Hey guys, its been a while.
This information is flagged as
SOMEWHAT important lol.
Gaming in Malaysia is becoming an industry that depends highly on participation and numbers, where sponsors would generally come into events when there are a considerable amount of teams, players and response. With this said, i would like the cooperation from all teams, particularly in Call of Duty ™ 4 : Modern Warfare but not limited to that with the information below.
Malaysia has seen dominating teams before, much like FmJ in their period of dominance in Half Life™ : Counter-Strike 1.6, where they had over 16 of the 32/64 team limit from around Malaysia competiting in WCG, total dominance in numbers. Although it is basically a strategy of odds, dividing and conquering, it kills the game solely because new teams are either absorbed or just plain give up because of this. The number of comeptitive players thin within months and eventually hype dies down.
To ensure this does not happen to our games, i would like suggestions and also will be giving suggestions to improve and maintain Malaysia's growing gaming community. It is important that we take this seriously, in order for the big players to take us seriously.

Team Limitations
I believe there should be a limit to the number of teams per clan. This is, however based on your cooperation. I definitely cannot bar anyone from forming his 166th team, but i believe a clan's limit should be 4 separate teams. This allows them to basically train easier rather than have an odd number to begin with. It also allows teams to focus on their training and creating quality and not quantity in clans.
Again, there is no official limit to the amount of teams.
Sponsorships» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Smaller teams get sponsored easier, since there are less people to support as well. I hope the team leaders who read this get the picture. I've been the head of ESP and it gives me a headache controlling 19 other misfits, not including myself. But it is not impossible to get sponsors as well. The best way to do it, ofcourse, is by winning important events, such as WGT or overseas events.
Results often proves to be a good reference to sponsors, but it is also good to eventually ask nicely in the first place.
Also, about sponsors, you will find it hard to get a full sponsor in a 20 man team, even if you win tournaments. Unless your entire team does particularly well locally and overseas, most sponsors will not be interested in large scale teams. (unless those teams are from different games and they do well in each segment, much like MYM, f!natic and SK - Gaming)

For the betterment of the industry, participation of clans in events are important, however, not only as contestants. There are people working tirelessly behind the scenes pumping their hard earned money and effort into your games/events, but there is something you must give in return. There are times when they will need assistance particularly in running these events, but as participants you should also put yourselves in their shoes. (handle disputes maturely, respecting marshals etc etc)
Currently, there isnt any major problem with the teams here, but there might be in the future. Ultimately, these events usually cater to more than one community and for the health of the industry, it is best that they can blend. The higher the unique number of players, the more the prizes will generally be and with a larger number in these events the more likely there will be unsatisfied players.
To keep these games alive, behaviour towards non-players (particularly other games) during events or tournaments should be as cooperative as possible. This is to ensure the organizers do not have such a hard time with keeping things on time. (most setbacks are technical in gaming events, however there are times where players actually delay gameplay)
All in all, i'm actually extremely happy about how things are going in Malaysia and i hope they continue to improve for the gamers in the future. For people like me, i'll probably only have a year or 2 left before i eventually retire from competitive play, unlike the newbloods who are 16-20 mostly. There will be a day when we oldies will need to run the show for these guys, so its best to show a good example.
Anyway, as an announcement, [ESP] & [SWL] will be working on the website for the upcoming Amatuer League. You can register from there WGT style soon. Schedules will also be out soon!

Also, there are plans for [ESP] to get their own website and also a general website for the gaming community, particularly for updates and such. (mostly a portal to link gamers together, rather than attempting to plant ALL the malaysian gamers there and expect them to know the website >.<)
Updates will be soon, ladies!
Keep on Gunning,
Brian Chan
