yes, u can used it. wouldnt be a problem.

with pcie 2.0 u get a very little improvement.
for me, i cant barely noticed here.

GTX280 and 4870 both has 1GB which means they are meant to spent on higher reso.
i dont said that they cant be spent on lower reso, but for me its overkill.
coz i have experiences using flagship cards on my crt, like 2 years already.
if i were u, i'll just go with 4870. that card is enuff for me at 1280x1024 reso.
