Heys,

do wet feet test asap laugh.gif our resident shoe pro ccube will help you then without a prb..

do consider nt landing on your heel at all even if it then slides gracefully, try to land on the mid foot (prevents injury to the hip and knee and helps u run faster)..

Size of the shoe in terms of 10, 10.5 me thinks is nt affected by foot width as proper shoes hv sizes nt oni for the length of the foot but oso for the width of the foot.. so e.g. you could still be a size 10 but a size 10 of either c,d or e width

If you like click here for a basic guide to measure both ur feet length and width to get an estimate of your shoe's size and width smile.gif

I just got from Davis, the Suunto T3C costs RM620, that's without the footpod & he said that the footpod is very expensive. He also didn't give the price for Polar RS200SD, saying that I shud forget about Polar at the moment.
*
wah so u bought it? tongue.gif

by the way i got to know Digital Life Mall in PJ sells Garmin Forerunner at RM 1750 nt sure if this includes HRM

305 at RM 1260 inc HRM + footpod RM 420

do you guys do any other training apart from running to strengthen your legs, thighs and core muscles? I really HATE doing core exercises but i do it coz it really helps my core muscles in my stomach from cramping up...legs and thigh ill do it but not as fervently as core workouts though

Tengster...Endurox r4 u getting RM 129? so cheap le, can PM me your contact to get the price ka? im running out of R4 and GNC with gold card im getting RM 150 icon_question.gif

hi all.. just wanna ask running in the morning / evenning / night is the best??

cuz old ppl advised cant take bath after sunset..

but night time is the best for me..

any advise or suggestions? sorry if i sounded noob
*
research say that running in the morning is the best as it taps into your fat levels more to feed on energy rather than carbs that you had for lunch if you run in the evening, for me personally i absolutely love running in the morning..early morning there some kind of weird mental calmness i get everytime i run...weekdays no choice la evening since work and all but its so humid! laugh.gif

so in the end it depends on you...try to run in the evening and in the morning trust me you'll know which one fits you best...

hee hee good to see the thread active tongue.gif

kaiying, if u r a beginner try to join the Runners Malaysia beginners group.  The ppl will guide you how to run the right way and also guide to how to increase ur mileage.  Dont go straight and run 10k if u hv not attempt it before.  Increase the distance gradually.  That way it will minimise or eliminate injury, and in a way build up ur endurance.

hey guys as promised my race report, its a bit long winded, but yeah hope its alrite this singapore trip was a holiday cum running trip for which i totally regretted during the marathon, probably shud just stick to one either holiday or just go there for the mara mixing both is like drinking beer+liquor together..not good, went together with 2 other running mate's of mine whom i met in LCCT before flying off to Singapore

Thursday 28th May

Reached Changi at 4 pm took MRT got down at AlJunied walked about 800m to hotel in Geylang tongue.gif
had a light snack in Geylang then went lepak around Orchard Road that nite, went for a quick workout in FF Paragon friend working there as FF Sales Manager so manager to workout for free...hehe
was pretty tired by 11.30 so called it a nite...

Friday 29th May

Woke up around 11am, took Clif Powerbar as breakfast, headed to Boon Tat St to collect Race Kit
settled that around 2 pm then went downstairs to checkout some running gear at Athlete's Circle, bought Injinji toe socks for SGD 24 needed it coz it blisters between my toes if use normal running socks, nearly got Newton Stability Racer but price SGD 249 sweat.gif
after that headed to Queensway Mall in Queenstown (thanks to tengster for the tip!) thumbup.gif i tell u runners that is mall is the bomb! nevermine Sim Lim, Suntec or Funan Queensway is a must go! basically everything was on sale there! shoes, shorts even dri-fit running underwear hahaha one of my mates got a ZOOT racers for SGD 189 very light triathlon racer which he intends to use for running...quite a fancy collection they have on sale, as my previous post , Saucony, Newton, North Face, Salomon, pushed my luck trying all of those shoes tongue.gif and quite a variety of colors as well..

next headed out from Queensway then up to Bugis, watched Night at the Museum! since my mates insisted on watching it ticket price SGD9 after movie walked around Bugis Market bought some souvenirs for officemates and hooked up with another running kaki from KL who came for holidays

reached hotel about 11pm walked past all the brothels with the pimps calling us out "allo! brother! brother!! come come happy time!! " laugh.gif and this ill continue later ill keep for Sunday
11.30 pm got a call from my mate working at FF Paragon they had a pool party with all the gym chicks gathered at his apartments in Orchard, was pretty flustered but what the heck decided to go he came and picked us up from the hotel ard 12.30 partied all night till 6 am...was forced to drink liquor but resisted la told them that i cant drink till Sunday at least, was feeding others alco brows.gif again makan oily stuff there (fried chickem, steak, fish)

Saturday 30th May (RACE DAY)

previous nite party took a toll on us, so decided to sleep till about 1 pm, mate's pretty much decided its going to be a short trip since Marathon is later need to come back and rest, headed out to Esplanade, went up the Singapore Flyer they had a promotions for Malaysians where its half price, and it was nothing short of magnificent! the view from up there is freakin' breathtaking! took lots of pics and my cam was taken away by one of the mate's since he wanted to do spy shot on a Jap chick, hum sup bugger!, after that walked rite up to Merlion cant help to notice that same stretch of road is the where the Singapore F1 night race it held! and the road so smooth!

i decided to go back to the hotel after that, reached around 7pm had quick nap till 9.30 since the flagoff is at 12am, and my mates were still out scouring Spore, they just followed actually for a holiday they didnt managed to register for the run in time sadly

SUNDOWN MARATHON

took the MRT from Aljunied and reach Pasir Ris station about 10.45pm and GAME ON! it was a sea of runners there wearing the vest all preparing for the race all were waiting for the charter bus to take us to the starting point, some of them were rushing back to catch the last train back since there was a corporate run and a 10k run for ladies, really absorbed the hustle and bustle and looking how they where carrying on doing their stuffs yeah i love watching people! road leading up to start point was super jammed! reached about 11.30 pm while walking to the start point, the organisers were yelling "ULTRA MARATHONER COMING THRU GIVE WAY!!!" and immediately all us started to move aside to give them way, and it hit me damn!! im going into unchartered territories im finally doing a marathon! quickly stretched myself gave my bag to my mates who followed me all the way to support me! notworthy.gif and the queue started to flagoff started to build up and you wouldnt believe the amount of people that took part in the race! it nearly took a whole 7 mins to clear the entire marathon runners! ok back to race, saw a few familliar runners from KL said hi and talked with them while waiting for the race

12am sharp Marathon! GO GO GO!!

it was pretty hard to find some empty road to run as the starting point was pretty narrow, it was about 25 feet wide only and runners were packed like sardines! it took me a minute to cross the starting line and another minute for the road to clear up abit then i started my pacing, it was pretty slow since had to manuver thru the maze of runners hit the 1km mark at 7.45 told myself not good need to find some clear air, and thankfully it cleared up! hit my stride and pace about 6.30 per km till 4th km mark when i was hit by stomach cramps! i told myself this is not happening 1 hand pressing against my stomach slowed my pace down to 8.30 per km till about the 9km mark when the cramp was bearable but still was alternating between my left and right hand to press against my stomach probably i suspect from all the food i had since the past 2 days, and the stretch of road "string of lights" wasnt helping either was telling myself is this what im going to see for the next 11 km?? and it was right beside Changi airport you can practically hear the fans from the jet and literally see the planes taking off from the runway..hit the 10KM at 58 mins was feeling pretty good and my cramps slowly subsided and was back again hitting my pace of 6.30, at the 13km mark reached East Coast Parkway quiet a number of peple where having BBQ and singing songs, it really helped to take my mind of the distance and the volunteers where screaming the lungs out saying "ALL THE WAY GUYS, WATER STATION NEXT KM YOU CAN DO IT" Jia YO Jia YO laugh.gif

15KM mark at 1.35 took my PowerGel and my drink that i carried in my pouch, didnt stop at any water station, legs were feeling abit fatigued so i told myself im not doing half but a mara and decided to run with the Sundown Pacer whom was doing 7.15 per km, hit halfway mark 21KM at 2.10, really started to feel my legs but tried not to concentrate on the pain but i was thought i might as well talk with some runner laugh.gif was talking crap with an uncle whom was pacing together with the pacer for the next 5k hit the 26Km marker at 2.45 took another Power Gel and now the battle the has started, this is by far the longest race pace distance ive done if earlier during the race stomach cramps now my legs and thighs were taking the beating, i felt like bricks were tied on my legs each steps on the pavement yes concrete pavement sent shooting pain up my thighs still i fought out for the next 5k till i hit my wall at 31K marker at 3.30, felt a slight twinge in my right hamstring and this was at a route called "Heartland Twist" where it took us around housing area's near to Kembangan MRT and all the while long running on pavements, walked for the next 2km with my water supply running low decided to fuel up at the aid station i told myself that im not gonna stop and stretch fearing side stitch so i slowly started to run for the next 1km before my legs gave way again reach 35km mark at 4.02 hours, my thighs were pretty clobbered to say the least, my personal target was to complete my first mara in 4.30 but i really did underestimate this course, reset my target to complete it sub 5 hours afterall only 7km to go, thats what my mind said but my body was on the verge of giving up next up Waterfront Trail where it took us past the Bedok Reservoir where it was somewhat abit of trail running, that stretch was about 2km did fartleks (run jog walk) was targetting trees as a starting point and also traffic lights, hit 37km mark at 4.17 took a Powergel and a banana from the aid station, thanks to the help of the volunteers who sprayed Deep Heat as well as the pacer whose words i still remember clearly..."you went through 4 hours of shit, what is the next 5km come lets push and get a sub 5 together, pain is just the state of the mind" from there gave it all i got, my mind flashed back to my normal 5k routes loops that i run near my house in Penang, just 4 small loops and 1 big loops till the end i was telling myself ignoring the pain, got my second wind finally i started to get back my pace knowing that the end it near boy let me tell u runners the last 5k i felt like it was like 50km like the end was never gonna come! i started calling on all the other marathoners who were walking at time and by the time i hit the magical 40km mark i was 4.40 with a 7.15 flat pace..and like a bunch of bee's there were like about 20 runners all willing on each other shouting Sub 5! Sub 5! since i know the end was near started to increase my pace and we reached the 300M steep hill that they were saying earlier which made most of other guys pacing with us dropping off pace one at a time...i nearly gave up too lucky hit the downhill stretch jsut in time and i the volunteers were screaming 1km more and the was this last water station took a cup of water splashed it across my head, really went all out, instead of the running straight across the brigde we were redirected run another loop across the brigde which i cant count how far, clock was ticking down fast..after the loop i could hear the music and the people rallying on, saw my mates cheering me near to the finish line as well yes! i was there didnt have time for flashback to think back the distance ive covered as i was chasing the sub 5 and crossed the line in 4 hours 57 mins 55 secs yes i got my sub 5! , hahaha!

what a feeling! sheer determination and will power carried me thru the race, the finishers then were directed to go into the tenth were we picked our shiny medals and t-shirts and drinks, did my cool down left the site around 5.50 am reached hotel around 7 mandi and totally crashed with pain on my thighs

my timing

5K> 29 mins 10K 58 mins
15K > 1h 35 mins 21K > 2h 10 mins
26K > 2h 35 mins 31K > 3h 30 mins
35k > 4h 02 mins 40K > 4h 40 mins 42k > 4h 57 mins and 57 seconds

i think its ok timing since its my first mara..really didnt know how to pace myself over the distance, valueable lesson learnt! now looking forward to do another marathon by the end of this year probably Penang Bridge 09 or Standard Chartered Singapore, for now looking forward to Malakoff 26km this weekend in Penang and Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Half Marathon!!

ill skip what i did on Sunday nothing interesting unless it specifically requested by runners here..hehehe...jokes aside

definitely this race will be marked my my must do races every year from this year onwards, those whom yet to experience this run, you really should experience it and its really one a kind race where you race through the night till dawn...i just cant put it into words although it did nothing beats the experience of taking part in this marathon...its not only the distance but it just has something very very special in it that those who only ran could experience...

That being said, I love your first marathon story, triple02. I'm pretty darn kancheong about my first one (SCKLM) and I'm quite disturbed by the 6 hour time limit. But reading that made me realize that what matters is that I finish it.

Good luck in your next race! biggrin.gif

thanks Syd, the key leading up to it is dont think too much about the distance, and mostly importantly dont pysche yourself out, put faith in your training and your willpower it'll carry you through the race for sure...

btw guys, i think i might have selected wrong vest size for SCKLM can i change it somewhere like online?? sweat.gif

Setia Alam Run

I went into the run expecting me self to clock a real good time but dissapointed sad.gif Apparently I wasn't the oni one, many reasons include bad air, run was over distanced and route was de -motivating (frm what I gathered from me running mates)

Distance was measured at 21.7km (Preview of Adidas KOTR 22km run?)
Many were seen walking just before the last fly over to the finish line. It was no surprise I managed to overtake many runners who were leading me before this stretch of the race

There were so many u turns and many many flyovers tongue.gif A first for me..
I wanted the race to end everytime I made a uturn or run up a flyover..

Near the end of the race, I managed to meet 2 runners whom i lost to in the Bidor half, We chit chatted a little as they also remembered me.. this time around I managed to reach the finish line before them..

i finished the run in 1'50'50(nt very fast sad.gif), a good 3 minutes faster then me Bidor half.. hmm.gif i do wonder when i can reach the 1'40s...
*
more speedwork bro brows.gif and prolly lighter pair of shoes tongue.gif
