its too oily for ur hamster. if u want to feed chicken, then make sure its boiled, no extra flavours/oils/salt/etc

btw, just a thought. If i had roasted chicken bones (no meat) can give it for a chew toy?
*

* i dono y he don like the hamster food, include melod seeds since he was small... sweat.gif

ya, i do bought chew toy for them, haih, but they still prefer biting the house.. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Vannssny,

Better stop feeding your hammy human food. It's not good for the hammy in the long run. Your hammy can get sick and die from too much oil, salt, etc from the human food...

Better feed him Prestige or Harry Hamster. Also fresh vegetables and smoothie if possible.
*
sweat.gif he don like Prestige or Harry Hamster etc, if i put in their house, no1 going to touch.. zzz..
but everyday do place vege in their house, they love cauliflower, corn and broccoli laugh.gif laugh.gif

btw, hamster life is vy short, so i will let them enjoy the human food if they like it.. drool.gif drool.gif
if they don like, u force them, they also will not eat, they jz go away... rclxm9.gif

Yes hamster have short lifespan about 2-3 years. But what you are doing are shortening their lifespan even more!

Why don't you let them live a healthy 2-3 years instead letting them live sickly from the food you fed them with. For how long will they live? 1 year or less?

If you just leave the prestige or harry hamster in the tank, they will eat it when their favorites are gone. This is not forcing them but let them learn there is food for them.

How do you expect them to have a balance diet from just cauliflower, corn, broccoli and the human food?

What you are doing is irresponsible as a pet owner shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif
*
tongue.gif yes he is vy healthy, and now oredy 2 years old, not 1 year or less that u mention...
although he ate a lot tasty human food, but he more healthy than his sibling who less eat human food. (i am not saying that eat human food is good for them) different hamster stay in different environment. of cos not feeding the poison to them, jz let them eat what they like.
he love to eat, vy vy love to eat, if i take away their favorites, they appetite will be less, and they sure will be bored. i prefer to c them stay wih good and happy mood. sweat.gif sweat.gif

like human, many food also not healthy, eg fast food.. but many ppl oso love fast food although they knw is not healthy,
but different ppl different thinking, some only eat healthy food, some would prefer enjoy they life.

and i just mention they favorite vege are cauliflower, corn, broccoli , of coz i gv more other than these.. doh.gif

i breed this hamster since they was born 2 years ago, i understand wat they want and they behaviour. laugh.gif i knw what he likes, am i a responsible owner or not, i knw myself, every hamster is not the same, blush.gif but 3rd party that dono about it cant simply gv comment on it...

agreed. Its like you giving your children coke, fast food, junk food, cheap milk etc their whole life. Would you do that?
*
doh.gif of coz the main food or main meal will be vege for them.. i place it 24 hours...
human food is just a extra snack for them... 1 or 2 time a week..
i do not put human food in the cage, it make the cage dirty. i just bring them out and eat if they wants.. tongue.gif

@vanssny: Actually human food, even for us, is unhealthy. those store bought chicken rice? It's oily and fattening. Has not enough vitamins we need. Yet we eat it. Same goes with a lot of other human food.

And really think about it, if hams live in the wild, you think they got privilege to eat those chicken rice? It's an unnatural diet. smile.gif The best way to keep a pet is to mimic their wild conditions as much as we can. So this includes raw vegetables, fruits, various nuts, occasionally insects or a bit of a dead animal. Rodents are sorta a opportunist after all.

So we are advising you to give your ham what he will get in the wild. It doesn't include human food. Feeding dogs human food give them bad breath. Giving hams human food must give other negative effects you're not aware of. Your ham might look chubby but it could be obese from all the oil it's taking. Their body is not designed to take all that oil, sal and sugar and so they will not be able to digest it fully.
*
nod.gif even human food is unhealthy for us. but for my point of view blush.gif , hamster only eat hamster food is same wif human eating healthy food (vege and fruit) cry.gif no hokkien mee, no laksa, no tom yam, not char koay tiao, no chicken rice , no mcd, no pizza, no kfc, no curry mee, no bak kut teh and so on... doh.gif
it is so cham... sweat.gif

if live in the wild, they sure will not go eat the chicken.. they don have the ability to hunt any other animal.., if they go then will only be hunting by other.. brows.gif

but i am not feeding them chicken every day. i put vege to them, but mrg extra feed bread, hi5 or other (plain bread) then at night when ppl at home will feed rice to them. they love rice(plain rice). laugh.gif

but 1 week 1 or 2 times will buy outside food or fast food. then will bring them out and feed them if they wan. if they love it, i jz let them eat, no limit or control them drool.gif

But rice is glutinous. Their main diet should be fruits, vege and nuts. As the doctor says, things that are nice to eat are often bad good for our health.

Despite that, vegetarians find their menu and their life enjoyable. At the end when they're older, they will have less pains and diseases than those who take meat and other not-so-good food. They usually have longer lives too.

And to take everything in moderation is a good moral. you cannot let a child eat all the junk food as much as they want like chocolates, sweets and snacks they like. they will not stop and they will not know when too much is bad for them. Our pets are like our children. because they don't know what's good for them, WE as their owners and people who care for them must monitor the food they eat so they will get all the beneficial vitamins and minerals. It is our duty.

Plain rice, I'm assuming you mean white rice. Do you know white rice has portions of sweetness in it? Too much may cause your ham to become obese. This is why diabetics eat brown rice, not white rice.

And rice is rich in carbohydrate. Your ham is not designed to take so much carbohydrate. what carbohydrate that is not used becomes fat. But hams have no need to store fat for winter. So it becomes useless. And the excess fat will make them obese. A string of other diseases follow obesity. So before your ham dies, it will suffer because you spoiled it too much. It will become your fault.

sad.gif We don't have to tell you how bad all those food are for your ham. that ham is yours and nothing to do with us. But I am worried about your ham's health and if it died painfully, you will suffer in guilt. Please consider what's good for your ham in long term, not just what your ham enjoys now. Your ham's entire health and life depends on how you control its diet. If you really love it you will control its diet for its sake.

sweat.gif i am sure know that the things that are nice to eat are often bad good for our health. but hamster usually is eat, sleep and play. we cant gv more to them. so jz let them eat more yummy thing. but not drug or wat.. blush.gif furthermore i am not giving it as main food, that just a snack for them. they knw to choose what they like to eat or what they don like. if take chili for them , they sure don wan.. yes i love it, but the way i love may not be the same. everybody not the same. eg study is good, but a son dislike to study, but the mom keep forced the son to study, it might make the situation more worst..
as i said, if the hamster love it, i will let them it. cant force them eat at all... sweat.gif

althought many ppl knw the yummy food is not tat good, but many ppl still go for it, as they prefer to enjoy it..
Why don't a smoker quit smoking when they know it is bad for their health? eating is also an addiction for many people.. human can enjoy yummy food y hamster cant enjoy it.. doh.gif as i said, if the hamster love it, i will let them it. if they don like to eat and walk away, i cant force them eat at all... sweat.gif

i knw gv too much human food is not good. tats y their main mean is vege and fruit. the snack is to cheer them up. smile.gif

I think that it would be best that you keep this to yourself. Please don't misled other people especially newbie pet owners from doing the same thing you're doing. The information you give is incorrect eventhough others have adviced otherwise yet you insist on doing so.

FYI - Smokers can't quit because they are already addicted to smoking eventhough knowing that it is bad for their health. Also secondhand smoke is more dangerous to others' health than firsthand smoke.

I wish your hammy all the best and good luck icon_rolleyes.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

let's stop it.. it is hard for others to receive opinion, what is supposed to say is already said. It is up to individual if they wanna listen/believe or not. It is common sense that human food is not healthy for pets. Just pray hard for the unlucky hamsters, and new owners, please stick to good hamster food + fresh veges n fruits for your hamster.

Let's get back to our hamster talk.

yes.. i am also stop ady, but i don think my hamster is unlucky. thanks lo...
