anyone here using hay cakes? What do hamsters really do with it? Trim their teeth or eat it as a snack?

ahhh, due to my nottiness...i wake up my hamster....try to play with them...i got a big nice bite on the finger...

btw, if they got enuff sleep n awake...then i play with them normally won't bite right?

They do but wether or not your ham wants to eat them is another story.

hi everyone, I'm new here.
I have a set of robos, 3months old that has never been toilet trained.
In the first few months, I did not buy bathing sand for them cos there's this worker in the pet shop that said bathing sands shorten the hamsters lives so I shouldn't use bathing sand. So, all I did was just change the bedding frequently.

However, I noticed that my hamsters begin to smell and they scratch themselves a lot. Their fur is also a little oily.
I don't know what to do. Is the bathing sand thingy a myth? Should I use bathing sand ? How do I toilet train them at this age ? 

My cuties are stinkies !

Me thinks shopkeeper meant water bath, because the stress can cause some weaker hamsters to kaput sooner.
and if not dried properly can get pneumonia.

Not to mention the danger of drowning.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the helpful information. I'll get sand for them asap. Don't want to see them scratching anymore. Btw, is there any method to bathe them in the sand? The hamsters know...what to do?

Which is why water bath is completely last resort and only when truly needed.

U said syrian hamster cant put in a same cage..
u said it will fight with each other till death........  
but my hamster looks healthy everyday....
they play with each other .....so cute

I would like to ask if we doesn't help the syrian to bath , how will the smell like ?
I know poo must clean but if it's toilet train , it'll be easy to take care of. 

Oh yea , I would like to ask how much will be Harry Hamster food and Celect bedding? They come in a varities of how many kgs ? 

I scare I bought wrong type of breed , is they any link for me to understand their body features more ?

anyway what kind of bedding u guys normally use ? and what brand is recommended ?
