of course change to 64-bit la.
i saw the malaysia compaq homepage can't find Compaq Presario CQ40-125AX, just the v series only, why?

and from hong kong compaq, http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/hk/en/ho/WF...57-3329742.html
CQ40 using better cpu, with 2mb cache one.

You can find in HP Malaysia's online store. Yup, HK version comes with Turion X2 Ultra and WIFI n. Honestly, the performance difference between Turion X2 RM-70 2.0Ghz and Ultra ZM-80 2.1Ghz is less than 10% even with double amount of cache. AMD CPUs dont need big cache because of integrated memory controller. The architecture is old so in terms of performance and power efficiency, even the first gen of Core 2 Duo smacks Turion Ultra.

yeah, youre absolutely correct. because from the comparison list of mobile processor, RM-70 ranks 65 while ZM-80 ranks ranks 63. not so much difference. and according to Windows Experience Index, RM-70 got 4.8 while ZM-82 got 5.0..

I just got my first 2GB DDR2 800 stick. Put it in and mix with my 1GB DDR2 667. Tried some benchmarks, and the scores are pretty much same like 2x2GB DDR2 667.

After that, I removed the 1GB DDR2 667 stick. With single 2GB DDR2 800 stick, the system boots faster and feel more responsive. Tried benchmarks and its faster than DDR2 667 especially in latency. Cant wait for my 2nd 2GB stick tomorrow.

HP did the wrong choice. Should have bundled the system with DDR2 800 sticks. I will post some benchmarks if I'm free tomorrow.

yeah. the 1GB DDR2 667 stick limits the capabilities of the other 800mhz stick. thats why the result is about the same with original one..

My friend just got the laptop today.. from lowyat also.. (He'll be joining us here soon - he forgot his LYN password!)

And he got a free gift, looks like it's from HP/AMD directly!!

I wonder why I didnt get one sad.gif  The shop say normally other lowyat shops would take the free gift for themselves.. thats not nice lah..  vmad.gif

Anyway, I'll attach the picture of the gifts HP/AMD gave :

Front Picture :

[attachmentid=622370]
Back Picture :

[attachmentid=622381]
The Contents :

[attachmentid=622373]

Basically it's a 4GB pendrive (Pendrive brand, 5 years warranty), Multimedia headset and mic, plus 1 year license for AHNlab V3 antivirus.
He also got the standard HP/Compaq nylon bag, and he added 4GB DDR800 RAM into the laptop. So far the Windows Experience Index is showing score 5.9 for his RAM (my DDR 667 4GB is showing 5.6 only!)

Nope. The RAM compartment is easily accesible. Just make sure u keep the original RAM stick for warranty purpose.

I dont think can overclock the GPU. There is no overclocking options. Vista rating is 4.0.

320GB 7200rpm. As long as its the standard SATA 2.5inch HDD can support.

If u have money add few more hundred and get CQ45 with Core 2 and 9200M GS. This notebook is good but battery life is terrible.

Btw, I got my 2nd 2GB DDR2 800 stick today. I've tested DDR2 667, 800 single and dual channel RAM sticks on my system. Tested using Everest 4.6. Here are the results:

RAM sticks used:
Qimonda 1GB DDR2 667 CL5
Mushkin Basic 1GB DDR2 667 CL5
Transcend 2GB DDR2 800 CL5 (2sticks)

From the results, it seems 780G chipset runs best on DDR2 800 RAM. Using two sticks boost memory copy score. Latency is lower with DDR2 800 sticks too. Btw, of 4096MB, only 3068MB is recognised in Vista 32bit mad.gif

Hmm...Either we want 2GB + 1 GB RAM without Dual channel or (cheaper)

2GB + 2GB RAM with Dual channel but limited to 3GB by 32BIT OS. (fast but wasting 1GB). sad.gif

fyi, 2gb + 1gb also perform the dual channel mode, at least a same speed required.
