Hi guys,

I'm currently looking around for an electric guitar to get, my budget is about RM2-2.5k. I play mostly classic rock and metal, and occasionally some bluesy numbers. A versatile instrument would be good, but if its more suited to a particular style, that would be perfectly fine.

As for my criteria, thin necks preferred, and no tremolo.

I've tested only 3 guitars so far (LTD FX-260SM, MH-250QMNT, Epiphone LP Custom) and I quite liked them (however, I've read alot of rather negative opinions regarding 400-series below LTDs as being not 'worth the money'...), although the neck of the LP Custom was not to my liking.

I'd love to hear any suggestions you guys might have!

Thanks in advance everybody. smile.gif

If u buy LTD from the guitars stores, yes they are quite overpriced..
Have u tried the ibanez RGs or S series? Should suit some of your style preference, and on top of that, ibanez got thin necks.

You mean The Jackson DKMGT...... That's the string thru version.
Yeah. Jacksons are EXCELLENT guitars as well, but that guitar could be over your budget.

Yeah, I did look into certain fixed bridge RGs (the one Blacktrix suggested) and one S model (670FM, but it had a bridge... just looked tempting tongue.gif)

Thanks! I'm checking them out now. Are you sure the Prophecy fits my budget? Considering its specs I would expect it to be priced quite higher... smile.gif

Thanks again everyone, I appreciate the help!

EDIT: Does anyone know if there are guitar stores here that carry the fixed bridge Epi Goth Explorer?

Thought I see an Epi Goth explorer before in one music store in MidValley. Anyway I was going to recommend a DK2M (about 2.5k..I really like it) until I see you didn't favor trem.

Wait, a DKMG cost that much more than a DK2M? And we still can get the SZ520 brand new here?

Also, when you say the neck of the LP was not your liking, what do you mean? Too thick?

If it's too thick, try looking out for a 60s neck profile LP Standard. Sound great, VERY customizable and sounds exceptionally good.

Rhapsody? I was there before the Raya holidays and I don't think they were any Explorers. sad.gif

DK2M looks tempting as well... now I'm thinking if I should just get one with a trem! Haha.

Yup, it was a bit too thick. I'll keep an eye out for those. smile.gif

You want finished or unfinished necks?

Lacquer coated necks not so comfortable to slide.
Pure maple unfinished necks very nice to slide.
LP necks blocks your thumb from reaching higher frets.

You can get other brands with slightly modified cuts that allows better access without a double cut design.
Maybe you can consider samick/gregbennett AV6 or AV7 for the price you're paying.

I do like the smoother feel of finished necks.

I'm not really a fan of the Avion's body shape. sad.gif

Another option are also the LTD Eclipse.
Some say they arn't worth it, but I find them excellent guitars as well.

Added on October 13, 2008, 7:46 pmThis one looks awesome and should fit within your price range.

LTD EC-200QM. Quite rare for a 24-fret LP shape around that price range.

Yeah. Read about it in the guitar hero magazine. Looks to me like a renamed Epiphone Prophecy Futura Custom FX.

I still wished the route a little bit of the back so you can pull up on the whammy.
