QUOTE(lek_e30 @ Mar 25 2009, 11:52 PM) actually i'm more into white!!!! sure buy 1 Yeah lor... white glossy is very nice. Somemore its not prone to finger prints (I mean not so noticeable). Actually there's a minor improvement done on the G1. It had its 4 keys and touch button re-arranged in larger buttons. Pretty slick I would say.

QUOTE(lek_e30 @ Mar 26 2009, 11:07 AM) you mean the white one not same as black one?? The white one available for T-Mobile is the same one. However, there's one available in another telco in Europe and it has the so called 'face-lift' for both the black and white version. I don't think it'll reach here. White is better too cause it has no 'creaks' like the blacks we're using now.

And since our Android's web-browser is based on Webkit. I wonder how will it take to add full support for Flash and JAVA? Kekekeke... it'll definitely be very exciting. Now I really hope Google will add turn by turn navigation for its Maps application. Its map is already complete or should I say the best available for G1 users at the moment. Adding turn by turn will be great. It now has routing but its static navigation and requires user input. Imagine this on Latitude... Find Grazy ( ) and it'll show the directions all the way to him.

QUOTE(grazy @ Mar 26 2009, 03:08 PM) Oh!!! That would be one of the cool maps feature that we all want to have!! ^^; Google seems keep on porting Latitude to other OS, making it the next social networking tool, i think There are many news saying Flashlite is coming to Android, but all are rumor. The latest one is here. Don't even mention when the final product will be available also. really kill joy. Confirm can work one... cause Webkit can support it mah. Its just the matter of licensing issues. Or maybe Google has bigger ambitions which is to integrate Flash directly into the shell of Android. Then we'll have more choices of great themes, games, etc.

QUOTE(lek_e30 @ Mar 26 2009, 11:29 PM) ehm.. may i know wat is that?? Its Flash Lite and it allows your browser to display all the visual contents available. Currently it cannot support Flash so some fancy websites will not work. There won't be animations, interfaces and etc. Some people call it (Flash/Java) the Web 2.0. Our browser is incomplete now without Flash and Java support.

QUOTE(grazy @ Mar 27 2009, 09:49 AM) Jorry...jorry!! May bad! Corrected. Keep on thinking(comparing) of Magic I suggest to call Singtel and find out who/where they are sending thier Dream get serviced! ^^; Just pretend you are their customer loh. There is a HTC service centre at Keppel Bay Tower, may be can give them a buzz also. Magic's OS visual transition also better. But I'm pretty sure they will do the same for Dream. Hopefully we'll get these eye candies in time for April 2009 update.

QUOTE(schrodinger_cat @ Mar 27 2009, 04:13 PM) How much did u get ur HTC dream then? Sorry, if there's any problem with the phone, have to go to SGP to repair??? Gosh. Wait....does it mean this phone isnt available in Malaysia (yet)? I was going to go Lowyat and do a survey. lol! Well in short, the HTC Dream isn't supposed to be sold in Malaysia or Google/HTC has no plans to introduce this phone in Malaysia. For your information the Android project has spawned the HTC Dream and it was a collaboration between Google (who is responsible for the architecture and the Android OS), HTC (who is responsible for the hardware and design) and T-Mobile (who is responsible to distribute and market the product to its large user base). So it has many names. HTC called it Dream, Google called it Google G1 aka Google Phone while T-Mobile simply call it T-Mobile G1. The phone is only sold exclusively to T-Mobile in the North American Region and some parts of Europe via Vodaphone. Singtel also managed to get exclusivity for distribution in Singapore. No words in Malaysia yet. So what you see in Low Yat are actually grey imports. These are not even AP phones because of the luke warm response in the demand. Because of this, risks are high and no AP companies is willing to support it or provide warranty. Some shops do provide courtesy to support it for 12 months but its only software support. However, simple things like speaker/earpiece and flex-cable replacements can be performed. Dismantling the phone will be a hit and miss thing. Basically its a gamble. But the good news is, most of the T-Mobile G1 have great built quality so if your set has no problem it will unlikely develop problems in the long term. HTC devices are pretty good (so far in my experience).

QUOTE(schrodinger_cat @ Mar 27 2009, 07:32 PM) Haha, well, I'm actually thinking of changing my phone. Priority is to have a damn good navigation. Well, since getting a new phone, y not getting a good one n use it for long? Hence i'm thinking of HTC Dream. But, I really wanted to know more bout its GPS navigation....is it good in term of price? user friendliness? map viewing? etc.... Well if your priority is an extremely good navigation, then HTC Dream is definitely not the phone to get. There's nothing wrong with its hardware capability. In fact, it houses the MSM7201A chipset which has the GPSOne integrated (not the best, but definitely no slouch) and it has a DIGITAL COMPASS!!! No many phones have this where it can pin point your directions and even pitch. What's limiting its capability is the availability of software applications. The Google Maps is complete but it currently does not support turn-by-turn navigation and speech capability. However it does feature routing and static navigation (not enough if you wish to drive with it). These feature will come sooner or later but the questions is when and how soon. I would say with the current state of things, the HTC Dream is good for pedestrian navigation, not driving. I'm sure companies like Garmin will enter Android soon but it depends on how matured is the platform like how large is the userbase and so on. If you want a phone complete with good navigation you will have consider Symbian and WinMo. Currently we have Garmin and Mapking applications on those OSes and the Malsingmaps are pretty good on them.

QUOTE(grazy @ Mar 29 2009, 07:04 PM) Too bad ^^, for the Dream warranty issue, the nearest country you may get is from SG-Singtel, period. Actually it is not a big deal lah! Scenario is similar to those buyers getting their Singtel iPhone Kasihan us (G1 user) , bought at our own risk. So have to make sure that the hardware works before paying up. The software however can be fixed. Just a matter of time of learning the software tricks. I believe software/firmware related issues are easier to manage because you'll get it fixed sooner or later. Grazy is right because the risks involved aren't higher than buying an iPhone from other than Maxis. Some iPhone 2G users ran into capacitive touchscreen problems (portions of screen dead) and they had nowhere to turn to. Problem is that you can't get people to fix it even if you want to pay for it. Lucky, we got Singapore just next door. Can pay a trip down to get it fixed. Or we can just call it a day and another excuse for something new.

QUOTE(grazy @ Apr 6 2009, 08:39 AM) Ho..Ho...now the famous symbian-freak.com also want to test out Android G1 for two weeks ^^; Think Android is tempting heh Yes it is very tempting. I've been a loyal fan of Symbian but I got bored with its UI and decided to look elsewhere. Windows Mobile interface shell looks like a gimmick with many manufacturers putting a mask on top of an otherwise dull-non-touch-friendly interface. Blackberry sounds promising but its the same dull interface below it. Palm Pre is nice but not available. So G1 all the way!

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Apr 7 2009, 10:46 AM) meaning google OS better but iphone's body is better..right? btw, how much is it? g1 You can say that. In fact, any recent phone design will be better than the G1. BUT the G1's design is more functional. I like the slide-out display where the keyboard is revealed. Of course, a lot of people criticized on the angled 'chin'. Thats functional too because if the G1 was to be placed face down, the chin will prevent the ball pointer from touching. Yes its boring but it is OS is what we're pursuing. The Magic will be better in terms of design. This is all for a good start. We've already seen announcements from many manufacturers adopting Android recently. Lets hope they will contribute more beautiful phones. Oh by the way, the price for Dream is around RM1800-2000. Scout around Low Yat or the Garage Sale section. This post has been edited by davidmak: Apr 7 2009, 12:58 PM

Grazy's problems are expected because it was a direct port from Magic. Remains to be seen when Cupcake G1-version is made available. I guess most of us will be happier. Hehehe... Lets hope Cupcake is not half-baked

I learn that Google has released a new version of gmail app for Android and iPhone. Does it mean it is already available or is coming soon? Anyone already got the update or our JF firmware is unable to detect it?

QUOTE(lek_e30 @ Apr 13 2009, 12:09 AM) my G1 auto restart twice yesterday.... dunno wat happen.... guys who using maxis!!! this week did you guys encounter network problem?? like to data signal...weak signal....etc?? Yes! Maxis network problem I suspect. Sometimes the reception is max bars and suddenly it'll go to 2 bars and to a point no service at all. I initially suspect this to the Radio ROM performance which can be buggy. Then I verify this by using my SE C905 for 2 days and I see the same thing on it too. Anyway the Radio ROM is also the culprit. I realize if I am in a spot where reception quality is so so (2 bars), turning the WIFI on and do a scan will sometimes cause GSM to loose service connection. Bluetooth however does not cause this problem. The reason I say this is because both the WIFI and Bluetooth uses the same radio band of 2.4GHz. They both use the same antenna and alternates between both when WIFI and Bluetooth is activated at the same time (FCC restrictions).

QUOTE(lost123 @ May 1 2009, 12:27 AM) hey, anyone noes where i can go test this fone out??? i wanna go play with it first.. Thats a bit tough as most shops don't carry them unless its a large-size AP company. These are also non-available stocks and had to be pulled from their 'warehouse' (assuming you're talking about Lowyat). So you have to confirm order for them to take it out otherwise its not really 'nice' trouble them to get it and then not buy it in the end. Well, some customers don't mind though hehehe... Probably the best way is to find a friend who's a handphone freak. Probably he may be owning one already.
