As an alternative instead of Malsingmaps(locked)

The current v1.xx release has very detailed coverage of Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. They will try to update N Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Singapore.

Good introduction to LYN members. I just get to know malfreemaps from this thread, rather than malsingmaps which I don't visit that often.

As for MapSource, I recommend using 6.13.7 as 6.14.1 is redrawing map at snail pace. Also, create registry entries for setting preferences so that you can have the best experience exploring map for the first time. You can (or should) import this registry file before installing MapSource.

I also recommend using MapSource 6.13.7.
Garmin officially provides a MapSource version update download, which will only work if there is previous version of MapSource installed. If no MapSource software is detected, the MapSource update setup will abort with error message saying that it cannot find previous version of MapSource. Follow the following trick to hack the setup file so that it can be used to install MapSource clean and fresh without any prior installation of MapSource:
# Unpack or extract the content of MapSource_6.13.7.exe
using WinRAR.
# From the extracted files, run MAIN.msi.
# Then, run Setup.exe.
Note: The sequence to execute Main.msi and then Setup.exe is important to avoid “Previous MapSource not found!” error.
or
Install first Garmin Training Center For Windows software version 3.4.3
then MapSource 6.13.7
Install at least one map otherwise mapsource will complain and not run,uninstall Garmin Training Center

v1.21 is a fix of v1.20's address search errors. v1.21 also included polygons from bro Sabelt and Pajero which missed the previous release.

MFM-Lite is essentially the same as the normal map, only without the extras. It does not have detailed colored polygons and road name POIs. It is already made into Garmin IMG format. You only need to unzip and copy into your device.

My friend bought a china brand GPS last few day. its preloaded with igo map software which outdated and difficult in searching an destination. can he download this malsing software for instead? need to remove old software or just install the new malsing map only. what should he do step by step. thanks in advance for helping.

A lot of explanation is on the beggining of this thread.If is IGO map useless,remove from SD card.
Install free map on your computer,on the end will ask you to make "gmapsupp" file.Press"yes"and copy "gmapsupp.img" to your SD card.

After downloaded the malsing map but its cannot work. Do you have free mapking software?? mapking map software has been confirmed can work in my friend GPS.

Download MFM-SRTM.exe and install the map files into the folder where you have installed your MFM routable mapset. Our default folder is C:\Garmin\Malfreemaps. At the end of the installation, use the MFMTopo program to add the topo maps into your gmapsupp.img

COMBINING WITH MFM ROAD MAP
MFM-SRTM Map is designed to complement MFM's routable road maps. To view topo contours together with MFM main maps, install MFM v1.30 or later first. When you install MFM-SRTM, select "Add-on to MFM main mapset" as installation type.
