Does the CQ45 or other Compaq notebook 5 in 1 card reader support SDHC?

Just bought myself a CQ45-127TX last saturday in PC fair at Kuching for RM2599 after rebate.

Really happy with the notebook albeit a little warm on the left hand side but not a major problem.

Added on December 8, 2008, 5:39 pmWanted to share a link that I've found.

The HP QuickPlay software that was bundled with Vista license.

Here's the quickplay standalone software for those who hate to install without the bloatware. biggrin.gif

Same case as you, Berserker. Bought the 127tx in Kuching last weekend. Added rm38 to make it a total of 3gb, totaling RM 2597. What freebies did they give you?

So far, it's running smoothly. The only problem i had with it is the touchpad. I have to install a driver from HP to be able to scroll. Other than that, everything is fine.

And what is the QuickPlay software that you're talking about? I thought the software was already installed into the laptop in the first place?

hi justanime, I bought mine from PC Image. Same like urs?

as for the freebies it's cheapo stuff but still free. tongue.gif

1. cheapo notebook cooler
2. cheapo headphone
3. 4gb pendrive envo nod.gif
4. cheapo keyboard protector - too big for they keypad
5. USB mouse
6. RM 100 Cash Discount Vouchers at PC Image
7. 1GB upgrade

The QuickPlay software can be found on the pavillion series with Vista license but mine is FREE-DOS. So, no recovery cd etc.
You noticed the white button on the most left next to the wireless? if you press it, nothing will come out. You need to install the quickplay to enable that features.

Google for it and you will see.

Have you checked the ram that they installed, I noticed that they installed a DDR667 instead of DDR800.
Although the PC no problem but the bandwidth performance will be slower.
Will call them up to check on this matter and change the RAM to DDR800.

Planning to buy another 2GB DDR800.

Hi,

I am from Kuching too.  I bought the CQ20-213TU in Oct for RM 2,509...darn i should have waited till the ICT fair, i saw it was RM 2,299 after rebate.  Anyway, mine is also free DOS version, so can I install the QuickPlay from the link you provided for my CQ20-213TU model?

By the way, i tried to create recovery disc but i can't find the HP Recovery Manager in my laptop.  Where can I find and install it?

Thanks.

Hi,
you can install the quickplay and activate using the button on the most left beside the wireless.

The HP recovery manager only comes preinstalled for notebook that have Vista licenses. Unless you have the recovery cd for your own model.
The FREE-DOS version have to use M$ own Vista Ultimate Backup & Restore Center. Look in All Programs->Maintenance.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice.  Will try and install the quickplay software.  I don't have recovery cd for my own model, it's a FREE-DOS version, so i guess i have to use the Vista Ultimate Backup & Restore Center then.

By the way, need advice from you guys regarding wireless & bluetooth.  I notice my CQ20 wireless & bluetooth is activated using the wireless button, however, it's wireless + bluetooth together.  Is there any way which I can turn off bluetooth whenever i press the wireless button, meaning that whenever i use wireless, is there a way for me to temporarily turn off the bluetooth and only on it when i need bluetooth?

Thanks again!  smile.gif

Yes, you can.

Open your HP Wireless Assistant and go to Properties.
Check the "Independent controls for installed wireless devices"
Click Apply and you're done. biggrin.gif

Hi cj7ven, can try www.notebookreview.com. They also have a dedicated forum for all major notebooks in the market.

Yeah, bought it from PC Image as well. And the pendrive is the only good thing from the freebies..haha. However, i did get the salesman to throw in a genuine  Vista Home Premium for free (at least that's what he said, tried to update and so on..and it works). Ended up getting Vista Ultimate instead when i booted it up at home.

I didn't look at the original 1GB ram but i hope it's 800mhz. The brochure says so and the salesman assured that it's 800mhz as well. However, the salesman did try to sell me a 667mhz 2GB ram that day..instead of a 800mhz that i requested. Luckily, i at least knew how to read the label stickers on the ram.  yawn.gif I'll check the speed on the 1GB ram some other time when i'm free.

Oh, and i'll install the QuickPlay software that you mentioned. No wonder nothing happened when i pressed on the button. I thought it is a eject button or something before this. LOL. Anyway, thanks man.

My unit also came with Vista Ultimate preinstalled.
The original ram that came with the notebook is 800Mhz, but the free 1GB ram upgrade that they installed was 667. So the notebook have to run at 667 instead of 800.
I don't want to call them since it works fine.

I plan to drop by their shop and use the vouchers to buy another 1 piece 2gb 800 instead. The ram is so damn cheap these days. biggrin.gif

Hi Berserker,

Mine is a FREE-DOS version (CQ20-213TU), but they installed Windows Vista Home Premium.  How do i know whether they installed a genuine copy for me and whether i can update my windows?  By the way, is Vista Ultimate really different from Vista Home Premium?  Should I upgrade to Ultimate?  I am currently running 3 gb RAM, thought of changing it to max 4gb RAM.
*
Vista Ultimate have more functions than Vista Home Premium.
3GB RAM is the optimum for 32bit Vista. Anything more than 3 GB will not be recognise by the OS.
64 bit Vista can support more than 4GB RAM

All FREE-DOS units that was purchased came preinstalled with Windows Vista *AHEM* version. Updating your version should be possible if your VISTA is OEM license.

Anyone here already updated their BIOS to F.24?

If yes,
I want you to shutdown the notebook while on battery.
See if the notebook shutdown completely or restart itself again.

I noticed that my notebook will restart again even though i select shutdown in Vista.
This will not happen if it's connected and charged by the AC.
