QUOTE(Sophiera @ Sep 22 2008, 12:54 AM) Congrats. But mana Fluff? Two places better than one....need directions to that place too for those who live nearby. Guys, chipsi apple is made from PINE. Which is bad for your hamsters. It affects their respiratory system cuz of something that pine bedding releases over time. |

@psycho: If they are different genders, do separate as soon as possible ok? Cuz when they reach breeding age, they will breed with any partner, each other included. Inbreeding is really bad...
@jovyn: So cute! They look almost identical! But the fur looks a little greasy. You got give them bathing sand? |

Eh... If the male and female are from the same shop then the likelihood that they are siblings is high. Then if they breed, they will be inbreeding.
Inbreeding has the same meaning as incest to humans by the way. And the babies produced are less healthy and more prone to diseases and sickness. And of course 1 male and 1 female means they'll breed non stop since hams can mate right after giving birth. |

@Sangels: Haha... The staff thought my siggy was too long so I have to omit. I also have other pets that never made it into my siggy so I write down lor. They are still very healthy and chubby plus very much alive.
@ifrits: Yes please separate. Shops don't know much about inbreeding. All they know is, 1 male + 1 female = lots of babies = more money from selling them. Inbreeding is really bad and even sad in a lot of cases so please avoid. |

Why do you think it's pregnant?
Anyway, improve food portions as your hammie advances in pregnancy. Also give more protein food and lotsa fresh for good baby development. I always give hard boiled egg white for my pregnant hammies. |

For starters, what breed are your hamsters?
Males should be removed before your female give birth because they can mate again right after your female gives birth. Syrians have gestation periods of 16 days while dwarves have about 18-21 days. Give and take a little. Calculations aren't always accurate. |

And what breed of dwarf? Only robos are good together. Plus you have to separate the babies by sex anyway if you want to avoid inbreeding. Best way is to get a cage, and separate them kelantanese style once the babies are mature enough. As in 1 cage males 1 cages female. |

Eh... It looks like robos.
Please separate anyway. 1 cage 1 sex ok? And your balding robo is looking qquite... unnatural. What dry food are you feeding her? |

I see brown and black plus white eye brows. I think it's robos. Yah, one from the front will be nice.
Why do you give human cereal? You shouldn't give human food to your animals. |

QUOTE(ballista10 @ Oct 9 2008, 07:32 PM) i've heard that mating can cause the hamster lose its life span.. is it true? if true, will it occur to the female only or the male as well? Well I'm not so sure about males but it definitely occurs to females. When a living being is pregnant, many nutrients and necessities are taken from the mum's body and given to the baby. This is why the mum has to be taking the correct nutrients while the baby is growing and taking from her inside her. So imagine, a hamster gives birth to the average of 6 babies. Can imagine how much nutrient is lost? Then imagine that the energy needed to give birth to all the babies, then mating immediately after that, and continuously go on to the next batch of babies who take nutrients from inside you. A healthy mum gives birth to healthy babies. She can't be healthy if she's continuously pregnant, her babies always taking from her. Her body won't have time to recover from the first pregnancy. The lack of nutrients may also prompt the mother to eat her pups after she gives birth. If she lives she will be able to give birth again. If she dies so will the babies. So the babies are sacrificed. |

Andy, don't give too much sunflower seeds. It may look cute for him to eat it but other food which is healthier also can ma. Sunflower is so fattening.
I think you check your Muffin first. If the fur looks sweaty and oily means the ventilation is bad. Otherwise, it's fine lo. Which post which post? So many previous post. BTW where you get your Muffin from? |

Haha... Well, just a common habitrail cage with shavings, a chew toy each, bottles, wheels, 2 bowls for dry food and smoothie, toilet paper roll, toilet with toilet sand. They used to have tubes with attachments but they hardly use it.
