Home Basic is the only version of Vista which has the least demanding umph compared to others. Home Premium comes next

There is no such thing as 2nd hand Vista or XP. As those XP/Vista copies have already been activated. Here are the versions of vista that I am using (All are OEM Editions and managed to get them at a cheaper price. It doesn't come in a fancy box. Just a manual and sticker along with the CD. I guess it must have dropped from Dell's factory tongue.gif)

Ultimate = Got money ? Then use this. However I managed to grab this version for RM ~RM 450 (bit cheap eh ?)

Business = Its actually Windows XP Professional with a new look and new stuff. Thats about it. It comes with encrypted file system and all those backup tools you need. However , it doesn't come with Windows Media Center and all those fancy tools that you get along with Windows Home Editions. Recommended if you are business user

Home Premium = I am using this for my HTPC. The main reason is because this is actually Windows XP Home Edition + Media Center addon. I wouldn't say this is Professional version of XP , as it lacks of Remote Desktop and other stuff. I just want this for Windows Vista's Media center so I can record Astro show , pause Live TV , listen to music and watch HD Content stuff on my TV. Its meant for home use

Home Basic = cheapo version of Windows Vista. Its actually Stripped down version of Windows XP Home. If you don't have much $$$$ , then its recommended to go for this version. Nothing fancy about it

For Vista, at least get a Home Premium. Home Basic is crap.
I think the price of XP Pro is nearly the same as Vista Home Premium these days.

For second hand software, I think it's only for non-OEM keys, as OEM keys are locked to the motherboard of the PC it's was first installed into.

Just to add on, you still can use the second hand OEM Vista version but there's a limitation to activated it. You have to use the same model of motherboard like the previous owner. If you are lucky enough, you can get the original cheap DVD for a better price. You will get the same feature like everyone, no less no extra. But, it's really hard to find one that match with your motherboard model and totally it's a disaster for the owner itself when they are trying to change the motherboard or when the motherboard is faulty. OEM is totally disaster, but to save money, it's the only choice you have.
