It depends on your preference, i just bought a WD 1 TB Green Caviar 32mb Cache @ Rm350 at Lowyat, very happy with it since is just for external hard disk for storing multimedia stuffs no fast spin required for me, anyway just invest in a good external enclosure. And also the new Green Caviar has 3 platters(333 GB each) compare to 4 for the last model(250 GB each), and also a 32 mb cache. Anyway happy with what i bought.

Lowyat which part?

Sri, 2nd floor. went there and asked the price, he said RM350 for the 1 TB WD 32 mb model, then i insist on seeing the real thing and it was it and quickly paid for it. Btw zero bad sectors, so far so good.

noob question here.

whats the difference between WD cavier blue and WD cavier green?

i know the green is for power saving. but in term of reliability and performance, which is better? im worried if i were to get a 1TB WD drive, if it wont last then all the data will be gone sad.gif
*
Hey i have the 1 TB WD Green, is quiet and reliable to be honoest, sometimes if the drive nvr booted quite long it takes long time to copy and paste. But after "warm up" then's reasonable speed. Watch out for a 2 platters(500GB each) 1TB WD Green coming out in a few months time. My model has a 3 platter(333GB each). Less platter less noice and less energy comsuption. Anyway i'm happy with my harddisk just for storage and watching movies.

but i usually leave my pc on all the time. im worried it wouldnt last long. to be honest, i had quite a bad experience with WD previously. but that was quite a long time ago. just recently i heard how seagate hdd is not as reliable like last time so i decided to swift to WD.

Oh up too you lo, so far here in Aussie is ok for me. Probably becoz of the cool weather lately. Only problem is the copy and paste so slow, when long time nvr boot up. Btw i'm using it as an external harddisk.

thanks alot for the info. i think i might get 1TB green brows.gif

btw, could it be slow because you are using it as external? i mean using USB should be slower than using direct sata right? no?
*
Haha not sure man, i think after 10 mins boot up, the copy and paste works fine. Anyway i'm happy with my HDD, just for storage and watching movies, no need crazy fast spinning speed.
Anyway the new 1Tb is better than the previous one, since 3 platters, or you could wait few months from now for a 2 platters model, should be cheaper i think, coz i bought mine for RM350 was really cheap for me personally.

Added on December 27, 2009, 6:57 pmand i also got a question,
if i buy a HHD recently does it mean that it is SATA2 for sure?
*
RM267 for the 32MB cache right? Amazing almost one year ago i bought the green 1TB for RM350, it has been great so far.
If you're talking about the latest HDD then at least SATA2, alternatively you can just googled the product code.
And btw green caviar is sata2 hdd.

Googled this WD10EADS.
I think yours is the 32MB cache, see the label on your hard-disk should have there.

I bought the Western Digital 1TB Green Caviar 64MB cache yesterday for RM299 best price from cycom.
Not bad they even wrap it with an anti-electrostatic discharge bag!
Anyway happy with what i bought, now i need to hunt for an external hard-disk casing.

How much is WD10EARS - 1TB 64MB cache one...

Added on January 7, 2010, 7:54 amJust read about it a little bit on Anandtech, this is a 4k sector size disk, which won't work with Windows XP and before without proper pre-work.

RM299 @ pczone, confirm best price from them for the time being.
