hi guys, I am currently looking at either getting a used 5800 or HTC Dream. Haven't really seen any comparison between the 2 phones, so I would appreciate any advice. BTW I am looking for a phone primarily for watching movies, listening to music and browsing the web (i am also into modding stuff). I like the 5800, but the exterior is a real turn off (looks like a cheap china toy ) and I don't really like the responsiveness of the touchscreen (resistive instead of capacitive) and Symbian is not the most finger friendly OS. But the dedicated music controller, 3.5mm jack, headset which allows you to skip and control volume (not sure if HTC Dream has an aftermarket headset which does that) is a plus point for the 5800. And there seems to be more accessories for the 5800 (since more people are using it) This post has been edited by jags: Oct 12 2009, 08:32 AM

thanks for the short review Chris. Agreed, not really keen on the 5800 anymore after trying it out in real life. WTF was nokia thinking! Really horrible build quality. BTW how's the video playback performance of the G1? Is it smooth? I have also been doing some reading, and it seems that the G1 can't play divx/xvid encoded videos. Or can it? QUOTE(Chris25 @ Oct 12 2009, 12:41 PM) Added on October 12, 2009, 12:58 pmG1 is the most fun and functional phone i have ever used...and ive been around. Its v good for movies as i use it for my in-flight entertainment. The 3gp files play ok. mp4 vids are better, clearer, but take up more space., hence i do need a mini sd w bigger storage. I had a 5800 before..didnt get me off at all. After owning a G1 for 3 months or so, i can honestly say there isnt anything any phone on the market can do that the g1 cant match or do better.
