QUOTE(kernah @ Sep 27 2008, 09:31 PM) noQUOTE Does foobar2000 sound better than other players? No. Most of “sound quality differences” people “hear” are placebo effect (at least with real music), as actual differences in produced sound data are below their noise floor (1 or 2 last bits in 16bit samples). foobar2000 has sound processing features such as software resampling or 24bit output on new high-end soundcards, but most of other mainstream players are capable of doing the same by now. http://www.foobar2000.org/FAQ.html#other_questions |

QUOTE(kernah @ Sep 27 2008, 09:31 PM) The heck? foobar uses low memory consumption plus it's heavy customization for those who prefer it. Winamp, however, has became slower when loading. Especially when there are many plugins. I'd rather use Windows Media Player 11 tho. The best library for music there is for me. |

I think it's largely depending on your computer processor, memory and sound card. Yes, Foobar may use lesser memory than Winamp but it may also require better processor if you use a low end sound card and various of plugins.
I'd rather use Winamp though since it has nice interface and good library management. This post has been edited by light bulb: Sep 28 2008, 08:50 PM |

sure foobar wins i using for 5 years edi
It just sound more amazing on my 5.1. After i add another plugin all my song becomes even clearer without me needed to spend 500-1000 worth sound card. This post has been edited by aspire2oo6: Sep 28 2008, 08:50 PM |

I use Winamp, mainly because its media library function is better than the one in foobar. Adding albums to an existing database is easier too in Winamp (incremental updates) than foobar (needs to rescan my whole watch folders, easily taking 30 minutes or so).

Do we need to have this argument at all? I mean I know there are still Winamp supporters out there who will support it to no end and there will be FB2k users who will bash back.
Owh BTW, am using FB2k but the older version since am not so sure about PanelsUI support on newer versions |

Since the introduction of 0.9.5 PanelsUI started to cause serious incompatibility issues and its development was ceased last year.Owh BTW, am using FB2k but the older version since am not so sure about PanelsUI support on newer versions And yeah, this kind of argument only brings fruitless outcome with each side of users supporting their own preferred players. Although i like how my Foobar2000 works very much and that i probably can't think of switching over to any other player in the near future, i won't stop my friends using Winamp/WMP11/TTplayer whatsover. It's your choice and it's completely up to you, although if you want, i can list many advantages straight away. |

Please also do not forget that depending on how many plugins you install on your foobar2000 and how many of them are enabled, the memory usage will vary. Heavy customization also means higher memory usage.
wen9x88 might be right. MP3s might have different sound volume, however you can use the 'ReplayGain' function in foobar2000 to normalize their volume. Just right click on the sound tracks and choose 'ReplayGain>Scan per-file track gain', after foobar2000 has gathered information, Click Update Tag. |

It just 'normalizes' them to have same level of volume output by determining how much dB has to be adjusted.i open same song in foobar and winamp. i only can hear the winamp, because more loud. some of the song like that only. The reason Winamp outputs louder sound may be due to different design of the programs, and foobar2000 can output less dB than Winamp at same percentage of volume level(not sure about this though). download this, extract into components folder
in DSP manager, add the following into Active DSPs: Noise sharpening (adjust around 60%) Advanced Limiter (need to be at the end of the chain) in Playback, adjust this. Replaygain > Source mode: album Processing > Apply gain and prevent clipping Preamp: With RG: ± 0.0 Without RG: -8.0 |

I use Winamp , Fooabar, TT Player (It's in chinese language) before
So far i like Foobar is because it customizable and plug-in But now i switch to TT Player due to it's automatic lyric download whenever a song play without lyric in it's TT Player database This post has been edited by EricCYL: Oct 17 2008, 10:39 PM |
