources to get a cabinet there you know? Not too expensive either, cheaper than supergun I would say if you pick it up yourself.

Getting Started

|
hmm,i've been trying to do a project to make a homemade arcade cabinet for a simple game that can be run on mame, for example street fighter,or metal slug,or king of fighters.
1.Get an old computer that can flawlessly play the game of your choice on mame. 2.Get an arcade stick(if you get one for like say PS2,you need the usb converter) 3.Get another arcade stick(unless it's only going to be one guy playing and the other staring at you) 4.Get a keypad 5.Get wood and form a cabinet with places to put your arcade sticks and computer and monitor 6.Put keypad in position where if you drop the coin in the slot it will hit the button, activating the coin insert button and it will roll of and go into a bag that you will collect by the end of the day 7.Have the game start up at boot by editing registry 8.Set the controls 9.??? 10.Profit!!!
I'd do that, but i'm lazy. the same would work for ddr(stepmania) or beatmania(rhythm it or o2mania),it's just more expensive.
yes,i also know this is a form of piracy.just remember that my stand is that it's okay as long as you actually own the game. for example,i own ddr extreme on the ps2 and have all the songs on stepmania.

Other than piracy, you'd also have to compromise on the quality (image, sound and speed) to run this set up. It has been done, but it proved not as popular as the real thing.

Hurm, i'm abit amazed on what hardware is the TKA at Sogo using for Tekken 6. Reading Namco's hard, it says that it ran at USD30k sumthing. but I noe the hardware is equipped with the Sega Blast City type joystick.

Can put any kind of joystick on to the arcade cabinet, just need to do some wiring. But Sega's layout still the best in my book. Gals Panic? Quite addictive game

i miss Scud Race.
anyone played that before?
used to go to intencity in 1 Utama just to play it.
the number one reason i want it: the seat moves as you play the game. unlike sega rally(or was it daytona?) which only rumbles, this one actually moves to simulate driving an actual car.
this and one helicopter game which i cant remember the name.. it had 2 big guns, which were basically chain guns in game, and didnt require reloads. just simply shoot your way thru the game. the vibration the guns gave out was EPIC!
