technically, yes but depends on u r using which type of vista installer provided by ur dell. u can install the vista on ur HP. but that vista mayb will crash since the driver is for Dell system.

for activation of license key, if didnt activate ur vista on ur DELL, it is possible for u to activate.

I know there shouldn't be any prob if u still have the provided vista activation/serial no on ur dell laptop, coz ur just installing vista using the vista dvd supplied by dell and not trying to do a system recovery for a dell lappy..
My vista home premium is actually the original vista i got from buying a laptop from dell, i find it to run a bit sluggish on my laptop soo i just install xp on my lappy while the vista home premium i've installed it on my DIY custom rig..
I've installed and uninstalled it 2 times already n the 1st time it just easy activation thru the net and when i formatted and reinstall vista on my DIY rig for the 2nd time all i have to do is call up microsoft to get the activation key..
There's no difference in installation compared with a retail version just that when u open up system properties after installation there is a dell logo there tongue.gif

Legally, the Vista for your Dell is OEM version, so it is tied to your Dell notebook, and you are not supposed to install it on your new HP.

How to legalize it?
