one more question  biggrin.gif

WD caviar green 160GB with 20% free space
                          VS
WD caviar black 1TB with 20% free space

which one will perform better with low-end gaming rig, playing latest modern game
I heard people said high capacity hdd will slowdown pc system, especialy with lot of file/document/program

another  icon_question.gif
*
Not really.
You just need to keep your HDD defragmented thats all. Keep your stuff organized and you shouldn't feel an performance difference. Don't simply campak your files in My Documents then suddenly in your partitioned drive, then in your dekstop.... all over the place. That will hurt performance.

WD Caviar Green actually would spin at a slower rate to consume energy. Thus being "green".
Not a gamer's HDD.

I just bought a WD Black 1TB, installed and formatted it already. The hard disk is vibrating quite strongly, I can feel the vibration when I put my hand on my casing, is it normal?
*
Are you using screws to hold your HDD and not those filmsy and useless tooless brackets?

between Caviar Green and Caviar Black, which would you recommend for use for downloading torrents and watching movies?
*
For torrenting, its just best to go for Green.
You aren't going to get the performance benifits at all from the Black.

And even so, the difference isn't anything dramatic.

Izzit okay to use a WD Green 1.5tb hdd as my main OS drive?
*
Its okay.
But not recommended, the speed will be rather slow.

I do feel a difference to be honest.
Especially from a Samsung F3 to a WD Green (not talking about the 1.5TB here, but in general).

Anyone who can tell me about the 2.5inch WD Elements SE 1TB external hard disk? Thank you.
*
Uhm...
Its an external hard-disk?

It does what it should do.
Perfomance wise, don't expect anything major because its for storage purposes.

Really, a decent hard disk except for the annoying WD software thing that is embedded into the firmware and cannot be removed. sleep.gif

Hey guys,Does WD Caviar black does really improve game performance??Or does a SSD do a better job?I heard better HDD's increase your game loading speed..thats it right?
*
In comparison to which HDD?
If you're talking about HDDs that are now 3 or 4 years old, Black definitely has better performance.

But by how much? On average, not more than 2-3 seconds of faster loading time on the game you're playing now.

Pure performance, if you want to feel it... SSD is the only answer.

QUOTE(earthcrystal @ May 28 2010, 05:22 PM)
Yes. It is an external hard disk.
If there is a firmware, I make sure that it can removed it.

wah, so many, how do u achieve those hdds? using docking station?
*
I suggest, for those who buy alot of HDD and don't like external pre-made HDDs (Mybook, story station, etc.) due to the slow HDDs being used inside, get a dock.
Switch your HDD on the fly. thumbup.gif

so the chaplang rm50 psu can support?
*
Get a reasonable PSU.
Vantec ION2+ 460w @ RM150 is a rather good buy and its components is at a rather decent quality as well.

RM50 PSU doesn't meant can't support... but if anything goes wrong and it decides to pull your system down to hell with it, then its game over.

oooh...tak mau auto backup can or not...i prefer manual copy paste la...possible to disable the software? how is it so far in terms of speed and reliability?

I actually find the Smartware to be more irratating than helpful.
And sadly, it cannot be disabled as it isn't a software but is a firmware feature.

The smartware doesn't really suck if you can bear with it.
Some people find it useful actually.

I dont own 1 so i cant really say much, but for wat i read,it's a useless feature which consumes ur ram and the hard disk storage and it's not deleteable.
*
Yeap.
It isn't deletable because its a firmware feature, not a software.

Well RAM wise... doesn't matter much on these days of PCs.
Its only irratating because the damn thing has to pop out everytime I connect mybook to my PC.

juz wonder how is speed if used as non OS drive
*
Non-OS drive I suppose its for storage.
In that case, speed isn't much of an issue actually.

Its better you pick a cheaper 32mb cache drive instead.
Save a few bucks go starbucks. tongue.gif

juz used for torrent dl... bigger cache no so offen write in gua.. haha
*
Doesn't matter really.
First of all it is because... how fast can you download lol. Don't forget, you're in bolehland. laugh.gif

The amount of data you can write on your HDD is piss-small.
So the cache being as big as 64mb wouldn't make any bit of difference either.

anyone know why hdd prices are falling? is it ringgit appreciating?
*
No, its because Samsung loves everyone. tongue.gif

Seriously though, since the last 12 months Samsung has shaken up the HDD market price like a tidal wave.
They build HDDs with great performance yet coming at a price lower than its competitive products from other manufacturers.

Thus, there's no way the other big 2... Western Digital and Seagate, can do as they please with prices anymore.
The result is, lower prices for the consumers... bigger win for everyone. biggrin.gif
