Pardon me, I'm browsing this thread in search of getting news of how exactly iphone gps application fare but now I can't help but to intervene.
The lack of understanding of what is GPS and the difference between A-GPS and GPS amongst most of the loyal iphone owners here annoyed me.
GPS in phone is a chip which receive the signal from GPS satellite. By using this receiver and with appropriate software, you'll get your location without paying a single cent.
A-GPS (Assist GPS) meanwhile not entirely true a GPS receiver. It is called A-GPS because from the name itself it assisting the GPS. It does not even depends on the GPS signal but purely on the data provided by your telco. That is the reason data charge will be imposed upon using A-GPS.
A-GPS of course will be faster because data is provided by tower triangulation of the telco. But it will never be as accurate as the GPS itself.
Get the fact right guys!
get your facts right before shooting LOL
i once did not unlock my sim card by not keying in the PIN, and turn on the maps apps, and it can still detect where am I , just that no maps are loaded due to no connection, but it do can detect that I am moving (the blue dot is moving as i am driving)
SO GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT, OR IF YOU DON'T KNOW, PLEASE DONT SIMPLY SAY
