no offense bro but u worry too much about the hills.

U will get stronger because of it. Sure u may worry now but when u run, your body will adjust to situations.

Uphill = shorter strides but maintain rhythm. It takes time. As your legs gets stronger, hills are nothing.
When you run downhill, do not lean forward or backwards to slow yourself down. Let gravity do the work but you dont go too fast lah hahaha.

I won't say I'm THAT good but I dare to say that I've improved =)

Read more on tackling hills on runnersworld website and of course train.

meatball, wah Sun Tzu ART OR WAR woh!!!!! Good Good Good.

GE30k 1st loop is 10k - you will have to run the Double Hill route (not the reverse like Mizuno Wave last week)

Then the next 20k you will have to run from the junction where JKR is all the way to Hartamas Petronas kiosk and then all the way back to LG Tapak A. This 20k is a hilly route especially at Kompleks Kerajaan and Plaza Damas. Watch out for these hills.

That will complete the 30k run. Hope this helps.

Riq: The first step will be registering. Fear for the route can come later. We are all to help you here especially with the experiences from ccube. And from I can see, you are running great!

meatball: Wah Sun Tzu Art of War ar? Why so serious lar? Hehe... Anyway, ccube has answered your questions. I personally find it quite tough (not to scare you) for those who didn't run before. I suffered badly in 2008's edition and would like to redeem myself at 2009's edition. But hey, just give it a go. There's always the first step. But hmmm.... Who know's Pacesetters will change the route after what they did to NB15K and Mizuno Wave this year. Maybe maybe...

Anyway, around here at my service apartment (Wimbledon) the hills and roads are nicer to run compared to the park (Wimbledon Common)
=) I'll see If I'm running today haha. but it gets freaking cold around 5.30pm.

Agreed with phoenix, go n register for the 30km GE run and then train for it, got more than enuv time.
and most important, pls dun doubt abt ur ability to complete it. If u minus the elements of doubt away, u will be able to push urself to another level in ur training, that helps a lot.

BTW, the 1st ever race i signed up is a full marathon at KLIM 2007, running experience b4 that, 3mths. Bold but true. it's a damn painful (literally) experience, finished in 5 hour 15 min, n i pratically dragged myself to walk from 28km onwards till finishing line with both painful legs. But i glad i din give up. At the end, i got hooked up with long distance running becoz i am not satisfy with myself and i know i can do better than that.

So just have faith in urself, dun worry abt the distance, as long as u r confident with urself, ur mental strength will pull u thru.

ironrashid aka robocop, how are you doing and hows your training for Pg Mara. hope everything is fine and progressing well.

chin, you have nail down the point so precisely. its mind over body when you are face with challenges in a race. so always think +ve and push on. now i reckon you are much more confident runner after all those experiences that you gain throughout the years of running and racing. keep it up and i salute your motivational factor.

all, no pain no gain & respect the distance. Pain will make you come out stronger.

riq, a group of us will be doing a 30k this Sat in preparation for Pg Marathon. As for the Nike LunaTrainer, it doesnt suits me at all. I dont find the support and stability in the shoe especially when going high speed and at corners. the shoe actually wobbles and the heel-toe transition is not as smooth as i thot. i had pressure pain at my arch after the run. luckily it lasted only 1 day and thats only doing a slow 10k during our simulation run. this shoe is definitely not for me.

riq, yah i dun expect you to run a 30k without a good base training. get urself running more 20k and in not time you shud be able to hack a 30k run, trust me. not doubt the cushioning of the Luna is good but IMHO its too soft (almost like a CROC sandal, so much so its absorbing everything and not pushing my feet up during the heel-to-toe transition) In such situation, you spend more energy lifting up your feet especially when you are doing a long run like 25k or 30k.

meatball, come on.....nothing is easy in a race. sweat.gif especially when you are doing 20k and above. as i said its mind over body once you reach a certain stage. dont get too worried about those reviews that you read.

I always believed in what Richard Branson said "SCREW IT, JUST DO IT"

There's one thing standing between me and signing up for GE30k - the starting time.

Come on. 6am? I'd be finishing at 10am or so. Maybe will end up being a shish kebab
