Hi pals,

I got a problem here where my Xbox 1st Gen got this error "12 Service required. Call customer support".
My bro was playing Ninja Gaiden Black that time and suddenly he complained laggy and stuck then after that hang. I reboot the xbox and got that error. I even cannot eject DVD out so I manually open the case and take it out.
Please all sifu sifu, guru guru help me. I can't losing my xbox now. Nobody can fix my xbox in my hometown here penang/ipoh.

Looks like your either your IDE cable is faulty or most probably the dvd drive has finally died you need to replace it.

If my dvd drive is faulty, where to find the dvd drive replacement?
I noticed that the power connector of the dvd drive is different than our normal PC dvd rom's which is smaller type.
Please advice.

its hard nowdays to search for the xbox spare parts...unless u buy 2nd hand once...at garage sale..or u can ask around the cost to repair the first gen xbox.

Sounds like HDD kong. Try to re-install a new HDD and see. It's very easy to replace the HDD.

to check you can try taking a normal pc-dvd rom drive set to jumper to slave mode.
then plug in the IDE cable and use a Y-splitter power cable from the hdd to power the pc-dvd rom.
if it can boot up then your hdd is ok, but you will still have to look for a xbox dvd drive replacement.

i replaced my dead xbox drive with a pc-dvd rom because as mentioned, its very hard to find a replacement xbox dvd drive and too expensive to order from overseas(maybe used also), but with a pc-dvd rom you have to do some soldering, make some modifications to fit and you cannot play original xbox discs.

Oh i see..problem is I am not staying at KL right now..my location is at Ipoh and Penang..sadly I already ask around some local shop here but nobody can repair it.

hrrmm..if HDD kong, i should be able to eject out disc right? Now I even cannot eject anything, the button got flashing red and green light..only can see error 12 on TV screen.

looks like I should try this method when I got the xbox on my hand.
May I ask if replacing the HDD also straight forward like replacing the pc-dvd rom?

same problem for me in penang also, no shop reparing xbox so i decided to repair it myself.
if replacing the hdd you need to clone the hdd with some software tools.

Is it now your disc stuck in the drive? If that's the case, just open up your XBOX and disconnect the drive and see whether it boots from the HDD.

Changing HDD is very easy. I replaced my default drive with a 80GB drive. But i can't quite remember procedure to do it already...LOL.

Roughly:
1) XBOX and PC connect to switch.
2) Boot up with EVOX (Evolution X) on XBOX.
3) Setup the IP address.
4) Use a software like FLASHFXP to transfer all the files over to ur PC.
5) Replace XBOX HDD.
6) Boot from EVOX disc (u must have a bootable EVOX disc prior to this).
7) Format the new drive using EVOX, it'll create back all the compulsory partition. Create extra partition if necessary as per ur original HDD.
8) Use FLASHFXP to transfer the files back and any additional partitions as per ur original HDD.

I might miss some steps in between...
