Anyone got Klang Valley map to share? xGPS Manager not working on my laptop sad.gif. Only seeing grey background. Earlier I thought it could be my pc problem but apparently it's not. Am using company laptop as my own desktop got hardware problem. Have a feeling it could be some Microsoft security patch that causes the thing fail to work.

I did saw the map during the initial setup. Can't recall what I did after that, from then on the map showing grey colour. From the vague memory I got.. likely I cancel one of the download halfway. Then it start turning to grey map.

On the other hard, I managed to view the map again via another user login on the same laptop this time. This is my laptop setup,

Windows Vista Enterprise 32bit
4GB RAM
JRE 1.6_07
VGA RAM 256MB

Observation:-
************
- irrelevance of which login ID I login to the laptop, the "downloaded map" section in the "Maps Manager" showing blank. Even on the ID that I've successfully downloaded the map there's no map showing. But on the bottom of the page it's showing "total map size: 141.73MB".
- login off from the ID that I able view the map the login back to the default login ID I got, the map still showing grey background.. no map.
- the default login ID I used to login is using resoltuion 1680x1050 but on the ID that I could view the map is using "native" resolution of 1920x1200. Had tried to set my default ID to use 1920x1200, still the map is showing grey background sad.gif.

Tried the following steps and all failed sad.gif..
- use elevated rights (UAC) / right click, run as administrator to launch Maps manager
- change the display scheme from "Vista Aero" to "Vista Basic"
- set the compatibility mode to "Windows XP SP3"

Looks like no choice but I'll have to login as administrator again to allow me to download the map.

Added on March 30, 2009, 8:29 pmJust sharing another scary experience I got on using xGPS. If possible try to reduce the size of the map by not selecting large area, also don't put too many zoom level.

Mine is having zoom level "0,1,2,3,4,5,6,8" (skip the 7) for Klang Valley area and the size is about 140MB. My iPhone 3G crash on me just now until need to do a reset (power button + home button).

This is how I crash my iPhone.
- launch xGPS
- search for location (signal showing poor)
- error pop up complaining about not able to do search (EDGE is not turn on at this time)
- go to SBSetting, click "EDGE" to turn it on...

kabooom!!! at the time it crash the free memory on SBSetting is showing 6MB!! sad.gif. I'll have to remove some of those nice looking but useless stuff.

This is what I encountered.

Installing xGPS through cydia - Some error message come out and can't download at all.

Downloading map - Download for so many times, all download halfway then stopped and not moving.

U guys encounter this problem as well?

That's the issue with Cydia repository. Have to be really really patient with that Cydia.. at time I have to keep retry and only manage to download stuff from Cydia after few hours (several retries).

Need help...

Now that we got the official 3g iphone...does this work with it.

1. do u need to jail break the iphone to use this software
2. does this use 3g/wifi or the gps to detect where u are
*
1. do u need to jail break the iphone to use this software <----- xGPS as far as we know of came from Cydia (need jailbroken). Even if there's someone posted the Debian source in the forum elsewhere you still need ssh to the iPhone to install the Debian package. ssh would meant you need OpenSSH, the jailbroken application to install.

2. does this use 3g/wifi or the gps to detect where u are <---- using GPS, but need EDGE when you try to search for address (least on version 1.2 we've tried the EDGE is a must to search for address)
