hmm.gif guess i would go for an ASRock MOBO if those brands are the only options ... any idea where i could get my hands on 1? sweat.gif

My current setup

P4 2.4 'Prescott' non HT
ASRock P4i65G mobo
512 Kingston DDR 400
no GC as my 5200FX burn edi, it was AGP and so is the mobo.. rclxub.gif

SO the thing is i wan to minor upgrade my system , add some ram and a decent GPU as i would want to be able 2 run games like red alert 3 n the new NFS titles with decent graphic quality.. rclxms.gif

Need recommendations to this.. nothing too expensive though around 900 budget here.. all help appreciated notworthy.gif

Oh yea, add me to the list icon_rolleyes.gif

if u really do get the board... i suggest 9400GT for u... more than enough to run Undercover at decent quality and frame rate...
*
9400GT enough to run latest games at reasonable setting?? like crysis or NSF and CnC: Red Alert 3 a 9500GT would fare better ... tongue.gif

Any shop selling this mobo ASRock P4VM900-SATA2

Seems like the best choice of mobo for 478 Brand New i mean.. any better alternative with better spec ? only important thing is the PCI-E Slot and SATA hmm.gif

Added you in the list. Hunting for a new mobo?
YUP...

Urm.. i looked around and Biostar P4M900-M4 looks like the best bet. RM180 on the price list rclxms.gif
only bad thing is the m-atx.. looks like all the 478 boards these days are m-atx .. correct me if I'm wrong

Now only the GPU .. no suggestions for a budget card? just scared the 9400GT cant keep up with upcoming games

Oh yea thanx for the add to the list biggrin.gif

forgot 1 last thing CPU cooler to get my p4 2.4 to a reasonable 3.2GHZ any suggestions under RM 100 if possible tongue.gif

@mav,

mirco ATX board is good wat....can be used as HTPC...

the P4M900 is a good choice....also, you'll need a pcie card...not more agp with the said board...also ddr2 as well...
*
well some time back my AGP card burned sad.gif .. and then no hope for gaming edi .. even DOTA cant high setting wen 5v5 blush.gif so its a good time to upgrade to pci-e.. never wanted to because the AGP card would be kept aside and wasted but now whistling.gif ... the old ram will go into my old celeron box that will run windows home server. [Anyone wana trade 2x256 to 1 stick 512?], DDR 2 is a cheaper choice aso cuz i gona put 2gb inside.... DDR400 killer price now rclxub.gif

I'm still stuck wen it comes to the GPU sweat.gif is the CPU a bottleneck to newer cards? or will a HD4850 work just as good?

my setup would be,

P 4 2.4@Stock 'Prescott' @ 533Mhz
Biostar P4M900
2GB Kingston Value RAM DDR800 @ 533\667MHZ <--- is this recommended/possible?
Maxtor 160GB SATA
Maxtor 160GB Pata
HEC-300ER PSU 300 watt i think blush.gif
DVD Burner

Only the GPU now duno what to get need recommendation la .. willing around RM300 but maybe can push to 400.
How would a HD4850 fair with this configuration?

hmm.gif if so extream the bottleneck better save some cash and go for a 9400GT sweat.gif

@dlwl

I rather go brand new, scare if anything go wrong or spoil blush.gif but just wanna noe std price for second hand 8600GT?

@astria

Thanx for the info, sheds some light on what to expect from the 9400GT, but performance is a lag on crysis compared to the 9500GT?? how about the HD4xxx series anything good on a budget?

hmm.gif Does the bottleneck effect GPU performance till a level where a cheap 9400GT will peform at nearly par eith a 9500GT? in that case better go 9500GT hmm.gif

NFSUC very hardware demanding. i m getting around 20-30fps on my rig on medium-low settings. Still playable, but not enjoyable. I'm skipping this one.
*
Aiya ... so if i upgrade 2 p4 2.4@3.0 + 2gb RAM + 8600GT can't play NSFUC? with good frame rate and graphics?? cry.gif

bro, in your case, your system is working fine. your problem in oc is very general, perhaps you can elaborate further on your issue. then again, oc depends on luck also most of the time.

good gc? your mobo supports PCIE, so i think 9500GT range would fit pretty well without bottlenecks.
*
Bro .. this mobo is via chipset and i have heard of problems running the nvidia 8800GT and such .. just worried it wont want 2 run the 9500GT... was looking at ATI side because the 4850 runs on this mobo .. play safe abit sweat.gif

QUOTE(kabukiawie @ Apr 21 2009, 02:37 PM)
agreed with ed, most of our problem was discussed since few previous versions. hardcore p4 users only handful. most p4 user now just play safe or already running at its optimum performance. thats why it seems a bit slow these days.

@mav910623
p4m900 wont bring you far due to its chipset limitation. but if you able set it to 1:1, you can easily get over 3GHz with your current 2.4A(i am the ex user).

better keep an eye on the temp. even though running at stock is cool, once oc its temp can be greatly increase when full load.

*
Yea bro .. temp is the only major issue here..Stock cooling doh.gif but it seems that as soon as i try 2 OC even a little it will get unstable or wont start up at all... really annoying edi.. well going to jump to a 3.2 GHz northwood n c wad happens thumbup.gif

@mav910623, don't put high hope on the VIA chipset. If temp to o/c from 2.4GHz to 3GHz afraid is kinda hard for you. sweat.gif Your chipset comes with integrated graphic?
*
yea bro got integrated Graphics... im not putting any if not high hopes on this VIA chipset. really only got it for the PCI-E slot when my AGP FX5200 got burned... never should have pushed it blush.gif

@edministrator

Im not getting a 4850 that would be over kill ... i was pointing out that a 8800GT refused and a 4850 went trough just fine.. just a comparison.. biggrin.gif

BTW.. im planning of getting a P4 3.2Ghz northwood.. comment

@ Raymond

what are the odds of getting a 3.2 northwood to 4Ghz on stock cooling? mind you my case is messed up .. lolx

n yea ... urm 9500GT worth it?? not better topup abit for better card? like 4830 or 4770?

Power requirements on theres card are high ?? because im only running 400Watts of juice 17a on 12V rail doh.gif

what are the odds of 3.2 northy clocked to 4GHz on stock cooling? if you have done your research, u r asking the question that you know the answers to already. obviously no, not even on 3rd party cooler.

which vga for your setup, depends on how u see your investment. you can even buy 4870, then migrate your card next time when you upgraded. if you only wanna use the vga solely for this p4, ATI 46xx and nv 95/96gt is a more logical purchase.

400W (cap ayam, i presume?) with 17A, should be non true power. for mid/hi range vga is pushing it, might work but you are on the edge of sucking the life out of your PSU.
*
Well i figured.... but no point aso 2 OC when im running this Via chipset sweat.gif

Really dunno on the GC segment i still think better go mid/lower end card like ATI46xx and use extra cash on better PSU.. Gonna be off 2 UNI soon anyway.. then have to leave my P4 behind cry.gif

no wonder i can reach 4GHz..mine was a Prescott =X

Bro... so damn berani 1 u .. what temp ur Prescott on when on load at 4GHz ?? Water cooled??

Edit: Spelling mistake... blush.gif

jst remember to up nt only CPU V but NB V also

but must sure he using prescott right?? Northwoods cant do that sort of clock speed.. Something 2 do with short pipelines if not mistaken sweat.gif
