you're the man.
1st half i could understand...2nd half was abit more
i didn't really understand the deal between abe and lawrence....lawrence took a loan or something from the merchant guild with horo as a gurantor to buy fur, but since there was a rebellion and fur was being burnt or impossible to be bought, the loan cannot be repaid so Horo was sold, which is still a profit to him? Horo was angry when he hesitated to sell her because he wasn't acting like a merchant.
As for shady dealings with the church, i didn't get the significance of statues actually being salt other than the church was profiting from salt smuggling. It didn't matter if it was statues or salt did it? Either way it was money for the church.
i can assure you, i was quite confused myself often too. and i even watched the RAW initially prior to subs for all the episodes, which adds to that confusion even further
after recapping a little from episode lists, i just realized Abe's name is officially "Eve"? "e bu", which v is usually pronounced bu... lol makes sense i guess oTL
and yes fur cannot be sold in the town, and the merchants are desperate, hence the "firesale" abe is capitalizing on that, but does not have enough money, thus used horo as a capital.
also, regardless of the fur able to be bought or not, it wouldn't have mattered as the fur NEEDS to be sold first so that horo wouldn't actually got sold. Abe has to make a trip away to make it happen due to the rebellion and there was no way it could be done there and then. Thankfully they still got the ledger for the inn, and it traded well for horo's freedom lol.
also the statues being salt didn't really mattered if it was salt or the item being a statue or not. it was just a preface for the church to gain power and to do so the church, like anyone else in the world until this very day, needs money. refer to 2nd half of season 1, the church blessed gold bars lol.
