lacto 5 is just plain yoghurt powder. if you sensative to yoghurt pwoder then stay away from it la other than that it should be able to hold off your diarrhea for a few days..

in choosing probiotics only choose Specific strain of bacteria like LactoGG or L.reuteri or also the NCFM

and also it must be refrigerated to be of any use

Selenium you are correct. Probiotics have to be strain specific. Dr told me LACTOGG very stable i.e it's ok if i forgot to refrigerate it. Others like L.reuteri and NCFM not as stable.

My kids were taking antibiotics and the dr gave them LACTOGG probiotic. And it works wonders! They dont fall ill easily and are eating more.
I took some for myself and hubby too! It works for adults as well... now whole family is really energised and healthy.

Sandtitan I think u can checkout www.lactogg.com too.

Wow i've never tried using these to make yoghurt. I usually use plain yoghurt from supermarket to make my own yogurt. Whats the difference? Share your experience!

i used to buy a cup of plain yogurt as starter for homemade yogurt. however i find some brands it just after more than 8 hours yogurt still not form.
using logic, i was thinking hey lacto-5 contains 10billion cfu... should work, eh? so i open the vegecap & mix into the unformed yogurt.
& voila! after 4 hours the yogurt formed smile.gif

so well yea, i guess u can make yogurt using using lacto-5 tongue.gif

i plan the next batch of yogurt, i use 1 lacto5 then see whether form or not, if not i will add another.
i think it is a little cheaper as i bought the lacto5 during promo which 1 caps < rm1.

i add a little honey to the milk for taste. i love honey.
then add loads before eating tongue.gif

quote from lacto-5 site (just found out about this today...)
"Streptococcus thermophilus, in combination with L.bulgaricus, is used commercially to produce yogurt. This organism is to be known to be efficient in breaking down lactose by producing the enzyme lactase. Those who are lactose-intolerant may be greatly helped by supplementation with this particular strain. Cytokine production is stimulated in tissue-cultured cells by this bacterium."

fyi - used the yogurt maker from easiyo. it's expensive the last time i bought around rm98+ includes extra container and 1 package of pre-mix yogurt.
i have to agree the pre-mix from easiyo is really really yummy but also really really expensive. it's > rm15 per package with makes 1 cointainer (around 800ml-1l).
so now, i only use the yogurt maker which is really convenient n non-messy to make yogurt without using the premix.

Pro-biotics take a very long time to work. Your gut has over 1 trillion bacteria. The pro-biotics you're taking are often less than 1 billion, so it's 0.1% impact on the gut biome.

Imagine a city with 1 million people, and think that you plan to change the culture by introducing only 1,000 more new people. Eventually, if you do this over and over every day for a year, then yes, things will start to change. But you need to be very consistent and spend about a year or more before you'll see the changes.

Yogurt is also only one method of doing this. A diet high in green leafy veggies will also aid the process. Sour Kraut is another very good thing (not stored in vinegar), though I'm not sure you'll find much of that in Malaysia.
