You guys are wrong. DX10 is not neccessary backward compatible. Some games do need DX9.

1) You CANNOT uninstall DX10.

2) However, you can install DX9 on top of it. There's no conflict coz the DLL names is different..etc DX93D...

Just install the latest DX9 runtime into ur Vista and both DX9 and DX10 games can work fine.

Yes, but the OS STILL uses DX10 to connect to the DX9. Thus you need it to make DX9 works :3

Doesn't bother me...there's no difference to the user. Anyway, not much difference between DX9 and DX10. I'll rather not waste my time.

Speaking of DX generation...i think there's very minimal improvement in the last 2 gen...

DX7- Intro T&L , huge difference as load is move from CPU to GPU.
DX8 - Intro Pixel shader. Big difference with bump mapping compared to previous flat texture.
DX9 - Better pixel shader...looks a bit nicer...no big deal...
DX10 - better pixel again?? Needs magnifying glass to tell the difference...

Of course, bandwidth improves a lot from generation to generation, but feature wise, the last 2 gen has been rather boring.

did you forgot the Shader Model? That's quite big improvement over Shader Model from DX9...

Shader Model is the pixel shader ler. Maybe now its unified pixel shader or whatever, but there isn't a DX10 game that looks significant;y different from DX9. If u look at a DX 7 and DX8, u can immediately tell difference. Between DX8 and DX9, the difference is still noticeable....but DX10...if nobody tells you what DX the game is running, u'll never know.

maybe not noticeable if your hardware isn't good enough. If you seen Crysis or Stalker screenies before, there's differences between DX9 and DX10 rendered game... but most of us just ignore that.

Yes, there is differrence, but the fact is, the difference are too subtle and minor which doesn't justify a generation leap. More like DX9.2. Also, not forgettting all the rumours that some of those comparison are purposely dumb down DX9 to make DX10 looks better...(very desperate attempts).

I'm using ATI 4850 btw. I think it's powerful enuff for most purpose. tongue.gif

Well shader has a "little" improvement, but the real improvement is from the load that goes to the processor. Remember crysis? Even with all the graphic hax, tehre is still one thing that the DX9 version can't do. and that is running crysis in server mode with all physics on. It will just crash the PC because the processor cannot handle all the data sent by the client. Heck, it can't even run Night/day cycle.
In DX10 however it run just fine. Not much difference huh?

Actually, i don't care about Crysis or any FPS for that matter. AFAIK, image quality has miniscule improvement in 99% of the games so far compare to their DX9 counterparts. Hardly anything that jumps out and scream 'Next Gen Graphics!!!' on it.
