QUOTE(Sophiera @ Nov 29 2008, 11:05 PM)
I come bearing very sad news.

Over the past few days she was less and less active...we understood she was old (nearing three years old) so less activity is expected

Earlier today there was nothing particularly wrong, but when I returned home about 11 p.m I noticed a lot of blood in her bath sand. Her hind is also bloody and there were some blood stains in the beddings too. She was inactive and didn't nip us much.

Seeing how much blood was lost, we do not think she will make it through the night sad.gif

oh dear sad.gif

did she make it?

This sounds like your hammy got bladder stone. Can get those 100% cranberry juice without sugar added to feed the hammy. Can get the juice from any supermarket.

Much thanks for the address. She's alive today...sleeping on some cool stones. Dad said no more blood but not out of the woods yet.

Cold storage should have, I think. Must she get an operation or the juice is enough?

Need to know if it's very far because if it is she might not tahan the journey...

Added on November 30, 2008, 2:54 pmI live around PTWC by the way.
And how much ml of cranberry juice?

Please take out the cotton wool immediately. The hamster can choke to death or once swallow and it can't get digested in it's stomach and die.

You can use tissue paper instead.

You can add 3-5 drops of cranberry juice to their water bottle or their smoothie. But smoothie will be better as they will finish their smoothie. You can also syringe feed if can.

i really seldom see Toph plays/walks/wanders around his cage la... sad.gif

always take all the food in his house...sleep...wake up...eat his food in his house...sleep...

sometimes goes to toilet to pee, then cleans himself...goes in his house....sleep again... unsure.gif

i've always waited till midnight, and most of the time he won't be awake or playing yet....
if i happen to wake up around 2-3am, sometimes can see him run in the wheel, but then...most of the time i will be very sleepy to watch him play sad.gif

and i never see him drink his water, the only sign that tells me he did is the amount of water in the bottle...

i guess even hamsters have different personalities and behaviours...huhhuh...

would like to watch him actively run/play in the cage... sad.gif

If she doesn't drink then you need to force syringe feed her. But as you said she is 3 years old already. It's already expected that day will come? Don't be too sad.

Better not use those bar cages as those bars will get rusted and your hammy will keep on biting and get poisoned. The bar have a salty taste to the hamster, that's why it chew on it instead of the biscuits you bought.

Better get a 2 feet plastic tank instead.

No point waiting for others to advice as they will ask to bring to the vet ASAP or they can't excatly know what is it just by reading here.

Instead of waiting, it is better to bring to the vet or else it is too late.
