biggrin.gif Well, my 2 dip dip hamsters are syrians. So of course each cage has only 1 hamster in it.

Their chew toy is actually the small dog chew toy shaped like a bone. I bought a pack of wooden chew toys for my hams before. Roche totally destroyed her wooden chew toys and I had to replace hers every 2 weeks or so. She'll work hard everyday to leave a pile of wooden splinters in her cage. Ferro on the other hand never chews his toys.

The doggie chew toy lasts a lot longer than the wooden chew toys. Roche chews it all the same.

Well, you can use those attachments but why don't you get some cuter hideouts for muffin? And Muffin will automatically know how to use a bottle. He will be able to smell water and go to it, don't worry.

Actually I think the bone thing is called a rawhide or something. And yeah it's really hard. It's kinda like a thing tied into the shape of a bone. You get a lot in a container that cost about RM 11.

It's safe and Roche chews it just nicely. She prefers the bone shaped one to the long one.

They're more durable and Roche finds it more challenging. biggrin.gif

Icednyior, I'm hoping it works but getting a chew toy for your hamster may not get rid of the incessant chewing it's doing. Like I say, Roche chews but Ferro doesn't. So I usually switch their chew toys every week to make them curious. biggrin.gif It's funny when they look at something that's the same but doesn't feel the same.

I think clumping litter, if eaten by a hamster, may start clumping in the stomach and cause impaction or something.

robos, being the smallest of dwarves, of course eat the least lo. They, like any other living being, eat the food they prefer first, so you just adjust lor. My robos could eat 1 whole piece of dark leafy greens each la.

BTW i don't recommend feeding brocolli. They will produce a lot of gas in the stomach.

andy, why don't you try to get your hamster to come to you instead of trying to catch it all over his tank?

Hold your hand down on the shavings and put some treats at the tip of your fingers closer to him. let him get used to your hand and know it's not dangerous. Then when it's used to taking from the tip, move the treats a little higher up your hand until he has to stand on your hand to get the treat. And then just continue moving the food up your hand until Muffin is eventually standing, whole body, on your hand. Even better if he starts eating on it.

He'll get the idea that hand = lotsa good things and will rush to it with enough time of training.

The problem is a little weird. Of course better if you can bring to a vet. smile.gif Perhaps they can help find out what's wrong with your hams. The surest way is to bring to a vet. Try to go as soon as possible. If it is serious then the earlier the cause is found, the better.

jovyn, 20-25g for roborovskis is a good weight. Slightly heavier or lighter is fine also.

lol, robo does not have a lifespan of 15 years. It's about 4 years only and that's the longest lifespan of all hamster breeds. It can live a little pass 4 years to about 5 years depending on the way it is raised and cared for plus of course, genetics, since inbred hams fleetingly short lifespans.

wub.gif But the white face robo is such a cutey! Take care of it byrop!

Depends on the individual robos. Most of my robos accept a new robo fairly fast and well. One that couldn't be accepted by 1 robo is usually accepted by another. It really depends on your luck.

I have housed all males and all females in a tank each without any fighting (cuz I remove any that doesn't seem to be accepted and reintroduced it to another tank). Those real trouble makers who never seem well accepted and are extremely aggressive gets put on adoption.

Yes ok to give on daily basis. Robos shouldn't take more than 3 a day but I recommend 2 first. I give 3 to the big fellas. Average fellas get 2 only.

ann3, what is your Q? Chocolate is poisonous to animals lor. Don't give.

lol, ann3, your stuart is what breed? sweat.gif I cannot imagine him playing with his pee. How lar to do that. Elaborate a bit? sweat.gif And pee got what to do wif carrots. Maybe I'm not seeing the connection.

Anyhow, I think his peeing in the bath sand is ok as long as you keep it clean. Or you can try the alternative of not putting the bathing sand in all the time. Only give it to him when you're changing his shavings, for about half an hour. Otherwise, just leave him with the toilet sand la. He'll resort to using back the toilet sand.

@ballista: wink.gif Glad to be of service.

@andy and athirah: sweat.gif If you guys really can't handle your mealies then get tweezers. But I suggest handling since I don't believe in feeding my pets anything I won't touch. Plus using your fingers is SOO much easier than using tweezers. The first step is the hardest. But if you really can't do it, then lucky you, tweezers were invented.

Your hams will love them. Good source of protein and they never say no to mealies. Plus it's a alive so it won't rot or spoil. There's definitely no loss in feeding them mealies (to a restricted amount ok guys?). Good luck!

lol, then your cat not so lovable la athirah. I prefer a stick-to-me cat.

Just go into the pet shop and ask for mealworms RM 1. You can also get them at live fish shops. Remember to gutload them for 2 days first yar cuz we do't know what the mealies ate and it'll end up being inside our hams.

And if it's any consolation, mealies don't bite. all they do is move around trying to get away. once you handle it, you will be less afraid of it. Good luck!!

@Ryo: Lol so cute!! Your sis hamster looks like your button. But with more white sides. The cat is your beekins?

kcng, I'm so sorry for your loss... Perhaps he was old and it's his time to go. You gave him a happy home and will still care for his brother. I'm sure he'll watch over you from hamster heaven.

Try not t be sad that he has to leave you. Be happy that he was yours as much as you were his. Your time together was special. Don't be too sad.

Apples are fine. Having fresh food is good for the health of hamsters. He's with you 8 months? That means he's older. It might be something else also la...

But really, try not to be too sad. I'm sure he wouldn't want you to be sad for him.

kcng, I think you should get a new companion for your other robo. A few of my robos became stressed when their partners died that they stopped eating (well, greatly reduce appetites) and hardly any activity. A companion will do your robo some good.

My robos don't like the yolk. Never ate them whenever I give to them back then. Plus most of the calcium is in the egg white. The egg yolk you makan la. biggrin.gif

Lol, won't kill la. But if your point was to give your hams protein, it's in the egg white. Plus my hams never liked egg yolks.

hmm.gif But hams like making a grass/tissue nest where they sleep.

laugh.gif I understand your hams merajuk. My robos used to be like that. Whenever I try to take out the sand they will all jump into the bowl at the same time. They'll get used to it. You just have to keep doing this until it's habitual for them to do their business in the toilet sand.

I don't think the rumor applies although you may notice that female hams will make several nests in several locations when she is pregnant. Whenever one of my hams get pregnant, she makes nests all over the place and fights with other robos that infringe her nest (other than her male).

To be safe, just count the days until she gives birth. If she's pregnant she'll get rounder, not exactly fatter. Remember to give bigger portions of protein ok?

@bruised: Your robo is using the bathing sand to do what it's made for. Your robo is bathing by flipping on its back. If your robo doesn't flip anywhere else then it's fine.

The thing about robos is, they LOVE to pee in the wheel as much as they love the wheel. There's no point in trying to stop it because it won't. It's a habit shared by most robos.

I recall only chipsi classic and chipsi super are ok. Others are not so. Pet Wonderlad sells Chipsi classic at RM 26 for the big pack I think. You can try there. If there are no side effects (bleeding nose, etc etc) then you use finish that medium pack first. Then buy proper bedding ok? Long exposure to bad bedding has bad effects to their general health.

@nezu: The research never stops right? wink.gif Learning is a life long experience. I was researching calcium for suggies and piggies. It was stuck in my head till I reply here. biggrin.gif
