old newspaper,

just got the pro today! Whoopee!! Big adjustments though..was using the Sony Ericsson P990 before, so this is completely new to me. And i am still getting used to the device. Also using Garmin XT, which i think is far easier to use than Mapking, and looks better too. Using with malsing maps. No issue so far, but won't know until i drive in my car tmrow (with vkool)

soitsuagain,
price now should be Rm3099. Most shops should give at least a free 4g m-card with it

kerry,
nope, still using the cover that came with the phone. Apparently, the size for the pro is not available yet, but its odd, cause its similar to the Diamond no? and i would think there would be other screen protectors by now.

saigo,

hey hey , small world!! was one of the few early adopters for the P990, and it has disappointed me so far. I think you should know too with the low RAM and constant restarts! anyway, thought try something new since symbian doesn't seem as happening as WM. Heh heh. AP i am not sure laa..this is my first WM device, so maybe other sifus can help u. Come come join me! (evil grin) smile.gif BTW, my first discovery on trying to set ringtones. The file itself needs to be copied to the phone before it can be used. So i had a bunch of ringtones on the memory card, but had to copy it to the phone memory before i could set ringtones. Funny huh? But i think its a WM issue, not TP

old newspaper,
thanks!

Yeah same. A little disappointed with the low RAM, constant hanging etc but after flashing to the latest firmware had less of those problems.

But then again this phone damn sturdy. I'm quite a careless guy, already dropped my phone like more than 30 times edi but still no problem. Mind you, drop on the floor, on the roadside, on nearly any surface imaginable haha. Only a small part of the paint's chipped off, etc, otherwise still working perfectly fine.

What did you do with your P990? I'm not sure whether I should trade in (doubt there's much value left) or just let my bro use it or something. Or keep it as backup phone.
*
Well, you got that right! My P990 looks like its been to war and back, and yea, scratched here and chipped there, but still very sturdy. I am still keeping my P990 (and my P900 in fact!) Sentimental value i guess. Besides, not much value if i trade it in, so may as well keep as a back up phone. BTW, still trying to adapt to the sms-ing style using the keyboard. I am an old pro with the 990, so easy, i can even do it w/o looking at the keypad. The TP on the other hand...a new challenge!

you have to put your ringtones in the >mydocuments\ folder or >storage card\mydocuments\ folder or >windows\ folder.
those are the only place WM can detect them, unless you modify it read source or use other programs.
*
Hey Quinn, thanks for that useful bit of info. Will try that when i get back. Good, that means i don't have to clog up my phone storage!

Robin,
Well, it could also be that the battery is new, so need to 'run in' a bit before you can realise its power. Give it a few more days and see

hey bro, do u have the latest maps for Garmin XT? if have can u email to me?
*
Mine is the free download from Malsing maps. 2.15 i think. The newer maps need an unlock code, so haven't gotten to figuring out that one yet.

Also, trying to learn how to use it, like how to rename certain points i reach. Can't seem to find the option! Its just called 'point'.

i supposed you're trying to create a new POI like your home, office, etc. in garmin?

first you need to enter browse map mode, do this by pressing down on the action button while you're in navigation mode. You can see the difference because in browse mode the bottom two options are Back and Save.

Clicking Save at this point will save your current position as a new POI. clicking anywhere on the map will bring up a cursor and then when you click save the point will be created where the cursor is pointing.

To see all the points you've made, go back to main screen,tools->manage my data-> my locations

Garmin is confusing because they made it look almost exactly the same as their GPS appliances instead of acting like a WM program. I like the fact that the whole thing can be operated using the joypad instead of having to touch the screen.
*
Hey, thanks for the help marauderz. Will give it a try later. Another issue is my %#%# v kool. Affects the signal so now i have to get a lock first before getting into my car, and then also, during driving, there would be some lag in the tracking. Ah well, with the v kool and maybe not being a dedicated GPS unit for the Touch pro is an issue.

Baronic,
Was trying mapking, but no offence, it doesn't look as sharp and snazzy as the Garmin one. But you may be right about usability, though i did not really try out Mapking.

BTW, back to the Touch pro. Maaann..the front screen is a huge fingerprint magnet. Would changing to a better-quality screen cover help? Or maybe my fingers too dirty ha ha

go to my locations screen tap on point you want to change then tap... Change name! tongue.gif

they probably did it this way to allow users to save first edit later
*
Hey, it works! Now i can properly name my POIs instead of just 'point'. Thanks a lot Marauderz!

Robin,

20 mins of call and standby for nearly a day left one bar??? I admit thats very odd. I have my phone on 3g, sent and check several sms, listened to some songs, took 2 pictures, and was on the phone for about 25 min in total today. From full bar this morning (830am) till now, i am still left with 51%. Either your battery is defective, or there must be some setting on your phone that is sucking the juice. A hard reset maybe?

EDIT: PS Anyone know how to get album art and stuff like that? smile.gif

Guys, dunno whether its a coincidence of getting the battery more used or not, but today, i switched purely to GSM mode (no 3g) and battery life seems to be have improved considerably. Now, i would know more when the work-week starts again (calls, sms-ing etc) but for those who are not happy with the battery life, and do not need 3g all the time (i noticed my network kept fluctuating from 2G and 3G), this maybe an option.

Also, check out the xda forums. Plenty of good info there!

I went to Maxis KLCC - their main HQ's that I reckon. I was told that only Maxis KLCC, TTDI, and Midvalley I think (this one not sure) only has TP.

OK, stupid question, but how the heck did you guys transfer phone contacts from your old phone to TP? For some reason, Bluetooth transfer doesn't work.. TP always say "Failed to save. Received data may be incomplete". My old phone's SE P990i.
*
Hey, Saigo, just like me! Updated from a P990i. To transfer the contacts, i basically synced the P990 with Microsoft outlook (assuming you have have it) using SE's PC Suite (only contacts and appointments). Then, just plugged in my TP, and another sync later, wa-la, most of the contacts are in the TP. I say mostly because there were some missing numbers, but no big deal for me. Let me know if it works. smile.gif

Hey guys

Any of you have actually flashed another ROM into your TPs yet? Been reading a bit on xda forums, and as mentioned earlier, we even have a Malaysian creating his own ROM (good for u dude!)

I wouldn't mind trying it, hard-spl and all, but my concern would be preserving the stock ROM just in case for warranty, future upgrade purposes. Looking here at

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427507

it seems awfully technical to dump a stock ROM. Any of you guys done it before? Or maybe sifu Baronic can shed some light smile.gif

Wkho555,

There are some settings in Advanced Config under 'Power Management'. Give it a go and see if it helps!

Soundguy,

That does not sound normal. Even on my first charge when i bought the phone, an overnight charge fully charges it to 100%. Maybe you should consider changing your battery from the place you bought it. Another possibility would be your charger, but i do not know how to prove that it is. Hope others have better ideas

u need 3 things to restore warranty.

1. the radio rom.
2. the OS rom
3. The spl.

radio and OS, check htc website see got or not, if got can d. use those.
NOTE: usually the original roms come with radio already inside as well, so they may not be two separate roms

for spl, harder to get, someone has to extract it. i suggest not dumping yourself if u a bit blur in case u screw things up, and open a request spl thread in XDA
*
Thanks for the heads up Baronic, and also your replies, old newspaper and nidz. Guess i would also be sticking with my stock ROM for now, and wait for official SIS update. I agree, dumping the rom is not easy (well, for me at least) blush.gif Time to play more with Advanced Config!!

I recently flashed to the Romeos v1.11 rom and the overall speed of my diamond is unbelievable. But be warned that you might brick your phone accidently. Basically the romeos rom is a stripped down version of original rom. Soft resetting wise, instead of waiting forever for the touchflo 3d to load, it is awesomely fast now. I'm loving it every minute. And also the battery life improve drastically. So it is two thumbs up for this rom. Glad that a Malaysian cooked it~! Malaysia Boleh~! And 1 last thing, each time i slide my keyboard out i do not experienced any lag at all. B4 flashing the rom ill experienced a long lag b4 i can eventually type on it
*
Hey, great feedback H11g. I really want to try it too, but too inexperienced to do it (first WM device) and also i am a little lost on how to dump/copy our stock rom, for warranty purposes, of course. Keep us up to date! Also, does typing on the keyboard still have the lag? i.e. currently, if i type fast on the keyboard, the onscreen words take some time to catch up to my key presses.

Hey, the romeos rom also get rid of the black box that suggests word to you when you type, actually i prefer it that way. it's uninterrupted typing for me. so far so good, no lag at all even typing in full speed, im really glad i switched to this rom but like i say, better know what you are doing. try reading and researching on xda-developers and sooner or later u'll get the hang of what ur doing.
*
Thanks to your heroic example, i decided to flash my ROM too, and after a heart-stopping moment where i thought i bricked my TP, i have managed to flash it to ROmeOs, back to stock (finally figured out how to dump the stock ROM), and now back to ROmeOS again biggrin.gif (Haven't tried reverting back to stock SPL yet though, but i think it should be do-able) Its really a good learning experience for me, and honestly, you just have to read thoroughly. It was also relatively straightforward as it involved only the SPL and ROM, not the radio ROM. So far, its pretty good, but i will use it for a couple of days more and see. One thing though..the in-call volume is loud now! I have to tone it down a bit so that my TP doesn't become a loudspeaker. For those complaining abt the low in-call volume, this maybe the solution (but do remember to read all instructions before flashing!)

Phone feels snappy and fast too, but i would think speed-wise, its comparable to a tweaked stock ROM setup.

Ahgabito,
I too went thru the same thing. Changed my battery last week, and they too just swapped the battery with a new boxed set (if its new la). Also from PDA Expert.

Stupid newb question, but I take it that if I were to flash my TP with ROMeOS2, I have to backup all of my contacts, etc beforehand? What about apps that were installed? Is it easy to restore the apps that I have installed, or do I have to reinstall each and every one again? Some of my apps were installed at the internal memory, and some at the microSD.
*
No worries Saigo. A lot of newbies here..like me! Yes, before flashing ur TP, do backup everything. As i didn't have much apps yet, i only backed up my tasks, contacts, SMS and appointments using PIM Backup. Everything will be gone on your TP. Programs too. But files such as documents, music files and photos stored on the memory card will be untouched. I think you would have to reinstall apps even if there are installed at the microSD cause the TP will be wiped cleaned!

Do let us know if u decide to take the plunge!

The backup and stuffs will probably take ages too. tongue.gif If Hang Tuah were to release new updates to his ROM, will you guys (those who have flashed to ROMeOS) re-flash again? Just curious.

Once you get bitten by the flash bug, u will keep flashing!! ( i mean, the TP la) laugh.gif

Ok guys this is going to be a long rant. Just got back from SiS Glenmarie inquiring abt the extended warranty for the TP. The lady at the counter INSISTED that all end-users must pay RM113 and that dealers only pay RM75(Well, when i went the first time, she strangely told me to get the RM75 ext. warranty, i had to go back to my dealer, which i did, and he had no clue to what i was talking abt, so this was my 2nd trip).

When i pointed out that other users i know in the forum paid only RM75, she asked for proof, saying in the forum, 'anyone can say anything'. Huh?? I was going like why would u guys brag/lie abt getting cheaper ext. warranty? Then she started going on a story abt how some ppl sell their product at x price and sell to others at y price, so thats why got diff. pricing. Come on!! I am not buying at a pasar malam stall, but at SiS Glenmarie!!

So i asked her to check her records, as i said maybe this could prove someone did buy the warranty for RM75. Her immediate reply, why should i check? Talk abt customer service. Thank god i wasn't Bruce Banner, if not i would have turned green, exploded from my clothes and started smashing the place up. And she goes like I am doing my job, my boss is not here etc.

So this is my point. For those of you who have the ext. warranty for RM75, could you please upload or PM me a scanned image of something. U can blank out personal details like name, add, tel no. etc. Strictly no obligation if you guys feel it would put you in a difficult position. But i really want to ram the evidence up her nostrils! I have already wasted time, petrol and toll going to Glenmarie and i want a resolution. So for you guys who can help me out, i would really appreciate it.

GERAM betul!! But still loving my TP la tongue.gif
