Well, the best brands of food for hamsters would be Prestige and Harry Hamster. The OVO comes with a bottle and wheel. So far the OVO loft is good, as it is 2ft in length, suitable for a Syrian. The normal OVO suite is small, a bit too cramp for a syrian and ventilation is bad. The OVO loft has better ventilation.
Money loh.... all is about business.

It was not easy to feed those 2, had to use syringe and pets own lactose milk. But then they grew up super tame coz 1st thing they see when open eyes is me and they know my voice and smell.
*
I guess I'll be getting the Ovo Loft then.
Since they say Syrians is the easiest to toilet tame them , do I need to buy additional units like those curve or tower as a toilet to them ?

Did the milk contain melamine ? laugh.gif

If I get the OVO loft , all I need is Harry Hamster food.
What else about the bedding ? Which one is good ? 2nd cut hay ?

Besides that , What's the sand bath for ? I saw it today when I browsing through the pet's shop for Dog can food. biggrin.gif
Syrians normally cost how much one yea ?

I got one more question , does that mean basically all the hamster in pets shop is either this few breeds ?
Syrians , Robovoroski , WW ?

How to pronounce Syrians yea ? Quai-ians ?

I think you'd be better off getting a 2-feet tank. Although OVOs are gorgeous, they are hard to clean and its very hard to see the hamsters in there..  Speaking from experience here.  tongue.gif
*
Since Ovo Suite has bend parts alot I guess it'll hard to clean then.
But Ovo loft is just a normal 2ft case , I guess it'll be better right ?

Anyone can answer my below question ?

Ovo Loft is about RM200+. You sure you want to get that? You can get a zoozone2 (3 feet) for RM140 if you can still find it as it is no longer in production. Waiting for new zoozone models now. Get a 2 feet guppy tank for RM30-50. Easier to take care of.

You can get Harry Hamster or Prestige Hamster for their food. Bedding you can try corncob, breeder celect, back 2 nature, or chipsi (can't remember which suitable for small animals). All on the 1st page.

Sand bath is for hamster to bathe in to get rid of the extra oil and smell. Depends on which breed of hamsters will need sand bath.

You don't feed can dog food to hamster. It's the kibbles. Search for those without garlic in the ingredients. Pedigree are low quality brands. I think crazymouse got mentions some brands to get in the last reply. Please read.

The price of syrians? It depends on pet shops. From RM10-30. Yes only these few breeds in petshops. Syrians, WW, robos and RC.

It's seer-ee-uhn from dictionary.com. Can listen there on how to pronounce.

Some hamsters will eat the sand to replenish minerals in their body. So it is safe.

But remember not get those clumping kind as it the chemicals for clumping is bad for them in the long run.

Added on September 29, 2008, 11:32 am

Syrians don't roll in the sand bath. That is why we pour some sand bath on their backs and they will shake it off.

I think those that roll in the sand bath is robos. Not sure about RC and WW though.
*
Thank you for your prompt and informative reply.
I always heard people say that Pedigree are no good and low quality brand but If it's really that bad , then consumers will report them and why will pedigree still on it's foot for so long already ? In my Opinion , it should be their profit margin is low compare to others brand. Not sure though.

So that's what I need to get right ?
Gotta check my buy-list :
1) Ovo loft
2) Harry Hamster
3) Breeder celect
4) Syrians.

And most important , love right ? biggrin.gif

Is the Sand bath thing a must to buy ? I saw that there's one house to put the hamster and sand bath them , what's that for ?

its great how u make your research before getting a hamster.

syrians dont need sand bath. Ovo might be a bit hard to clean and can be a bit hot for your hamster
*
I dont want sacrifice those tiny little soul , I must get everything right.

I thought all hamster need sand bath , thanks for enlighten me. biggrin.gif
About the Ovo , I read up that the Ovo loft doesn't have the ventilation problem anymore as to compare with others Ovo line .
I guess Ovo loft will be good then ?

Zoozone2 doesn't look that fancy/gorgeous though.
QUOTE(athirah88 @ Sep 29 2008, 05:51 PM)
Syrians doesn't need bath sand as they can clean themselves. But they are extremely clean as they only pee at certain spot. Like my Aloe only pee in his toilet, you can toilet train your syrian so you don't need to clean very often. You'll need toilet sand for that.
*
Thanks for telling again. Do you mind teach me how to toilet train them ? Besides that , do I need to get extenstion of those ovo plastic to make the toilet place ?

On the other hand , what is toilet sand ? icon_question.gif

QUOTE(Sophiera @ Sep 29 2008, 05:51 PM)
As for the dog food, Ignorance my friend. People believe in advertising.

Or they don't read up much, not willing to spend, or simply cannot afford to feed their dog the good stuff. Many people don't know, they think it's the thing to feed because it is so popular.

@ Mijah Bahaya tu bagi orang lain post as you. Soil your name only. If he wants to discuss, he should have his own account.
*
So what's the best stuff available in the market ? How much it is ? You're feeding your dog with the best stuff you mentioned ? hmm.gif

To toilet train, you have to collect their poo, and the bedding which they pee on and put into the place you designated as the toilet, the hamster will then think that is his spot to do business and just continue doing his business there, some might not get it the first time, you just have to keep doing it. You don't really have to get the extension just for the toilet an simple clay bowl would suffice. Toilet sand is any non-clumping sand, you can even use cat litter as long as it is non-clumping.

Note that only one Syrian is to be put in the same place as they are very territorial and will fight to their death.

OOT oops.gif Actually any commercialize pet-food is not really good. Like Friskies and Whiskas for cats. People just buy them coz they think they're cheaper, which they are, just not in a long term.
*
Thaank you on giving me such informative post on Toilet training.
I would like to ask if we doesn't help the syrian to bath , how will the smell like ?
I know poo must clean but if it's toilet train , it'll be easy to take care of. biggrin.gif

Oh yea , I would like to ask how much will be Harry Hamster food and Celect bedding? They come in a varities of how many kgs ? blink.gif

I scare I bought wrong type of breed , is they any link for me to understand their body features more ?

But Zoozone doesn't looks great , I'm not sure if I should proceed to purchase the Ovo loft. sad.gif

Please give your opinions here , sifu's.

Actually it is your decision to buy which ever cages or tanks that you fancy. In your reply, I can see that you really want to buy the OVO Loft but due to some members here giving the otherwise. You hit a stump.

Everyone here have gave their opinions regarding the OVOs and recommended others to you. You already have all the advice here.

If you want something pleasing to your eyes then get the OVO Loft. Or get a zoozone1, zoozone 2 or a 2 feet guppy tank if you want something comfortable for the hamster to stay in.

I can tell you that cleaning the OVO will be a hassle compared to the others recommended.

Good luck!
*
I'm sorry that I ask alot about it, maybe this shows that I really hope to get the best thing ? hmm.gif
Can anyone tell me where I can buy the Zoo zone Medium / 2 ?

I google it up and I could find none in malaysia. sad.gif

For me, I'll go for ZooZone as it is better for the hamster and it's cheaper than the Ovo loaf. Then save the money to get a good wheel and it is a NEED for hamsters.
Don't think you can get that in Ipoh as I never see any there when we do pet shops hunting. Do not think I'll be going back to Ipoh in this month.
ZooZone no more in production already, you gotta wait for the new designs maybe, for the time being, save your money first lor.
It's not about clumping or non-clumping. It's totally 2 different thing la. Toilet sand/liter sand is for them to pee and poo inside, bathing sand / ALEX bath sand is for them to clean and remove excess oil from their fur. How can 2 different thing come to be the same conclusion? Doesn't matter for the bathing sand whether it's clumping or non clumping. Please make your mind clear about the product before make yourself worried.
*
I went to a pet shop today and they got sell all those funky hamster case , but they doesn't have Zoozone nor any large cage. sad.gif
Can anyone help me to purchase the Zoozone ? I'll pay for the courier service. blush.gif

Then I will suggest you to buy the 2ft guppy tank cos Ipoh is not easy to get hamster supplies. ZooZone is not easy to get in KL now as there's not much stock left after Hagen stop the production of ZooZone series. Not much people from Ipoh in here even you willing to pay for the courier service as it is a heavy and big cage. It is about 3ft x 2ft x 1.5ft (estimation measurements). If by pos or courier service, the service fees maybe more expensive than the cage itself. Too bad I just came back from Ipoh last week and not plan to go back in this month.
*
I check in Poslaju rates , it's only Rm34.00 for 7kgs. Unless they charge for Volumetric weight.
If I couldn't find Zoozone , I'll just settle down on Crittertrail then and maybe get a winter white instead.
Sigh..

firsian not that easy to find. Visited a few shops but never saw it yet.

Hi there,

Thank you for your kindness on helping me out. I'm interested with V1 - Pink/Turquoise or V2 - White/Grey. If there's V1 pink available , I think I'll go for V1 as the colors is more vibrant. But I need to confirm the courier charges is charging on Volumetic weight or Normal Parcel weight. I really hope you're free to a few shops to do your daily groceries shopping and help me along to hunt for the case.

Please let me know further. biggrin.gif

I'm not sure whether Pos Malaysia accept such a big item for courier or not. There's still pet shop which have stock with ZooZone1 and ZooZone2 but just like I said, it's very troublesome to get it courier, maybe Andy can send to you in Ipoh? icon_idea.gif  icon_idea.gif  icon_idea.gif The other option is to get the 2ft tank as you'll find it is good for the hamster and easy to clean and for me, it's not that bad looking if you can maintain it's cleanliness and do some deco on the tank. icon_idea.gif
Yes, Pet SHack have frisian for sale. Sand must be look like sand la...what else?  sweat.gif
*
There's another Andy in here ? laugh.gif
Yes , Courier service accept such item , even a washing machine also no problem , but then the shipping cost is around 60 and the Zoozone2 at Rm140 , do you think it's worth anyway ?
I must scout around this few days.

A 2ft tank is a good choice if there's water access nearby , else it's heavy to do cleaning..

Try getting Frisian Non-clumping cat litter to be use as the toilet sand. You can get them in any pet shops under the cat section. Pet Shack does sell them too and also have smaller packets on sale.
