restore another iphone from your backup (using the same itunes). then synchronise the contacts to your outlook (if you are using windows) via a top tab when you plug in your iphone.

because the backup file is in a compressed file to save space.

i cannot remember how it was being done. i read that a long time ago.

@bledig,
Do u not have any other friends who uses an iPhone?! Perhaps U could work with an iPod too?!

I feel sorry for you cause I can fathom the amount of heartache (losing ur iPhone) and now having issues with ur contact details...

Thankfully, I use a Mac and my contact details are updated to my Add Book. Hope u find a way though smile.gif

If Ur around the PJ/Damansara area, perhaps I could 'loan' you my iPhone ?

u can check mdelper from erica sadun on ericasadun.com. it extracts the file from your backup. but this app is Mac exclusive.

but if u wanna retrieve your file directly from the deleted parts on your iPhone flash memory (by imaging the iPhone drive), u can use dd utility via command line and transfer the file through SSH. for this it's a very time consuming work that by just extracting the whole iphone drive image it will take approx. 3 hours. for this u have to make sure u have Terminal, Installer and BSD / Unix Subsystem (this can't be done under Cydia).

happy recovering and good luck!

(i've just finished imaging my iPhone drive and performed recovery. finally!)
