You can even run Vista x64 with 2GB of RAM. Thats not the problem. People say its way faster then 32-bit. At this moment I am using 32-bit as well , I haven't seen the whole need to upgrade to 64-bit. Maybe once Windows 7 is out its time to move on to 64-bit. You must bear in mind that some old stubborn software wouldn't work in 64-bit and some cheap china made products also wouldn't work on 64-bit as well (these folks don't even have a 64-bit driver)

Yeah , you'll have to use Mobility Modder to modify it , the stock drivers that came along with COMPAQ is old. Better get the latest tone if you're up to gaming !

Thank you shady for your fast reply.  rclxms.gif  thumbup.gif  I really appreciate your kind response and willingness to help others to solve their CQ40 series notebook problem.  brows.gif

BTW, I still need you to clarify this.  brows.gif
What do you mean by DVD's from other companies?  hmm.gif  Is it Compaq HP recovery disk produced by other company or;
other companies = other laptop brand/manufacturer eg: DELL, TOSHIBA, SONY etc..

Thank you so much in advance!  biggrin.gif

You can take the Windows Vista DVD and try it. If it takes your CD key , you're in luck. There is no harm. Just make sure you don't mess with the recovery partition just incase if you would like to restore the whole thing

I have to accept that Compaq didn't provide the option to select software/application to install during recovery process. Even in advanced option I couldn't find it.  sad.gif

Now I have to uninstall manually all the 60 days trial application like Norton Internet Security and Microsoft Office 2007. I hate to do that because I prefer a clean install of Windows Vista.  cry.gif  Even though it disappear from my Program Files, I still feel that some files left somewhere. Hahaha.. weird ha? Can you feel me?  tongue.gif

Well , since you own a Vista OEM key. You can borrow someones Vista OEM CD and then install it with the provided serial and it should be good to go. Installing your very own vista would do the trick. Alternatively you may use nLite to "rip" the Vista installation and then customize it without the value added services and programs !

Okay guys,

This thread has passed way beyond its limits. I would suggest for someone to start a new V to post all the stuff here

I'll be locking this thread in 2-3 days time. I'll be giving some room for folks to start a new version

Thank you
