10KM race rite? can la sure no problem u can break into the below the hour mark....looking at your training hillsprints , tempo should be ok i normally dont even do that...unless i force myself

as for spike's we can advice but ask yourself, where do you see yourself running often in future, more on the roads or the tracks? and sure as heck you cant be using spikes on treadmill..
*
Yeah, tht's the thing la. I'ma race on the track maybe a maximum of once or twice a year only, whereas the bulk of my races would be on the road la. Might as well buy myself new race shoes.

I'll go to the track this afternoon, c how it goes la. If not that much difference (& I'm betting tht'd be the case) & I can still run a decent race with my road shoes, I'll just stick to my current shoes la. BTW, I'll be running on the track at UKM.

another new pair of  running shoes for you! interesting UKM allows non-students to use their facilities, here in Penang the only track here is the USM tracks and that also strictly for students only...i tend to use if once in a while but often they'll ask if im a student. just give them a bs that im from the marine research faculty no point bringing badge during exercise

ah i see from your sig that you're running for the KOTR too...brows.gif

Well, my ministry rented the whole place out for this weekend for our sports carnival. & we have the track for ourselves for training since Monday. &.. I'm ex-UKM anyway.. tongue.gif

KOTR, yeah.. registered @ Gardens a couple weeks back. I'm focusing on 10K, but next year I'd like to do some half marathons as well...

I went to UKM to run on the track this afternoon. It rained briefly, but other than that it was okay, made fun with lotsa chicks around. I did half lap+half lap at my planned race pace, for like 3 laps, then it was 1 lap + 1 lap also at race pace, for 4 laps, then I finished with 9 laps. This is what I learned from my first time running on a synthetic track:

1. For long distance races, i.e. 5000m & 10,000m, it's okay to use Ur road shoes. Grip is not an issue when running long distances. At least for me la.
2. It's pretty hard to pace myself, unlike on the road, where U have uphills, downhills, flats, false flats. On the track of course it's flat all the way. So I have to really be careful on how I pace myself or else I'ma burn out to early.
3. I found it pretty hard to focus & to motivate myself, coz I was running in circles (obviously). Unlike road racing where U run from point A to point B.
4. It is possible to run a little bit faster that I normally do on the road, becoz of the flat surface. But then again, I've to be careful as there won't be any water station, so I really have to gauge when to pull away or pull back.

Well, hopefully I can do well this Sunday. rclxms.gif

nod.gif round and round you go ..mental strength laugh.gif
another thing.. when u say no issues with traction ..hv u tried a pair of spikes on the track? just experiment and see?
Mental strength, yeah. I hope I'll be strong enuff to follow the stronger runner, to the end. Actually my team does have spikes, those Eepro ones U can buy for RM69.90. But since it's like general sizing, they dun have one big enuff for me to use. I agree tht of course with spikes, U'll have more traction, definitely.

Anyway, I went to the Gardens yesterday to buy a vest (I always buy small2 things like that for a race, just to motivate myself), took the opportunity to check out some shoes. I saw the Mizuno Tempo LD, of course very, very light at less than 6 ounces. But still, I'd rather buy a new road racer that I can use a lot. & can U believe this : Mizuno Gardens dun have a single running vest, on display or in in stock. I had to go to Jusco to buy one.

hmm.gif  y specifically mizuno vest? part of ur collection? hehe
I feel nikes are way lighter..
Yeah, Nikes are a lot lighter, but more expensive as well. I bought the Mizunos for RM26.95 after 50% off. I run with Mizuno shoes, so I guess I just wanna keep the theme going. But I run with Nike shorts and cap though.. heheh

Finally I broke the hour during this morning's 10,000m event. It was really tough mentally & the fact that there were only 4 of us & the race started at almost 8:45 didn't really help. I tried to follow the winner, judging from his tshirts which had Powerbar & Ironman all over, I knew he was the favorite. & I only managed to follow him for 2 laps, in which he ran 1:30 & 1:40 laps. I knew I wasn't strong enuff to follow him all the way, my best lap time was like 2:00 ! He lapped my 5 times !! & as a consolation, I managed to lap the 3rd place winner twice. Overall I guess it was okay, I managed to achieve my initial goal in my first race on the track.

Now, on to the Siemens Race... rclxms.gif

Hi there, U can get Wave Rider 12 at Mizuno Gardens (or any World of Sports, or Jusco). I was at the Gardens last Thursday, I think Wave Rider is about RM300+ & there was a 10% discount.
