I ask on behalf of my bf, what skin fungus cream is good ?

I see him, everytime go to clinic & get the cream, it cost him RM 30.00 for A WEEK usage....

I just wonder, maybe can buy the cream from pharmancy, save money....

If u willing to go here go there, go Gov clinic just RM1 only.

there's a whole rack of cream for skin fungus @ d pharmacy...depending on the kind of skin disorder u can get from $10 for locally made to the 20+ from well known pharmaceutical company...RM30 for a week usage...dats kinda excessive...usually u only apply small amount on the infected area...

do you have the name of the drug? you can ask from the pharmacy

Daktacort is a pretty good one. Doctors prescribe this one but you can buy it at Guardian. Gotta go to the pharmacist in Guardian to get it though. Think it's about RM25-RM35 for a tube, don't really remember.

Just bear in mind, long term use of the steroid based ones may cause skin thinning, I experienced it personally.

one reason why docs dont give you the name of certain drugs is to prevent patients to recommend it to other patients.

sometimes, its not the same disease even though it looks alike.

nevertheless, patients have the right to know their treatment. One can always ask.

Canesten - Clotrimazole
Dermafin-Terbinafine
Kezoral-Ketoconazole
Lamisil-Terbinafine

Depends what kinda fungus prob he's having?
In general, ppl would go for miconazole (daktarin decozol...goes by many generic names).
ketoconazole (nizoral) is much more expensive compared to the regular antifungal.
if u wan something new school, lamisil (brand) is fantastic and expensive.

yet again rm30/week is ridiculous. never heard of it unless the infected site is large and u practically had to use the whole tube.....

and also different formulation, ingredients, brand do have different treatment regime, indication.

you wouldnt want to buy a antifungal cream for foot and use it on the face do you?

The doctor prescribe him like very small bottle, I think less than 8ml ... Even small bottle than my eye cream...

8 ml only, apply 2-3 times a day.... FInish already..

how long has your BF been applying the cream?
there's no point continue on the same medication as resistance can occurs very fast if it's not working.

hygiene, hygiene and hygiene again...
keep it dry...keep it dry ...keep it dry...

btw, where is the infected site?

I agreed with klifex's opinion


Fungus can be a long-term if you didn't keep the infected parts hygienic and most important must be dry

So relying on the medicine itself will not solve the problem

but sometimes even hygienic person 'accidentally' got infected by this kind of
disease..i will suggest to try something called 'ecocort'

got same problem also. doc give me a cream name candacort, just used few days and doesnt seem working on me.

what kind of fungal infection?

last time, back in 1997, i had psoriasis, scaly skin fungal infection

dermatologist specialist doc prescribed me to use

diprosalic

eumovate

The treatment would depend on the disease, and if you dont have a proper diagnosis, then you'll just be playing trial and error. Get a proper diagnosis first, then based on that the treatment would be so much easier. It's not as simple as fungus infection, or rash, or etc. LoL!

dont give wrong infomation!

psoriasis is not a fungal infection!

the creams you were 'using' were not antifungals!

TS: if you;re sure its fungal, then the currently best you can get is terbinafine(active ingredient) under the brand lamisil(not sure generics is out yet) which is an antifungal you use once a day. however its still quite expensive and if im right would work out about 30 odd bucks a tube, but the tube should be enough provided the area affected is small enough

if you want a cheaper solution/cant afford so much, then the next best antifungal would be 1 gen older stuff like miconazone or tonafate(again active ingredient) but these need to be applied more than once a day which might not be as practical for some people.

think u should go to d pharmacy, tok to d pharmacist about d skin condition..
cos there r so many types of fungal infection.. ringworm, etc..
d pharmacist will ask, like where is it occur (between toes, under d foot, etc), is it painful or itchy, etc?

then d pharmacist will haf a clearer idea of wat cream to prescribe to ur bf..

or better, if u can find out wat is d exact skin infection he has from d doc?
