I have this SONY MEX-R1 DVD player. I notice if i removed the batteries or did not start the car for few days, the Player will loose all it's custom setup memory, including radio stations, equalizer setup & time. It still remember it's factory default equalizer settings though.

Just like to know is it normal for players not to have some sort of internal batteries to store these data? I'm kinda tired having setting everything up so often.

possibility your car battery times out. If happen to me few days back, then replace a brand new car battery everything backs to normal.

When your battery is weak, when start your car which absorb the power leading to low voltage (not enough for HU to keep memory intact)

Don't any of the HU comes with internal batteries just to preserve these settings? Like Watch battery? No?

It's such a hassle going tru all those menus...

the player is still running on a lil bit electricity when u didnt start ur car... this is to maintain all your memory inside...

so if u take up your batery , is normal tat u need to reset...

2) i dun think your battery weak until the memory lost.. if tat happen, i dun think u able to start your car also... all i can think of is probably ur HU got problem, or the wiring to your HU got problem....

What if i took the front cover part of the player out, will the player still loose the memory?

I though electronics nowadays uses transistors for memory like computers? No?

The player doesnt have storage ler....only factory default that is the unchangable ROM.
If u want a changable ROM it will costs alot more.

That is becoz the front part only handles the tuning/calibration/watever u call it...the memory is in the player.

What about Units with harddrives in it? Will they store them in the harddrive thus not using power?

Meaning those player with somesort of memory to store music, some come with something like flash memory and some comes with Harddisk like i-Pod, would these players remember the custom settings even if battery is unplugged?

Is rare that headunit comes with eprom memory chip. Isn't good you could reset all your setting wha ruin your setup by removing the battery or shut down the headunit. Even pioneer deh p6050ub comes with reset button to reset the microprocessor.
