I am so feddup. I really need help. I have been googling for 3 damn hours already. I am trying to backup all my contacts and sms from my 1.1.2 iphone 2G but when I manage to SSH into the phone, I cannot find the files to backup nor the directory where the contacts and sms is stored. Will someone kindly please add me to their msn j45on@msn.com and guide me step by step on how to upgrade to firmware 2.2.1?

MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO HEAR ME!

Ok, that works great!

1. Can the files backup of the 1.1.2 firmware work in 2.2.1?

2. Now that I have backup the SMS, Calendar, CallHistory, AddressBook, Maps, Photo and DCIM folder, can I proceed to upgrade directly from 1.1.2 to 2.2.1?

3. Do I have to use the 2.2.1 file from the download link for iphone 2G or 2.2.1 from iTunes 8?

4. Do I have to hold Shift+Restore or just click Restore when I upgrade from 1.1.2 to 2.2.1 from iTunes?

Do I have to change the permission for all the backup files after I replace them into the iphone with new firmware 2.2.1?

If yes, what permission should I set it to?

My iPhone 2G has been officially unlocked for the first time!

It has been a very exciting experience. The 3 hours period to download the ROM, the anxious reading of the steps and rehearse them again and again so I don't miss them when I do it, the asking of questions and waiting for replies, and lastly, the difficult task of opening the sim tray (with TurboSim inside = ='' ).

Weeeeeeeee~~~~~

Thanks people! Its so easy now!

Ok, small hiccup.

My Notes, put back in the folder var/mobile/Library/Notes/Notes.db and permission set as 0644, Owner:mobile and Group:mobile but its not appearing. Folder also set the same permission but still cannot.

Please help.

Edit: ok, i manage to fix it by creating a note and saving it then replace the file again. Voila, the notes is there again!

=)

You backup all your files manually already? You do it using WinSCP and OpenSSH. Read the 1st post as well as post in page 79 onwards by me.

Scary.....so better don't jailbreak?

How come other people's 2.2.1 3G can jailbreak? Maybe because they using rebel sim, so the signal works fine.
