Rm 500 per month. 3 months for beginner level and 3 months more for the battle level.

hmm.gif so it works out to rm3k for a 6month course? how many hours of class a month? have you finished all 6 months?

speaking of this, for a noob who wants to get started DJing, would it make more sense to spend 3k on a proper course, or use the money to buy your first gear setup and learn yourself? (3k can get a pair of used 1200s and a pretty nice mixer rite?) both options have advantages. quite a hard choice if you ask me.

personally, this is what I think.

1. You sign up for a course, so you learn and benefit from the veteran that is teaching you ; and of course, if you so happen to only have money for a course that particular time. It will mean that you can't get your own gear so you have to go to the studio and use the gears provided. Means you have to be super free to always hang out there, like some of my friends in my tutor's place did. One of them went there everyday. And of course the gears will no doubt be quite high-end. I learned how to mix on a pair of CDJ800s with the DJM600. That easily costs more than 3k.

2. Whereas, you get your own gear. It will be intimidating, and watching video tutorials can be quite pace-breaking. As you see the person in the video trying his best to explain and then show it to you. Whereas in a live 1on1 session you can start throwing questions, and there will be a live feedback from you tutor. But either way, it always feels good to have your own gear. Granted it won't be the top of the line, but! everyone starts somewhere.

I'd hate to really recommend either one, 'cause both of them have certain advantages like you've mentioned earlier.

yea man. but to me a further advantage of going to a proper course is the connections you'll be able to build. more often than not (in malaysia at least), the people offering these DJ courses are among the top in the country (fuzz, uno, t-bone etc) perhaps this applies specifically to hiphop, as i'm not to inclined on other genres. so imagine if you are among these DJ's apprentice, you'll be connected to the industry and this can only help bring you more opportunities (be it gigs, club contracts, sponsorship etc). in local terms your cable will be very big la. downside is you wont have your own set to practice at home with, and that can be a problem as well.

i suppose the best option is if you got the green, then get your own set and enroll yourself in an academy. if you had to choose one, then it depends on whether you wanna take DJing seriously or just wanna be a bedroom jock.

@carsonoel: there is a DJ school in SS15 blink.gif ? where exactly and how much they charged you?

*added: not too long ago someone was selling 1 sl1200 + 1 iforgotwhat mixer for rm1000 at garage sales. does anyone know where that thread went? cant seem to find it.

hey guys, i'm a newb at the DJing scene, currently taking lessons from DJ Tupac of the Kartel crew. I was thinking of getting myself the CDJ1000Mk3 and the DJM400 as my starter set. Does anyone know where I can find a dealer in KL? Before that, which is a recommendable pair of headphones? Whats the price tag on all of the items above? thx.
*
hey man do you take classes with the hitmen? mind telling me how much kartel charges? you take your lessons at the d'sara studio?

i don't really take classes from the hitmen themselves, or at their studio of that matter. DJ Tupac teaches on his own basis, with his own method. i don't know how much kartel charges, but i will get back to you asap. you interested?
*
oh ok so this is just he's own personal classes? well, i'd like to know the rates they charge first. want to compare with the other dj schools. cool.gif

soundproof your room. cushion those walls. if want cheaper material, use egg cartons..
