budget constraint = no quads. at least not around these times. maybe in the few years period when quad goes mainstream and duals get phased out

cpu still plays a fairly important role in recent games to process AI and what not. and not to mention the better the cpu, the less bottleneck the gpu has and it'll produce better performance by itself.

but thats an entirely different case as cpu you can always overclock, where else you cant really modify the number of cores a processor has on the fly.
so its up to an individual's needs/budget if hes gettin quads or duals

oh and i just recently got adobe photoshop CS4 running, and guess what, quad ultilization! + vista prefetch.... takes like around under 5 seconds (no shit) to load PS LOL
in some cases even "instant", as in, click PS, OH ITS OPENED LOL!

cuz it only ultilizes 20-50% cpu during load, which means should i run anything else in the mean time, it wont even affect it the slightest
in most cases after the first load, it becomes instant load too thanks to vista prefetch lol

Added on October 29, 2008, 4:31 pmeletric bills, one of the main factor that would help is a really good psu, that maximizes the energy it can produce from the power socket. atm the standard rate is around 85%++, in simple examples, your house gives 300w, you psu is only able to produce 85% of that 300w, and the 15% = waste.

(thats why i lol at people buying cap ayam, they save capital cost, but they waste a ton in the long run, worse if the thing blows up and drag some pc parts along with it LOL!)

then it would be the actual power consumption of the parts. AFAIK, the new intel wolfdales can run at really retarded voltages, like some 1.1v for stock speed or even lower depending on configuration/proc batch.

have to take note on how much power per part consumes then. there are websites that can help give you a rough estimate on power consumption.

swapping the psu to a "Green power" psu doesnt guarantee a power reduction, especially if its all marketing gimmick (ahoy power tak logic, or icomel, lower end sejuk tuan)

cuz normally if you calculate the normal usage of a fridge, turned on 24/7, per month itself, that fridge is already almost rm10 or even more than that, depending on ur fridge power consumption (nowdays new fridges got energy saving features and what not)

and thats, just a fridge, dont even need to get down to anything else LOL

personally id save more and/or and wait for the pricecut on wolfdale with nehalem release. and just get the cheapest wolfdales (E8xxx). the performance vs cost is just staggering lol. even more so if you OC. and even without OC, the stock temp/clockspeed/bus speed itself is damn good by itself.

ATI... its undeniable their HD 4 series have the best price vs performance ratio. but being a gamer/enthusiast, i tend to stick with nvidia's better driver support (theres a reason why games are having that nvidia "the way its meant to be played" logo call me an nvidia fanboy if you will, but thats how it is like it or not. you can also attribute the tight performance competition DESPITE its CLEAR that ATI cards in hardware ALONE is dominating the nvidia counterparts [based on raw specs from the documentations]) then again, you have a tight budget constraint, so the ATI's are a good choice no doubt.

other than that its all good.

haha np. i used to lurk hardware Q&A too...but later on it doesnt give post counts, and the people seeking help there has gone more and more, how should i put it, retarded? or easily put, "lazy". just expect people to spoonfeed them without doing anything themselves
