QUOTE(sugen @ Oct 26 2008, 01:58 PM) Ok, but no blue dot how to know that where r u in the map..rite? QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Oct 26 2008, 03:06 PM) just a rough idea on your current whereabout (based on the nearest cell tower or wifi centre) ahah. just came back from digi center subscribe the unlimited data plan. planning to get this phone on some work!. fyi, 2g iphone user will see a blue circle, which is same as the 'find my location' located bottom left of the google map and it will move along to where we were moving which is what mr. Nokia2003 said by using cell tower. but not sure about the wifi. just test the map this morning. beraya dari shah alam ke gombak with gprs/edge on while watching the map on iphone. the accuracy of positioning is quite good, not as good as ifontrigi which is default with the blue dot for current location. the blue circle respond like 5 - 15 second and during my way to gombak which is good since im just using gprs/edge. sedut all RM50 licin2 just like that. really pain in the ass. may provide with screeny when i have 1. well, the blue circle will follow where we are of course.. cheers! To my understanding, only GPS can pint point + guided to the location.. yeah. most probably. well, experience is more better then understanding. not sure how the real method on how they do this but thats that. i will research more after my phone account change to unlimited data and see. may kikis some phone battery for this Added on October 26, 2008, 7:51 pmQUOTE(Shock @ Oct 26 2008, 07:11 PM) that y malaysia telco are sucking money...i very very scare to use them see my credit just go down like water.. aha.. better purchase data plan if u wanna use this on the road. digi charges RM0.10 per 10kb if im not wrong. so if 8MB then This post has been edited by potion: Oct 26 2008, 07:51 PM

well, plug-in GPS for 1st gen iphone is around the corner. taken from modmyi.com QUOTE In the past various companies have claimed to be developing a GPS module to plug into the bottom of your 1st generation iPhone. Finally after all the wait Orange Gadgets is preparing to release the first GPS plug-in for the first gen iPhone.
Included with the GPS module is a 6ft USB-A to micro USB-B cable for on-the-go or at home charging. With this cable you will be able to charge your iPhone or iPod touch while the module is plugged into your handheld device. A suitable USB car charger, USB wall charger or USB desktop/laptop port is required for this functionality (not included). The cable and the GPS device come together for the price of $75 + shipping.
It appears the GPS module will communicate with a 3rd party app along with google maps if the images on their site are any indication. It is currently not clear whether or not you need to have a jailbroken phone to use the GPS module but if I were to take a shot in the dark I'd say probably yes. source here.any1 interest to bulk this? count me in Added on November 2, 2008, 12:36 amQUOTE(sugen @ Oct 26 2008, 09:24 PM) hmn..You got Malaysia offline map? QUOTE(maxcheam @ Dec 2 2009, 02:00 PM) hi, just want to find out if anyone have tested Waze (http://www.waze.com). It's 100% contributed by the users. So far, most of the contributions are in US. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « What is Waze? Waze is a social mobile application that enables drivers to build and use real-time road intelligence. The service includes constantly-updated road maps, alerts on traffic and accidents, and data providing users with the fastest route to get to wherever they need to go.
Map and traffic updates are automatically collected and generated as users drive with waze activated, but drivers can also actively report and update other users with what's happening on the road including accident alerts, police traps, weather hazards, cheap gas offers and more. And the best part? Because the map and all of its content is driver-generated, waze is completely free for users.
How can waze help me on my commute? Commuters usually have more than one route to their destination, and the eternal question when you get into their car is 'which route is the best for me right now?' Once you enter your home and work addresses, and drive 3-4 times along each of these routes, waze will collect information and learn your optional routes, answering the question each morning as to which route will be fastest.
- Waze is not a navigation application. Navigation services are designed primarily to guide to unknown places, waze is designed to facilitate driving to the places one knows very well; work for example. - Waze is a platform for live maps and real time road information that will be used for many applications - Waze is FREE - Waze is driver- generated - Waze provides real time data - Waze can be installed on a GPS-capable mobile device and does not require additional hardware.
QUOTE The driving community in Malaysia has only recently begun developing, so it'll take a bit of time until waze begins to deliver its full value in your area. Note that when starting out, there may be no map at all and you'll need to actually pave the roads as you go. If you like mapping, though, it's a great time to get involved and you'll have a ton of fun! Source
