you should have just went for vista when you were buying your new laptop  doh.gif  . dont know why you choose to go with xp and then to an upgrade now  sweat.gif lol

anyways, yes you need to purchase it if you still want to upgrade  nod.gif
*
because the package come with xp.not vista.
some more im not buy online at dell website, coz damn expensive there.
that time my priority is extreme proc and 8800gtx gc.
so,i just bought the laptop with xp..all in that package oni.huhu

kinda wasted if u do not utilize DX10 features of your powerful card smile.gif and your laptop could run Vista just fine

and if u are looking for cheaper alternative, i suggest that u look here:

nice laptop u got bro  smile.gif
i believe u can run vista very well.
i think the easiest and simple way,go n buy a new original vista.
btw why do u need vista ultimate?
*
because i think ultimate got more function where the user can get..
thx for the compliment. smile.gif

ask your frens who are studying in those universities? but note that that is an upgrade version, which upgrades your XP to Vista, can't be used for full installation
or just spend RM699 for a new Vista retail which can be found in Garage Sales
outside selling the same thing for RM1599
*
ouh ic..32bit and 64bit same price ?
heard 64bit more stable and faster.
thx in advance.

i’m quite surprised that your M1730 came with XP Pro.

because you bought not from Dell, is the Windows sticker (product key) stated Windows XP Professional?
just for confirmation.

XP is better for game but overall Vista is better.

upgrade your RAM to 4GB and install 64-bit Vista nod.gif
*
yup,its windows XP pro..
yeah, coz rite now i play crysis warhead using enthusiast setting a bit lag, because not enough ram.. sweat.gif

not sure about the upgrade version but the retail full version comes with both 32 and 64-bit
i am using x64 now but i do not feel much difference from my bro's x32
even if it's faster, i think it's because of my 4GB RAM compared to his 2GB
*
ouh..other than the speed,i do some research on vista 64 user,
overall claim that 64 more stable than 32..is it correct bro ?

oh, really. i’m asking about the Vista sticker because if you want to buy M1730 with XP via Dell online,
it will come with both 32-bit Vista + 32-bit XP

there is possibility that your seller didn’t give you the 32-bit Vista DVD hmm.gif

if you have the Vista sticker (any versions), you can ask Dell to send you 64-bit Vista DVD for free.

the other way to check whether your M1730 comes with Vista is to use your Dell Service Tag and check your original system configuration at Dell website.
if Vista DVD listed in your system, you can also ask Dell to send you Vista 64-bit DVD.
if this method a bit confusing, you can PM me your Service Tag and i will check it for you smile.gif
*
service tag ?
where i can get the service tag no ?
thx in advance.

With your specs (referring to siggy), you should already be using Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32-Bit when your ordered your Dell. This is because of your powerful graphics card.
*
im not order from dell.
but from other ppl.
there is no vista in that package.
as i explain b4,that time vista is not my top priority in buying this laptop.
and its quite hard for me to find this spec of laptop with very good price.
should i concern vista when i can pay below 9k instead of 14-16k(i just make a rough calculation because 1 forumer bought T9300 with 8700GT Sli for 12k) blush.gif

oem version just the operating system cd plus the product key. retail version normally come in one big box.
normally oem version come "only" with a new pc package. please check with your local computer shop personnel,
before buying. cos we are talking about original Windows here. hope this can help you a bit.

oem for win xp pro sp3 should be rm499.00. retail no idea, some say around rm1k.
oem for win xp home sp3 cheaper than pro.
*
oh i see..mean the OS free when u buy a laptop la..
but then, let say if they already reg their os with their name etc,
then can use it as well if i buy a used os ? reg, update etc...

Yes, I mean the Vista will look great on your laptop due to your high-performing graphics card. You bought the laptop from a forummer right? I think I saw his ad.
Did they ever produce XP SP3 discs? I thought they only produce XP SP2 and you can purchase -> install -> update to SP3?
*
yup from 1 forumer.
i think mine is sp2 when i check,
then update become sp3.
actually,i want to sell my xp pro.
but after i see lot of game cannot support vista,
i changed my mind to use dual boot..hurm..
