gear syncro is a toothed ring which pre-spins the gears before engaging 2 gears together...

for example, ur primary shaft is spinning freely with respect to the engine speed... and u wants to engage in gear 1... during this time, gear 1 is not spinning... a gear which is spinning 2k rpm could not immediately engaged with a stationary gear... hence, syncro comes into play where is pre-spins the gear 1 so primary spinning gear can engage into gear 1 easily...

when ur syncro wears out, it could not pre-spin the stationary gears... hence u have hard time engaging into gears.... how many syncro does a gearbox has??... similar with the amount of gears u have... each gear (gear 1, gear 2, etc..) has its own syncro...
