the thing is, if i install the OS and activated it..

When you buy an OEM version you may only use the license on one pc only. After activation, you cannot transfer the license to another pc anymore.

However if you get a retail version, you may transfer the license as many times as u want to other pcs, but with the condition the license is used only for one pc at a time.

What happen if the PC need to format due to serious virus attack OR hardware malfunction OR whatever reason. Surely Microsoft allows us to get the OS activated right? Which PC can gurantee that it dont need reformat for the rest of its PC Life. I am also using OEM with my new PC and with my PC having so many problems, reformating is just a matter of time.

Use pirated copy. Sure solve all yer problems.
LOL.

If you insist on ori, you just need to call MS to give you a new key becoz you have reformated ur PC.

Reformat would not be a problem as your hardware configuration is still the same.

However if there is a major hardware failure which requires hardware changes, you can still call MS to allow a reactivation with your OEM key.

Pc 1 = Have os.
If pc 1 is being sent to reformat.
And you want pc 2 to have the os.

Pc 2 is allow unless pc 1 don`t have it.

Meaning 1 lisence 1 pc.

You can transfer the lisence to the other pc. by uninstall then install on the other pc.

It will run for 30 days and then you will be locked out of your pc. Been there. Done that.

My advise, transfer your important data before that happens.

Only have my pc with OEM for a week and had already reformated and reinstall Vista 3 times. No problem encountered so far.

I am sure it will work with full retail version. But not sure whether it will work that way with OEM.

Never have any problem with XP but this Vista seems to be very different.

The problem is can the OEM CD detect that it has already been used to install to PC 1 and thus only allow the following installations to occur on PC 1? Or it is just legal problem that 'one license key = one pc'?

It should be detected during activation. Once activated can't activate on another pc

In my case, the 2 vista I installed were in the SAME PHYSICAL computer. One working as Host and the other working as Guest (as virtual machine). Even then, I can't get the Guest activated (it was automatically locked out after 30 days).

So on 2 separate computer, you can forget about that.
