From many of the threads, we have seen that many do want to find a decent HTIB (not to the extend of full set home theater) with budge, value, specs, features and most value for money considerations.

Over these few months, i have researched throughout the net and also AVS forums to find one that i would buy before the end of this year. For forumer's benefit and also hoping to get 2 cents from forumer's as well, i have started up this thread

I would post first 3 entry HTIB in comparison. These 3 are the most budgeted sets which gain high ratings from anywhere else and LG's won the home theater of the year. Each has its pro and cons and therefore hopefully based on the input by forumer's here, we can get a all-rounder in getting the best balanced choice.

Also if there are any extra price info or where can get cheaper, we would appreciate if this info could benefit all as well

I hardly see any review for this model, already in sony.com.my listed out this model at suggested price
most of the sound feature are comparable to the few sets placed above, but i saw few additional 'features' from this toy that actually caught my eyes

A) it's blu-ray player ready - the above models are all with DVD and although they should be able to change with bluray player in future, but this is readily plug in with a blu ray player, which in another words, futureproof (also with dts-ES supported)

B) M.P.C.M (Multi Channel Linear PCM Digital-In) which is sort of new hearing for me

C) 1000W (RMS) power output, 143W x 5 plus 285W subwoofer, 3 ohms [SIZE=5]
it does mean POWERFUL!!! usual 1000W are with 6ohm or 8 ohm with in the real sense, they are not 1000W in real, but is this for real??

I can't find any decent review on this one, whether because it's just come out....
but any more word can add up comment to this?

Added on October 3, 2008, 9:25 ami posted a summary from the review of the BEST HDMI PLAYER thread, and it seems that Philips won a bit over the USB feature, still collecting views, but one thing is, will the compatible issue happen if link up with the HTF2300

Will it have definite advantage if i combine HTF2300 + NS708 compare to HTF2300 + Philips 5998?
Because Philips 5998 won over the USB thingy, which can play DIVX from USB drive..wink.gif

Though I think NS708 won slightly over with the DVDA supported? correct me if i'm wrong
Both plays any DVD though, after i checking out another HDMI player threads...they both got pretty good comments

as long u get the 2300, u wont go wrong with any of the pairing above.
the 2300 is futureproof with mpcm
personally my take, im not a philips person, heck i avoid that brand whever possible except for bulbs.

i dunno how the philips looks, but personally, i like the look of the 708h, having previously fiddle with the 1st gen NS76h, and i rekomen 2 frens to buy it, and they were happy with it

Check my one year old Panny PT550 HT, the RMS output power is
Front ch 125W per channel (3 ohm)
Surround ch 125W per channel (3 ohm)
Center ch 250W (6 ohm)
Subwoofer ch 250W (6 ohm)
Total RMS Dolby Digital mode = 1000W

Is it good?

From my checking last time, it's not as listed 3 ohm and 6 ohm
as i know it's not actual RMS 1000W
Most of the hifi system and home theater manipulate this info to let you look powerful.
And thus i was surprise of Sony htf 2300 where the ohm impedance is 3ohm..
anyway i will find out myself whether is it that superior

he he i'm no brand person ....i go with what's best...from the specs and also reviews of actual units

i know i won't go wrong, but only one thing miss out, for 708H which is the USB, as i need it to watch downloaded movies

DV610 of Pioneer, double price, other than all the discs can be watch, not picky, can watch even MPEG4 and DivX which is most convenient to my situation...what's more, support SACD and DVDA, and so far i gather that 708H is not DVDA compatible..correct me if i'm wrong.wink.gif

LG HT762 already no double is one of the top listed HTIB, but not yet the best, and seen review that the downside is its PQ just so so. I mean upscailing. Soundwise, even the entry level can already amaze you for what you are paying for...

For me, i always go for the best balanced choice, means i set a budget and within that budget i go for the best value for money one. I set my top priority on what am i looking for, tolerate for some downside which is tolerable and keep searching for the review and the actual unit sound. For this one, you need to test it up finally. Only before this, search within few on hand final selections and then go to test it out....hard to earn customer money nowadays, hoh? sweat.gif

Comments are welcome... biggrin.gif

I always go for the best balanced choice, the budget of RM2500 is set,
thus HT-SF2300 + DV6100 = RM1600 + RM600 = RM2200 plus a decent S Video or HDMI cable, still within the budget..hehe

so hope there are second opinion to overcome this though

any same range price Home theater In Box or Home Theater Component that can beat this combination?

The major problem with HTIB sets is their speakers, which, in my opinion are too toyish/plastic-ish....(speaking from experience). With most HTIB, the connections are proprietary, and you cannot use any other speakers/cables.

I saw one thread of a forumer gets RM1700 quote for that set, and then he push limit to RM1600 to buy from the taukeh.
Anyway RM1600 is really not impossible though, taking that the official suggested price is RM1999, as you know from the official suggested price, it's often few hundreds cheaper if you get from certain AV Shop..... Panasonic PV80H is one of the sample, Official now is RM4699, but market price is RM3799(in Penang)

True, thus one forumer 'hit' me up from this let me opt for the HOME THEATER COMPONENT + GOOD HDMI DVD PLAYER

what's more HT-SF2300 is BLURAY READY, and made for this component

Gurus I have a question.
I am not a 5.1...7.1 whatever fan and I don't hv a av amp, only plasma and dvd player. When I play movies the conversations are very soft. Is there a way to go without using an av amp? If not is there a good low cost av amp to recommend ?
TIA

You can't get good sound with amp alone. It needs to come with all the 5.1 or 7.1 speakers to sounded their best. Heck even 2.1 also beat TV speakers anytime. Your best bet is to get HTiB if you don't want spending too much on home theater.

Haha itu kacang saja (piece of cake) tongue.gif

Just get yourself PC 2.1 speakers. That's what I'm using now for bedroom setup (Altec Lansing ATP3). No amp needed. Just connect your DVD stereo out to the speaker mini jack input (you need mini to RCA cable). Better still if you can get speakers with RCA input or coaxial/optical input.

Anyway, one thing I don't like if the person got a bassy voice, the sub will amplified it rolleyes.gif

Anyone knows which Sony Home Theater Shop that sell HT-SF2300 and also Pioneer DV610...cause i guess that only when buying few things together, they might give more discount. Sony HT-SF2300 price is quite 'steel' as i think due to the SONY BOOKLET present the price..asked one shop in Penang here, and the price given was RM1999

I suggest you audition the HT-SF2300 first..... I remember in a previous post someone who auditioned it was not too impressed.
Sure it can process HD audio, but can you tell the difference with those typical HTIB speakers?

I think the attraction was that it's component with Bluray Player ready made for..
also if buying the normal HTIB, one will get trouble if would like to change or upgrade player to bluray, as for the HTIB normally the receiver, player, and speakers line link up to the proprietorship design... sweat.gif

By the way, maybe the question is for RM1799 or RM1999, could we get better HT Component set which can beat this one in sound wise and also features wise?

Really hope someone sifus out there do know...

Previously i also busy at comparing among HTIB, but finally think for Home Theater component (below RM2000) as it can be upgraded

only now wish to know if there are better home theater component set plus DVD which can beat the quality for combination of SONY HT-SF 2300 and PIONEER DV610.

Is the Panasonic HTIB with wireless surround speakers & Kelton subwoofer any good? Saw it selling around RM2399 at Jusco.

They are good, of course..SC-PT865

Only i have seen some comment about the unstableness of wireless. It's in fact a good price. Previous i saw at RM 2599, however, again, the problem is still with the bundleness of the whole set, which you will find impossible to upgrade...

There are few good one though in comparison with this model, but lower price...

Hi Guys,

May I know why u ppl buy HTIB with another HDMI dvd player. Does external DVDP better than the internal HTIB player ?? Or b'coz of upscaling purposes.

Yah, it is built for Blu Ray player, meant to stay together..so it can be considered as future proof, with player upgrade availability should you be changing to Blu ray player in times to come..so i can say, it's value for its money.

Only am now try to see if there is any set within this price range can beat it on the price and also features wise...

Not really for all BD player. Only players with all HD audio decoded onboard like the PS3, Panasonic DMP-BD50/55 and Sony BDP-S550 and few others can be coupled with the STF-2300.

Players like Panasonic DMP-BD30 and Sony BDP-S350 you won't get to hear DTS-HD MA with it. nod.gif

Hi how much was offered for LG-HT953TV
If your definite decision is to stay with the hifi for once and for all, go for this,

This model just won what-hifi best HTIB of the year for its category

Any review to support that?

Also for the RMS how many OHM and the %THD is also important

HTSF for 10%THD which i think is quite high, should be around 1 or 2% for normal decent hi-fi system, and less than 1% for those VERY DECENT one wink.gif

RM2300. The price is really ok. ONly that when thinking about any upgrade, it will be a big headache, as the DVD player is attached with the speaker and inter-related. That's why HT COMPONENT SYSTEM become my consideration

True too on the problem should the player or the amp spoilt ..... both will be out of order. But a reasonable component system will set u up to at least double the price. Someone recommend me the Onkyo 606 amp.... what speakers is best fitted with it if i wan a nice system for both home theater and music icon_question.gif

That's why it hit me for a consideration of the HT-SF 2300, however, from the net, hardly can see any decent review or proper review for this model. Wonder if it's too new, too few people own it, or too less people asking about it. But then, i wonder how come there are forumers in this audiophile recommend this, when not so many people heard about it? sweat.gif

Thanks anyway.

Heard from other thread that the quality isn't as good as it was reviewed. Any person seconded that? or oppose to that.

Appreciate 2 cents from anyone heard its sound or quality before...

who actually have the unit to do a honest saying.

Thanks, yes, i understand

our sharing is based on getting the best balanced choice.

If following expert review, should upscale the budget a bit and go for LG953TV since it won mid range HTIB in What's Hifi award of the year

What i would like to know from 2300 owner is that do theyfeel worth the price that they are paying for, for that system sound...

THanks.

My next shot is the HT-SF2300, cause already bought DV610 for RM480, so worth it...
so they are not exceeding my predetermine budget of RM2500
only not sure if there is any other HTIB component system which can beat this..

heard few that the HT-SF is a bit weak on bass...but never heard of the actual owner from forum

Heh heh, if you're hung up on bass, Pioneer's HTZ777 with two downfiring subwoofers for RM1,999 should give you a kick (more like a THOOM). And fits within your budget (and you get a backup 1080p HDMI player). smile.gif

I have bought the Pioneer DV610 DVD Player
it would then be redundant right?

For
DAV-IS10
TRUSTED REVIEW GAVE GOOD SCORE, BUT I AM A BIT CONCERNED ABOUT THE 'NO HDMI THING'..it's definitely a losing side

The GOOD
Very cute
Surround sound is impressive
Small, easy to hide satellites ...

THE BAD
Large, impossible-to-hide sub
DVD performance isn't up to par
Silver wiring stands out in any living space!
No HDMI or video switching

The bottomline:The Sony DAV-IS10 is a likeable system with incredibly tiny speakers but it stops quite short of a hearty recommendation.0

4. DAV-DZ850KW RM2,299
Is it DV870KW ? cause only saw DV870KW, and no DV850 in sony.com.my
If it's , i would recommend this, simply because it includes DVD player apart from similar HT-SF2300 specs, which HTSF2300 sell for RM1999 at recommended price

This Pioneer's HTZ777 model looks good. The DVD looks good too but I was disappointed when I found out that the rear speakers have cables attached to it. I am looking for HTiB that does not have cables attached so that I don't have to drill the walls and hide the cables and have more flexibility to position the speakers. sad.gif

I like the Sony models with S-Air technology. Is this type of tech good? Also are DVD units from Sony HTiB good?

have made my choice

listened and auditing PIONEER TODOROKI RS7 series, compared to the SONY Home Theater Component system HT-SF2300,

Even both at the entry level, Sony HT-SF2300 is just like a kindergarden kid to a secondary school leavers..the difference are very much obvious...i guess PIONEER really still the 'Tai Koh' even at this entry level set

Take of DV410 (as I have bought DV610 at RM480 - A & L promotion for 20 sets) and the shop counted me for RM2000 (take off RM599 for the DV410) i guess my set has suddenly become so value for its money...
means i just bought at RM2480 for an RM2599 priced set

However doesn't try out DAV-99 though...wink.gif

a bit pricey, although it's bamboo diaframe, and also wireless, and with Apple Ipod Pod, another version is PT865..

hey guys

actually i went a quick survey n find out that.. pioneer sound > sony
im comparing for around the same price for both

sony DAV-DZ570K and pioneer htz 270dvd / htz 565 dvd

i like pioneer better but when i checked.. apparent pioneer unit dont have optical in..
which is a big let down as my main reason of buying is to share my ps3 with the speaker set..
yes it has red/white input but i need 5.1 surround thru optical..

any opinion on this?
sony DAV-DZ570K cheapest i ask is RM 1300.. issit ok? (price in kuching)

i've just bought the LG 953TV and the sound is awesome ....... BUT, the picture is worst than my old JVC htib ( which is cheaper by 2/3 the price ) ...... i watch the Celine Dion latest DVD concert previously wt my JVC and the picture was very clear but when the LG picture was soft and a bit grainy ....... very disappointed with the set mad.gif
furthermore, the LG was with the hdmi & upscaling feature while my old htib was only using component wire sad.gif

Yah. LG has reputation for sound impressiveness in a box, but for picture processing, they are not really doing that well.

i just bought myself samsung HTz315 (very good price)

its my first htib.. and im very very impressed with the sound quality esp when using it for gaming and movies..
but upscaling job is bad also thru HDMI using DVD.. so sometimes i juz use ps3 upscaling instead.. much much better

i never imagine i would actually go for samsung as im auditioning sony/pioneer set at first
but at that same price range they dont offer digital input.. so i juz go for sammy set.. it has 1000rms and its using 4 tallboy speaker for set less than 1.5k.. awesome!

Anyhow it will increase the PQ, it's just that value of upgrading should count in first.

for LG953TV, it's the original set that doesn't do upscalling well, and thus for good HDMI, it can only do what a HDMI should do...nevertheless, the sound quality is quite impressive for a HTIB set...no wonder they get the best Mid Range HTIB of the year..

Even the RM1100 LG HTIB already sound wonderful..

Need quick reply from all the sifu here...

Which one would be better for pairing up to PS3, LG HTZ762TZ or Pioneer HTZ777DVD. Already purchased HTZ762TZ but the shop is waiting for stock to arrive, the towkay offered HTZ777 as a replacement (need to pay up a bit)...

Both got optical, so can pairing with my PS3 should be no problem but how about the sound quality and the DVD upscaling?

PS3 decodes all the HD audio codecs internally, and sends out as high bitrate multichannel PCM signal via HDMI. So, to hear lossless/HD audio from PS3, the home theater must have the capability to accept multichannel PCM via HDMI only.

If you use optical connection, the DTS-HD MA/Dolby TrueHD will be downgraded to normal DTS/Dolby Digital only, and it gets worst if the movie only provide uncompressed multichannel PCM tracks where it will be downmixed to stereo. So, you can still hear the audio, but just normal audio like you hear on DVD, you won't get to experience the lossless/HD audio on blu-ray.

Don't know about other models, you guys must check the specs sheet first. But I can confirm that the Sony HT-SF2300 does accept mutichannel PCM via HDMI, and no, it's not wireless (I think must buy some sort of adapter to make it wireless). But this model only suitable with PS3 and other internal decoding standalone BD players only.
