GARMIN MOBILE XT for WINDOWS MOBILE (RUNNING ON TOUCH PRO)

To be frank, I hate using Mapking, too fussy and lousy in detail. I've got the Garmin Mobile XT running just 2 days ago though, and it's working just fine! XD

One problem I encountered was the pain in the neck to install the *ahem*cwack*ahem* version. There's no proper guideline on how to install it online, and most guides I downloaded was in Italian. However, a super-deep search found me a nice guide, and that guide was super helpful.

One thing I'd like to note is how selfish the people at Malsingmaps are, they weren't willing to provide a MAP ID which is required to "unlock" the map for your non-genuine Garmin Mobile XT... SO I resorted to a nice site with a Malsing map (which is slightly outdated by a few months, but nevertheless working WONDERFUL).

If you still persist on getting Malsingmaps for your Garmin Mobile XT, you'd need to contribute about 2 POIs (point of interests e.g. places to get nice food) to malsingmaps portal.

PS: Note that it's "illegal" to request for help to install the Garmin Mobile XT nor crack it and get unlocked maps. (The malsingmaps people, selfishly, stressed on this, and left poor people, and I was one of the victims, to get it up and running).

Added on September 9, 2008, 2:26 pmHey, anyone here have problems with their battery life on their TP? Mine can only last a day or so (with extensive use of GPS, Camera and Music plus Calls and Games).

And I find this annoying. What if I go on a 3 day trip somewhere forgetting to bring me cable or charger along? Then the phone dies off after a day. Pity those serious business people working on their TPs. XD

Haha... Not really, my phone landed into a lotta girl's hands, and their first few comments were: "I want one!" and "This phone is damn sexy weii!".

What threw them off was the price. XP And also the weight plus bulkyness... So I told them that there's one half the size, half the weight but maybe twice the sexiness (ahem, the Touch Diamond or the upcoming Touch HD).

And they instantly agreed.

Hey, is the google map thingy similar to a GPS system, meaning it'll detect your location?

Wow, the new Garmin Mobile XT seems so much nicer to use now... Nice graphics and interface too...

Has anyone tried it yet? I just installed it recently...

Just wanna share my thoughts on the NetCF 3.5 update on the TP. Got the files from old newspaper (thanks again man), and installation was quite smooth.

The most obvious upgrade was the speed when it comes to opening applications, like DivX, OfficeMobile etc.

TF3D does get a LITTLE BIT faster, but still not noticable enough, browsing music through the Music tab's Library is still heck slow (could it be because of the 8GB SDHC???).

Overall, it's an upgrade worth going for. Try it people! ;-)

Hey, my TP's parts seem to be gettin' loose, such as the back cover, and the keyboard (which may seem to already lose its solid feel), any other owners face the same thing?

The back cover's a lil' loose that's all, I mean it's still quite hard to pry open, but it's significantly looser than when I first bought it... Bad luck I guess...

The sliding part loose as in a simple soft push to the side will rock the keyboard out by a lil'. XD

Anyone use a stereo bluetooth with TP? would like to get one.
*
Hey, I had that same question weeks ago. After some research (taking into consideration my budget as well), I decided to buy the pair of Sony Bluetooth Stereos. (Pic below)

Price: RM299 (from Sony Malaysia, look around LYN for a better deal *wink) rolleyes.gif

Pros: thumbup.gif
+Good sound quality, plays better than your stock TP headphones (w/o Audio Booster)
+Looks really cool, especially with the flashy blue/red light on the side
+Lightweight & foldable
+Can be used as handsfree for telephoning (not long term though, talk time only 11 hours max)
+Remote control function handy

Cons: shakehead.gif
-Sound quality may be sharp, noise cancellation poor, seriously lacking in bass
-Price not justified, no pouch nor accessories to go with it
-Only comes in one colour (black, which may be a pro as it'll go well with your TP, but I saw some white ones online)
-Lousy playback time (11hrs either talk/music time, standby up to 100hrs only)

Overall, there's not much "stereo bluetooth" headsets out here in the Malaysian market, another good ones will be the Motorola "somethings" and Clip II Stereo. wink.gif

Hey, I've been encountering this funny issue on my TP. Sometimes, when I slide out the keyboard but slide back in within 5 seconds, my screen sorta "screws up", meaning the whole screen goes static.

This also occurs when trying to connect to the PC for activesync. Anyone have this problem???

That's not good... I still can't figure out what the problem is. Most of the times (when that happens) I'm not even running any programs at all. XD

Added on October 16, 2008, 11:21 amHey, I'm having problems with SPB Screenshot thingy... It says take a screenshot with a hardware key, but I can't assign it. HELP!

Today went to SIS Glenmarie to extend my warranty, not so smooth already. They insisted that the RM75 is for the dealer price, so I use all the pity excuse lar... Drive very far lar, ppl getting for RM75, waste petrol lar...

Finally they give in... ended with a " You are going to be the LAST" with a damn frustrated look!

So for those who haven't do so.. better get it done..
*
That's kinda stupid for an excuse... Thought they'd give it "cheaper" as you head straight to their HQ, and dealers would charge more expensive (earning commision from SIS). Gratz you got it though... thumbup.gif

Just wondering, anyone here fancy Blackberry(s)? I've got this classmate of mine who seems like a jerk claiming how "HTC Sucks", "HTC Lags" and he's bragging all about how good a Blackberry, especially the Bold is (though he doesn't have one, XD)

Which reminds me, is there any way one can check the stockmarket, ie Bursa Malaysia via their TPs? I know them Blackberry(s) can do it, thanks to their BB Coverage by Maxis, why doesn't HTC have one like it?!

Much better, feel right at home especially with 50++ TP users here. Can't stand Blackberries, last time I had one at home, it lagged and overheated, literally, serious, like crap. XD

But I'm seriously interested in seeing how to get our TPs to view Stock Markets and the likes of them Blackberry services... Will do a search now... Hehe...

Ooooo... Lookie in Advanced Config Settings... HTC Audio Booster Bass, Treble and 3D surround settings...

*tweak *tweak (Very High), and voila... Super-nice sound quality from my TP... Hehe... Sadly, the volume level is already at it's max, and also the stock headphones are still not high qual enough... T.T

I still can't understand why our TPs doesn't come with a 3.5mm jack... Life would've been soooo much nicer with it... T.T

hi guys i have just check out the S2U2 app from xda forum. apparently it does have the slide to answer/ignore function. Any1 tried it on TP before? because i sometimes do unexpectedly/accidentally hit the answer/ignore button in my pocket when some1 is calling, which might be annoying, and i dont want to lock my device all the time as i think putting it on standby is enough.

any idea?
*
I personally wouldn't wanna have to press or slide anything on the screen just to answer/reject phone calls anymore, not after 20 over times of accidentally answering&rejecting calls with the onscreen key. Now I'm using that AnswerKey disabler thingy... Much much better... Look for it on the first page! icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi guys, I can't seem to find how to only enable my contacts from my phone contact. Now it's appearing double, is this normal? One copy from sim one from phone contact?

Any way that I can turn off my sim contact? For the phone contact also got 2, same number but one for call and one for sms?

Appreciate if someone can just give me a tip.. thanks!
*
Don't really get what you're trying to say... TP does show 2 numbers, sometimes 3 for call/sms/office... Got a screenshot pal? wink.gif

Well, when i insert my sim to my tp it will show all of my sim's contact right. Then i copy all the contacts to my tp. Then I would like to show all the contacts only in my tp and not my sim.

I can't seem to do that, so now i have double, one is from my sim, one is from my tp.

Can't find the setting for only show phone contact.
*
Oh, now I remember what I did... I copied all the numbers into the contacts list, and wiped out all the numbers in my SIM... Kinda stupid move, but hey it works... hmm.gif

For me I don't like loading numbers from my SIM card... I load numbers from my phone. I couldn't find the setting for "viewing outlook contacts only" too... unsure.gif

If you can live with seeing double contacts, go ahead. wink.gif
