ok, i'm sorry if this is a noob question. however, i'm an iphone 2G user using 1.1.4 then upgrade to 2.02 and finally 2.1 fw.
i've unlocked + jailbreak. i've noticed that after i've upgraded the fw. now i can connect to edge network. how is this possible?
i thought Maxis doesnt support EDGE network? i can surf safari, youtube and dl from cydia & installer.
it's amazing to have connection all the time but i'm just wondering what are the charges.
(it's not from wifi connection. the button is off & no wifi in my place. secluded area)

yup maxis supports EDGE. if EDGE isn't available at your area it will switch back to GPRS. (EDGE is labeled as E while GPRS is labeled with a aquare with a dot, or just a square on earlier firmware) the charges are the same between HSDPA, 3G, EDGE and GPRS. they r only charged based on data usage. myb u wanna check on maxis website for the rate. roughly it's 1 cent per kb, unless u r on unlimited data plan.

but u can always search this forum for earlier posts to get real instant answer.
btw if u r using prepaid then myb u wanna be careful with your data usage. your credit will be flat in no time. and if u r using it on postpaid (without data plan) then you will be afraid of your bill.
the iPhone always access internet to update data on Stocks and Weathers too when u r not using internet applications (not mentioning the Mail)
it's roughly RM10 per MB. wanna some youtube on your iPhone?
