DotA isnt the only game around. There are loads of great games out there.
Still,it's important to balance your time with games and other priorities in life.

One more shitty crap from the dotards.Im gonna PM mods to close this.
Im sick of seeing people claiming playing games will improve english, makes you a better thinker, improve your maths etc. It's just games.Just like movies or music,it's just something call entertainment that keep you happy. For f***ing gawd sakes,if you want to improve your maths,go do more maths questions.Understand the concepts. It's not like playing some games gonna give me a HD in maths because Sins of Solar Empire taught me how to do second order differential equations. It just wont happen.Same thing for other things, read a good book to improve your language. I have been playing games for more than 10 years.Does it make me better person? No. There are other factors that make me to be a better person. Dont be such a retard thinking that playing games will improve yourself. The whole topic has derail from it's original topic anyway. It's another dota flame fest. QUOTE(aleluya @ Oct 25 2008, 01:06 AM) You can't really compare japanese game with games that we are currently playing. Japanese games always include 1 very important thing: A very proper written story line. Japanese never fails to create fantasy story, and I'd recommend japanese games as learning because it is really something to learn from. I dont know about Japanese games but it definitely doesnt work for English games after 2000.Games are getting more and more simplified as time goes by.Getting less text and story too. But some people here pointed to "online game" or DotA, how much we could actually learn from it? I really doubt. English? What? Pwned is not an english word; it makes the community fall into something that doesn't really exist in English itself. It was created only on PC. You don't see your boss(corporate world) tells you "Hey you've been pwned; so now f***ing leave before my killing spree". Oh well. QUOTE(Ash @ Oct 25 2008, 07:02 AM) The guy above me is a DOTARD. Text based games helps because they are very well written. It does improve your english if you play those text based game because they have no graphics to show what is happening. So,they have to use words to describe it.DOTA is fine as a game but I would prefer hugging and being sweet to my gf over DOTA anytime Believe it or not, me and a bunch of friends have got our English significantly improved ever since we started to play MUD game (text based game) when we were form 1. One of them was at the failing level where everyone else (mostly foreigners) in the game would go super LOL as he spoke in the game. After playing that game for about one year, not only did he improve his English from failing to scoring A's consistently, we've also got to improve our typing speed to a nice level which is obviously useful when it comes to doing any computer based assignments/projects. I'd believe if you tell me it's bullshit that you can improve your Maths by playing DOTA but it is 100% possible that one who is weak at English can actually improve the language in an easier way when it happens to be the right game. It doesnt work for any today's games. From DotA to Stalker:Clear Sky. I do agree that you can improve your language with the right game. With games like DotA,it's just no. |

QUOTE(Core- @ Oct 25 2008, 12:19 PM) yea... if really talking about improving language... Those games are extinct now.only some certain right game will helps. others? might helps, for very very very very minor. dota helps on some certain VERY VERY minor vocab. but the main problem is who will be the one search into dictionary for those words?? personally i don search over those word in dota too. who will anyway? but experience before that i read those word from some other place, then i goes "ooo... this word is really a proper english word. hmm... yea kinda suit for the dota skill name". LOL!!! Better just go and read a book if you want to improve your language. Dotards are dotards.People with no brain. QUOTE(kenixkenix @ Oct 25 2008, 12:24 PM) That what i trying to say. |

QUOTE(fujkenasai @ Oct 25 2008, 12:35 PM) Dota is meant to make people frustrated and release your anger on some younger kids. DotA is just an annoying game by it's design. It's slow and painful to play when you lose. Its just a pure waste of time. Its neither educational nor enjoyable, how do you find things that irritate people enjoyable, just look at the amount of cursing and swearing from dotards in Cyber Cafes around Malaysia. Im done with WC3 anyway. It's aint gonna get installed on my system anymore. I tend to ignore them now.Waste time to argue with those idiots. |

Most of the ppl are already enough of all his whinings. Yeah,it's true now but i used to play.I know how it works. How about you? Have you tried anything other than DotA? If not, better just shut up and f*** off as you dont have the right to say DotA is the best game out there. There are tonnes of better games out there. QUOTE(Golden @ Oct 25 2008, 01:30 PM) If you want to be pro, u need to specialise in ONE game only. Some ppl choose to specialise in CS, but for me i just want to concentrate on dota only. Look at the pros in WCG, they only practice on one game. So,does it matter? If you play all types of game... In the end you are not good at any game... I play games because i want to have fun and enjoy myself. I dont plan to a pro in any game as it wouldnt give me a bright future, especially in countries like Malaysia. Besides,im more interested in know how the games work or see some newer technologies in new games than playing it competitively.Im more incline to mod a game than be a pro.Just that time is a big problem for me. Gaming is one of the industries that is constantly evolving, why bother to be stuck at one game while there are better games coming out every year? I dont mean better graphics but better gameplay or some new innovations. There are some good old games that i regularly find myself going back to it. |

QUOTE(Core- @ Oct 25 2008, 03:11 PM) there is NO BEST game in this world. I have been insulted by those people, taking the topic that im discussing to OT and dissing other games, you think i should just sit there and tolerate with these trolls.there is NO GENERAL BETTER game in this world too. as long as u love a game, u enjoy it, u will keep playing the game. that is the best for u... when u play more gamesss, u comparing to each others... u feel XXX game better than YYY game. BUT IT DOESNT means everyone would agree that. so no "better game in general" better game or best game is base on each individual taste. games i play before got... Dota (casually now), RO. WoW, WarHammer (currently), RO2 (korea beta), RYL2, Maple, Perfect world, Granado Espada, Ghost Online, Babo Violent, SDO, O2Jam, Star Craft, WarCraft, Diablo2, FiFa, CS, Half Life, Quake, etc etc etc etc bla bla bla bla nada nada nada nada im still waiting for RO2 to come out. and also dragon ball online. i love dota, i would say dota is one of the best. i love RO, i would say RO is one of the best. but Bot spoil the game. though im a botter too. WoW, pretty interesting but i quit coz busy that period. still got 1 piece wow reload card with me. warhammer playing now. also the reason i don really play dota now. (pay jo wo =.=) but might quit, content too little. best part is all about whacking player which suits me. but whack player since lvl 1 til now kind of bored. hope they improve and giv more content else i might quit once i reach max lvl... yada yada yada yada... u and i are not much diff actually. from what i read u said, u play games too. not limited to 1 game. but many games. test game play, see graphic, etc etc. we are pretty similar. i just feel uneasy when u ask people to shut up and fcuk off. what right u got to say there are some better game for other ppl? might hav some other game for u, but not others. not all. im dota player. used to be hard core. i dono ur dotard means all dota player or those super gila dota ppl. but... do u think u really got brain too? i don think u should insult/look down on others that doing something u dont like. they aint criminal. Go see my other posts. How often i use foul language? Im sick of these people.Always go around to cause trouble. They arent stupid but they are annoying. "DotA is the best MMORPG from Blizzard" I saw that annoying line for gawd knows how many times. |

QUOTE(chchyong89 @ Oct 26 2008, 11:31 AM) Let's back to topic. Still,i think that the guy should have some time for himself, rather than spending all the time for the gf.And i think the time chosen to play dota is very important. So, it will be fair for your girl friend. Since every round will take up almost one hour. And i totally hate leaver and afk'er in game. So, choose a time to play that u can give fair to both opponents and your girlfriend. Missing a phone call once in a while is ok,IMO. Playing games online tend to be much more addictive but i dont think we have any choice now as most single player offline games are often short and doesnt have enough challenge for a standard player.20 hours is enough to finish a typical single player game.It will 30 hours for me since i tend to play the game slowly to enjoy the game to the fullest. What i always do is: walk to this area, drool at the graphics first, then, continue the quest. This post has been edited by Cheesenium: Oct 26 2008, 12:24 PM |
