I dont think DDR2 800 CL6 exists
Why? My CQ45 came with one stick of Elpida SODIMM DDR2 800 2GB (PC-6400) and timing 6-6-6-18. Also a quick google shows this http://www.provantage.com/acp-ep-memory-aa800d2s6-2g~7ACPN0L8.htm

3450 p4wns 9200 big time!
*

I wouldn't think there is much between them. Notebookcheck puts the HD 3450 at position 97 and 9200M at position 89. Anyone got a 3450 they can run furbench on? 640x480 should be Ok.

Someone else mentioned a problem with the brightness control with XP. When I tried XP on my CQ45 the brightness control worked fine, so maybe some hope that you can get it to work too.

anyway, here's FurMark for my HD3450 :

IINM, 9200M GS maxed out at 800
*
Hey, thanks. 800 o3Marks might be for a 9200M GS with GDDR3 but unfortunately HP decided to use the (cheaper?) GDDR2 sad.gif

Stock 9200M GS with 256MB GDDR2 runs about 616 o3Marks, 800 o3Marks with OC and I guess a 9200M GS with GDDR3 OC'd would hit 1000 o3Marks. So a pretty good score for the HD 3450 wink.gif

Well synthetic benchmarks doesnt really matters.
Personally I find benchmarks useful, do you have another way to judge graphic performance that doesn't use benchmarks?

QUOTE(shady @ Jan 10 2009, 10:25 AM)
If you really want to utilized all 4GB, I suggest u to get 64bit Windows.
Not a bad suggestion if you've got a 64bit CPU. If you want/need to use a 32bit OS unfortunately it seems MS decided to limit most of the non-server ones to 4GB. sad.gif

I do find benchmarks useful but since this is a low end GPU i think it is pointless to compare peformance because not many games are playable.
At the moment with my low end GPU I am playing FC2. Sure, the GPU really doesn't do FC2 justice because I have to play 960x600 res + dx9 and low settings, but playable it is. If benchmarks for the lower end GPUs can give me some indication of what to expect at least I can make a decision based on performance albeit low performance. If I can get a higher resolution or better definition because of a 50% or more increase in performance from one GPU vs another, surely that's got to be a good thing and make the gaming experience a little better. For all those whose budgets only cover low end GPUs don't you think they should at least be able to get and idea of best performance for their money?

Maybe because I have a desktop I never really think of gaming with this laptop. I really hate playing games at resolution lower than native. Thats why I dont play new games on this laptop. Old games are good on native resolution though. Well, mainstream is never meant for gaming anyway, more for HD decoding and some light gaming. Even midrange GPUs like HD 3650 or GF 9600 are not enough for my needs tongue.gif
*

Fair enough. If I run the laptop without display scaling I loose some screen real estate with the lower than native resolution but at least it doesn't look fuzzy wink.gif

Good day CQ40 series notebook users!

Just curious...

Scenario:
According to Compaq Presario CQ40-134AX Notebook PC (NE621PA) - Specifications, the maximum memory you can put in is 8GB. Since there's only 2 memory slot, what I understand is that you have to put 2 x 4GB PC667/800 DDR2 to accomplished the max. I'm planning to get 1 x 4GB PC800 or 2 x 4GB PC800.

Questions:
Do I need to run 64bit OS to fully utilize 1 x 4GB PC800 in one slot? Because I read in the thread that we have to use 64bit OS in order to fully utilize 4GB (2 x 2GB PC800 DDR2) otherwise it will end up with only 3. something GB of RAM. Or does it only apply on dual channel only, which in this case the above 4GB (2 x 2GB PC800 DDR2)?

I hope that someone will answer my question ASAP. Will buy it tonight. Thanks in advance...
*
shocking.gif Wow, what price did you get for 4GB sticks? I thought of upgrading some time ago but too expensive, even now that the price of 4GB sticks has dropped a lot, the cheapest I have seen 2x4GB PC2-6400 (800MHz DDR2) for is around RM 2000. Yep, that's 2000 not 200, about RM 1000 per stick. sweat.gif

AFAIK 32bit MS OSes from XP SP2 onwards (except server versions) have capped memory and drivers to 4GB (32bits), so if you had a gpu with 512MB of dedicated memory for instance then that would mean you would not be able to utilize 512MB of your main 4GB RAM.

If you want to see how much of your 4GB is available to your system you can check with Task Manager under Physical Memory Total.

Dear Zibel,

You can check the price list here. Look under notebook memory. The 4GB Corsair only cost RM 200 / stick only.  smile.gif
*

Thanks for the price list, hope it is that price but I suspect it's a 2x2GB kit and not a single stick. Looked on Corsair's website and they don't appear to have 4GB SODIMM. sad.gif

aik! how come you didn't notice it? I just went to the link that you provide and they have it! Scroll further down and you can find part number: VS4GSDSKIT800D2     speed: PC2-6400     size: 4GB Kit    latency: 5-5-5-18    package: 200pin SODIMM.

I don't know why they call it 4GB Kit.  hmm.gif  Maybe it comes with memory cleaner kit. Hahaha..  tongue.gif
But IMHO, I think it is a single stick. Otherwise.. maybe other member can guide us both.
*

Normally a kit comprises of more than one stick, for instance to give you a matching pair for dual channel operation. Here is a site that shows the VS4GSDSKIT800D2 as two 2GB sticks. nod.gif

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-(2x2GB)...nbuffered-CAS-5

Maybe have to wait one year then the price RM 50 for 4GB stick hehe.

Where are you checking your mem size? If you look under control panel/system it should show how much is installed. This is not the same as how much is available for use under Vista SP1 32bit. For how much is available to use task manager or msinfo32 or dxdiag. MSINFO32 should also show that you have 4GB installed.

sori, i is noob vista  tongue.gif
1st time use vista
all shows 2.8G
*

Hey no problem, Vista can be confusing at times. For instance before SP1 vista would show available memory and not installed memory but that changed after SP1 so that the system would show installed rather than available. Seems to me your using vista pre SP1, if you install SP1 you should see 4GB installed instead of 2.8GB wink.gif

cracksys: AFAIK vista 32bit has PAE enabled by default, but your good anyway smile.gif

It depends on the 32bit version, some can show 4GB, those that can not will vary depending on hardware.

huhuhu...can u tell@help me how to increase the score..?? sad.gif
*

direct and fastest solution:
----> buy new laptop wif better graphic card and speed
*

You could try different drivers, even using more RAM seems to put up the score or

the most direct, fastest and cheapest solution is go to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore, look for the last XML file and change <SystemScore>3.7</SystemScore> to <SystemScore>4</SystemScore> and <GraphicsScore>3.7</GraphicsScore> to <GraphicsScore>4</GraphicsScore> tongue.gif

Really though WEI can be strange. With some old drivers I was getting 4.2/5.1 for graphics but when updated them and got better benchmarks, WEI went down to 4.0/4.9 hmm.gif

IMHO better to run a graphic bench mark to check such as 3dmark. Cracksys ran Furmark earlier in the thread so that should give you some idea wink.gif

of course default clock speed is 500Mhz.

what we're (me & other guy) talking about is max clock speed being only 250Mhz.

Could it be a problem with GPUZ reading incorrectly, have you tried checking with something else ?

Open a command prompt window "Run CMD"
enter "ipconfig /all"
somewhere down the list under your NIC will be "Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX" where XX will be hex numbers.

Ohh !, I see doh.gif. Try this...

I try to make this so you can use for Vista or XP

1. press 'windows key' + 'r' and run 'ncpa.cpl' to open 'Network Connections'
2. right click 'Realtek Local Area Connection' and select 'Properties'
3. left click 'Configure' button
4. left click 'Advanced' tab.
5. In the 'Property' window select 'Network Address'
6. If 'Value' is selected and is at default 000000000000 then this is why your seeing 00-00-00-00-00-00 as your MAC address. You can change this to what you want (not recommended) or better, select 'Not Present'. By selecting 'Not Present' you will use your NIC's unique MAC address.
7. left click 'OK' and confirm (hopefully) with 'ipconfig /all' sweat.gif
