First of all, u need to know this is not fully manual. When u engage in manual mode, u get to play along ur so call virtual 7 speed gear. When ur rpm is higher than the gear spose to be, it will still automactically adjust ur virtual gear for u. U dun really get those kind of AMT or real gear as it's a CVT. FYI, new city aka 5G will have a fully manual transmission and no matter how high u rev ur rpm, it will maintain at ur desire gear. Too bad for 4G and below because of the virtual gear.
*
virtual huh? i hardly see the opint of giving us the option of this "not-fully-manual". is there a purpose to it? how would anyone use it and in what condition? you lost me with CVT but ill google that. so you are saying mine is 4g huh? when was 5g released, 2008 or 2009?

QUOTE(Shawnzz @ Aug 5 2009, 05:15 PM)
u mean if you floor the pedal, and its in manual mode the gear auto shift? .. its normal .
*
i see. so is there a way to quickly speed up on the highway? btw, i was on gear 5 at like 50kmph and thought it wasnt the right gear... well, it is called honda city after all...

err..i feel la, everytime i shift down, thinking it would go faster, i feel the pull back, like downshift in manual car... so usually i dont shift down, if im in manual mode, and im in 5thgear .. i just floor it till reach 6krpm then shift, Or mabe, if you are in 5th gear and your rpm is below 2, shift down would be good too.

Thats what i normaly do.

There are several types of transmission in Honda City 3G and 4G, however for below procedure - i will explain these in my personal point of view smile.gif

Direct to the point, I think if you need power, you should do the SPORT MANUAL MODE as below
1. Shift to S
2. Engage the 7 speed mode button (gear indicator will show up on dashboard)
3. hit downshift on your tiptronic (lower 1 gear) - (M will lights up on your dashboard, just beside the gear indicator)
4. REV! (and upshift when you feel the limit)

Of course, there are bulit in safety net that will automatically engage your gear up once your RPM reaches 6 or 7. That is to avoid stressing the gearbox too much (City uses Continuous Variable Transmission CVT, and heard it costs a bomb to replace, however there are some guys @ teamcity that's selling it for RM2 / 3K not sure including labour or not - i guess not!)

@ raymond, nice brakes. I'll consider it when it's time to change, it's worth the investment to spend for safety devices thumbup.gif

@neato4u,the gear box is selling at 2-3k price only? That's very cheap. Is it a used unit? I heard people said the new one selling from SC is at RM25k last time.

i thought at SC they trade in our damage part and we just need to pay some amount.. and not the full amount.. some mechanic at SC said Singapore Honda City CVT are better than malaysia.. dont know true or not.

Why they say so? CVT gear box should be the same for all City. sweat.gif SC will not accept trade in damage part,so far i don't hear any. With that amount of new gearbox, you might going to broke. moneyflies.gif

got a question here, why shift to S? dosnt S stand for Second, so basicly you are running on second gear?

S is standing for Sports mode. Second usually is numbered by "2" on gear mode.

dont know.. but that what the SC mechanic told me, he said there one case where some guy buy the CVT gear box from singapore and then replace his M'sia City gearbox. It done at JB. The result much better and smooth.. don't know how true the story are.

I don't believe that. He felt that is because he is using SGD to ship over the gear box. wink.gif

oh will try that. actually when i was on D, i clicked the "7 speed mode" and the "shift up + " buttons at the same time and the "M" lights up on my dashboard. so i wonder what's the difference between D and S when the "M" lights up. but ill try the S gear too someday.

so... uhh my city 2007 uses CVT? it's unlike the conventional automatic manual transmission huh? City 2009 uses AMT?
